So I was doing monthly health check on Bunjamin tonight (learned my lesson to not do it at night anymore
) But I noticed that he is missing a nail completely. I can feel a toe and from what I can see it looks clotted but I question whether its painful or not because he really didn’t want me to have that paw when it came time. I describe it as the dew claw even though I’m not sure bunnies have one, it’s in the similar spot of where a dog’s dew claw is. So, do I try to get him vet appointment right away or continue as usual? He’s still eating, pooping, playing (well he’s pouting right now) but he’s acting normal but I’ve read on here they can get infected, etc. I should soon have the money for his neuter so I was thinking about making pre-neuter appt anyways and I could always bring this up to the vet then. Is this okay to wait the two weeks until then?

I can’t think of any other way. I didn’t notice it last month during the check so it probably wasn’t there. My mom calls me in to check the dogs out bc of my attention to detail
I feel bad for not seeing it earlier though. It’s hard since buns don’t like to be held and mine doesn’t want you to touch his feet at all really. I’m tempted to still check for it to see if he snagged it on the carpet but that’s probably a lost cause bc we’ve been vacuuming so much bc of his shedding. When he’s doing zoomies we do hear a nail scratching? noise occasionally but he keeps going afterwards.

Well the way I view it is vets are good, but you should know your bunny better than the vet does. Maybe not the insides or how to fix them, but when it comes to physical appearance and behavior, you should always know more than your vet does when it comes to your personal bunny. It’s like when I took Nova into the vet. I knew her mouth was bugging her because she would sit and scrunch her face. I knew which side it was on because sometimes, about once a week, her right eye would be just the slightest bit weepy. Obviously I couldn’t fix it myself, I had to have the vet file them back to normal, but I was able to tell her what I thought the problem was before any physical exam was done, narrowing down the amount of time Nova had to be poked and prodded.
Plus in Bun’s case, it is probably like a broken toe for us. There really isn’t anything you can do about it except maybe pain meds (though if he is still eating he isn’t in that much pain). I guess they might give you antibiotics, but I think that might be rather excessive over-use of antibiotics… Just my personal opinion of course.
And if you do notice any swelling, pus, pain, etc, to the vet ASAP!
