Oh No!   June is missing a nail on his left front paw, it doesn’t seem fresh.  No blood, warmness, swelling, or anything.   Just no nail.   He came to me with super super long nails so I wouldn’t be suprised if he accidently ripped it out on his old wire bottom cage.  I am just so upset.  Poor little guy.   I am going to have the vet check that too.  Has this happened to anyone else’s bunnies?   Ack!  I am just soo upset.  That poor little guy.

As long as it’s clean and dry and you can see there’s no sign of infection, then it should be ok. Others have had this happen, don’t despair. It’s good the vet can check it out and see what may have been the problem. Is June walking on this paw ok?

Lolli got her nail caught on the carpet and actually broke her toe. It’s crooked now. She doesn’t like being petted or handled, so I didn’t even know about it until I picked her up for her bi-weekly check over. I still feel horrible about it, but she is fine. So things happened. Give him some extra lovin and treats. Like jerseygirl said, as long as it’s not looking infected, it should be fine and these things happen!

omigod I did’nt even think about a broken toe. poor guy. he is really sweet and didn’t seem to mind being petted or picked up. He seems to be walking ok on it. we did the pinch, pinch, clip technique on his nails and it worked like a charm. Do the nails ever grow back?

Hurrah, june is ok, the vet said the nail will most likely grow back and there is no break in his paw. He seems otherwise healthly and has his neuter scheduled in two weeks once his blood work comes back. He was a good little bunny though when I put him in his carry cage he flipped over and grabbed the top with his teeth and shook the cage like mad. Does that mean he loves me? He wants to stay at home and not go anywhere.

that’s happened to my bun too.. she is so crazy its no wonder she would catch one at some point and rip it off.. I saw it really soon after and there was a teensy amt of blood.. so I took care of it put on some antibact. stuff from the vet (we had already had it from a previous head injury!) and then checked it for the next few days.. she was fine her nails are super long now.. really need to get them done..

My rabbit lost a whole nail when he was younger. As long as the toe doesn’t get infected where the nail got pulled off, it’s nothing to worry about. Your bun will probably have a new nail growing within a month or so.
