It’s been a while! Sorry we’ve been all gone and such, busy times. : < I’m aware buns aren’t that active during the day, and prefer to play in the morning, or at night, but Ponyo has just become a totally different boy lately. I assumed it was just his hormones leveling out after his op a while back, but he barely runs around or plays at all. I’m lucky if I see binkies, or his old tearabouts. I don’t mind that he just wants to be petted and rubbed all the time, in fact it’s nice how much he loves being cuddled (If he’s got his feet firmly on something, he only likes pickup cuddles when he’s really in the mood), I’m just a bit worried about how SAD he seems lately. I AM going to get him a little girlfriend sometime, but right NOW it’s just not possible. I can’t help but feel that’s why he’s so EH at the moment, and it kills me. : < He won’t USE toys that I buy him, no matter how much I play with him with them, he just prefers toilet roll tubes, the occasional wicker mat and the odd plastic bottle top to throw around… Silly boy (this is when he actually DOES things… which is rare). I’ve been thinking about building him a new, more interesting home, with hidey rooms, a ramp and some jumpable layers, but looking at prices for materials means that’ll probably take me a little while as well. He doesn’t hate his house. It’s not very big (hence him often having free reign of my room)  but he likes it enough to sit in there all day. Perhaps, as he spends so much time in there, replacing it with something more engaging will force a bit of a perk up. Perhaps he’s bored more than lonely… Do you think it’s renovation time for Ponyo?

HUGE long post! Temporary bunny perk-ups while I work on a nicer, more bunny-tastic area for him? I’m sure he’s sick of my bedroom and his cardboard box rooms by now.

My rabbit loves her cardboard box and usually chews it up during the night when I’m sleeping. I like to switch boxes every month or so, so it is a different shape and size for her to attack.

Is your bunny free roam while you are at home? If so, if he doesn’t run around and binky as much as he used to, he may be just content. There are some bunnies that are used to having the space and relax. I’m not sure if yours flops a lot, but mine does. She just likes to let me know she is comfortable

Have you tried a willow basket full of hay? Bunnies enjoy eating the hay and throwing the basket around. Its super fun to watch also!!

Perhaps a vet exam to make sure everything is going well? Changes in behavior can be due to sickness-especially a sudden change.

But do check in at night and see what he’s doing. My bunnies look comatose during the day and around 1 am they are bopping around and partying If he doesn’t do anything late either-keep giving him the toys he likes-toilet paper rolls etc-rabbits like what they like

My first thought was the same as K&K – that he needs to be checked to rule out anything physical being wrong. I would see a vet just in case. Bunnies hide illness, and a change in behavior is often your only clue. If he is snuggly but not active, he may be coming to you for comfort, so I am a bit concerned.

If vet says all is AOK, then be sure he isn’t overweight and that’s making him lethargic. If not, then think about what he usually likes to do for play (run vs. dig, vs. jumping vs. hiding) so you can get him a new activity that stimulates his favorite. I don’t bother with changes that require heights for Sammy becauses she hates to jump, but a sheet on the floor is loads of fun for her burrowing, hiding taste.
