        Hey folks,

Our little lionhead “Miranda” passed away 2 days ago. She was just under 10 years old and was an awesome and beautiful little Bunny! She was the silliest little dude, always flopping and binkying around the place, begging for treats and generally being daft.

Anita (her mummy!) and I are absolutely gutted to have lost her but more importantly, she leaves behind her sister, Ariel who she’s been bonded to for almost 9 years. They had a really tight bond and spent nearly all of their time together. Ariel is noticeably and understandably depressed today and is very disinterested in anything. I also wonder if she’ll be feeling insecure being on her own for most of the day now. We’ve built what we consider a safe feeling environment for her but I guess she no longer has her best pal to look after her and reassure her. We’re trying our best, giving her lots of love and attention but it’s not the same as her best friend.

It’s early days, I know, but I’d really like to know what people’s opinions are on whether we should think about trying to find her a new buddy to bond with. I would do it in a heartbeat if I knew it was the right thing to do, but the thing that worries me about trying to find her a new bud is the stress it may put on her. Shes nearly 10 years old. Am I worrying unduly and should we still try to find her a friend?

For those of you who have lost Bunnies, I feel your pain. They hold a really special place in our hearts and the sadness I feel is immense.

        Binky free little dude!

I’d look to find her a new friend. Being alone is scary.

Oohhh. I remember these 2 girls.
            I’m sorry for your loss.

Did Miranda pass at home where Asriel was?

Some rabbits do just need a other companion right away. Then there are others that cope well. It’s a tricky situation with her being a senior bunny. It’s harder to find another senior bun to be a companion. It is still early days given the loss is so recent.
Do you have other pets she is accustomed to?

If you are open to adopting another, what about an already bonded pair? With the idea of becoming a trio with Ariel?

I’m so sorry for your loss!! Miranda sounds like a wonderful bunny.

I really feel for Ariel too. Our family is in the same situation as our 9-year-old, Teddy, lost his bonded partner, Athena, of over 9 years too just 2 weeks ago.

FWIW, Teddy was acting pretty upset the day of, and for a few days after, and then he seemed happier and ate better.

I’ve also heard about how some bereaved bunnies don’t want another friend, and are OK if they get enough time with their humans and any other pets, while others definitely do need another partner. I’ve never been through this before, though, so I’ll learn alongside you.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. And so sad to hear about Ariel. I wish I had some advice, and while I’ve sadly lost quite a few bunnies, I’ve never had a bonded pair.

In the meantime, just spend as much time as possible with her. Poor little girl.

I’m so so sorry. I would look into a new friend for Ariel. Being alone after that long would be so difficult!
