        Hello

Few weeks ago I bought my bunny a small mineral stone (banana flavour) and she destroyed it quickly…with her claws and teeth trying to turn it into fine powder and her front paws are still yellow (so is my carpet). Today I bought her another larger normal one which has 20% Calcium, 82.9% Raw Ash, 6.5% Water. And no its not a typo on my part and yes the one who designed the box or gave the specifications for it is an idiot.

My other bunny has the same mineral stone but uses it in moderation (maybe one or two small scrapes a day) but this one is almost treating it as a toy and destroying it very quickly. Now I wonder if its healthy to leave that with her? She is having fun with it and wearing down her nails but probably ingesting and inhaling too much of it as a result.

Mineral stones really aren’t necessary for buns. Pelleted food (in addition to veggies) gives them all of the nutrition they need. I would take it away from both of your bunnies.

Also, sometimes bunnies have issues with calcium that cause bladder stones, so I would be very careful of giving them extra calcium. Most people don’t feed alfalfa to adult buns for this exact reasons, so I imagine feeding them something that is 20% calcium is doing more harm than good.

There was no idiot involved in typing out the composition of your mineral block. A small percentage of water as is listed on the box may be present to make the mineral stone, to crystalize it together into a shape. Just because a thing looks dry, does not mean it contains no water. Think of hay, it is dry as a bone and yes it contains moisture (water).
–Rabbits do not need mineral stones. Pet bunnies should not consume calcium in excess.

Thank you for the answers and I will take it away. Petzy the reason why I said what I said is because the composition listed adds up to 109.4% and another 0.5% if you account for the other things i didn’t mention.

I never did this math. Sorry I misunderstood you.
