I noticed after giving Mimzy his dose of Trimeth this morning, in a few minutes he started pulling on his dewlap pretty hard. I was wondering if maybe he was itching due to some allergy to the medicine, or could it just have been a coincidence?

He was yanking that sucker pretty hard. He’s finished his molt. I don’t usually see him pull on his neck fur like that. Should I be concerned?

Could you have gotten some of the med on there or he’s dribbled some? If it is syrupy, it’d take a bit of cleaning – perhaps he was grooming it out.

My rabbits always do this after I medicate them. I think partly as a stress reaction. Also as Jerseygirl says it could be some dribbled on the dewlap too.

I bet some meds got down there on the dewlap. That happened to Grace all the time when she was on Baytril, and she would groom her dewlap very angrily because she was so mad that I gave her medicine. After awhile she got used to the meds though, and it was much easier to medicate her and she got less on her dewlap. I wouldn’t worry too much about it – I think Mimzy just wants to make sure that your mind is occupied with him

Well I’m usually very careful about not letting the meds get anywhere but in his mouth. And I don’t have to fight with him on this one like I did the last round. He does seem to like the taste.
lolz…maybe he’s making sure he gets every drop! ^_^

I do wipe his face and neck area off if we do happen to spill any. I had to do that with the last antibiotic, it was bright pink and VERY obvious when I missed his mouth. 0_o

hmmm…that is curious. I know that Jack will pull on his dewlap when I am carrying him (stress reaction to escape), and Rucy would do that when she would get water on her dewlap, but you are saying Mimz isn’t stressed and there isn’t anything that dripped down that he would want to get to. I’m stumped.
