Mimzy getting spayed on thursday – recovery question!

Mimzy is getting spayed this thursday & I’ve actually just been reading everyone else’s posts lately about their bunnies going to be spayed & just taking notes. So my question is, I know you’re supposed to give her blankets so she can get cozy, but how many blankets should I put? Just enough to make a small bed?

I’m going to block off her top levels to her condo until she’s recovered, and I have a cat bed for her that I will put in there as well as a few blankets I’m thinking? Problem is, it gets pretty warm in my room. I’m constantly making sure she doesn’t get too warm. I have a thermometer that hangs on my wall & is usually at 80 more than half the time and occasionally goes down only by 1-2 degrees.

Side note…. I know that is quite warm for a bunny but I do have an oscillating fan, cold water, frozen water bottles, laminate flooring & a ceramic tile. I sometimes also dampen her ears a little if they feel too warm, but I think she’s gotten used to it quite a bit so they usually aren’t very warm at all.

I could probably put her in another room of the house during this time, I’m thinking either the bathroom or my brother’s room. They are both cooler than my room, would moving her to a cooler place of the house be more ideal for her recovery? (I’m just thinking this so that she can snuggle with blankets without getting too hot?) Should I still give her a frozen water bottle?

Also, I know it takes longer for females to recover so I shouldn’t expect her to eat right away. If she doesn’t start eating within the first day, is it ok to try a couple treats to entice her to eat? She loves craisins & mango but I’m not sure if these would be suitable to get her to eat? (I wouldn’t feed her a lot, only a few).

First of all…megavibes for Mimzy for a gentle and successful surgery day.
And you’re the only other person I know besides myself who can’t seem to get the bunnyroom temperature to drop below 80! My three lived in that kind of heat for years without too much difficulty, however the only one ever to get speutered in my care was my Mimzy…the boys definitely have it easier!
You don’t want her overheated but you also don’t want her chilled. I think I’ve read that a dropped temp is actually more dangerous because it contributes to shock.
It sounds like you’ve got everything well in hand for her aftercare. I’ll allow others more experienced in these matters to guide you properly.

I would just put in a few blankets so she has nice, thick padding. If she’s not used to blankets, make sure she doesn’t chew on them.

I think it’s okay to use a small treat to entice her to eat. Banana usually works for mine. Also, you can try fragrant, fresh herbs like mint, cilantro and parsley. Those are good at stimulating appetite.

Thank you both! I have blankets in her cage but she hardly uses them, I guess because its too warm :/

I’m going to make her a bed anyway just in case.

LPT – I was freaking out yesterday because it went to about 83 in my room & I could tell she could feel it too. I grabbed all the ice packs & put them around where she was laying xD
