It’s been a while since I posted on here. On Christmas Eve I lost my sweet Cheeko. He told me it was time, and I’m thankful the vet was open, he passed away peacefully in my arms.

I brought him home for Abby to see and she spent some time with his body, grooming and sniffing him, then the next 2 days she seemed great. She was eating all her food, binkying everywhere, like a new bunny.

Then about 2 weeks ago her poop started changing. It almost looks like a miniature version of cow poop. It’s very soft, un-formed, flat piles of smelly brown poop. Along with this, she starting leaking urine. She is still eating her veggies (romaine lettuce (grown in Yuma which is apparently safe), parsley, cilantro) and eating hay, but she won’t touch her pellets.

I took her to the vet who did bloodwork and xrays and he said her kidney function is great, her white count isn’t elevated, but she is anemic. The xrays showed her colon full of un-formed poop, and he speculated that the urine incontinence is because she’s straining so hard to push it out.

He sent us home with an antibiotic and a digestive enzyme powder to go on her veggies, but she’s now on day 6 of 10 with zero improvements. She’s actually started peeing more outside of the litter box. The vet thinks the anemia could be caused by an internal bleed, but it’s not in her colon since there’s no blood in her poop, so the next step would be to do an ultrasound to see if she’s bleeding somewhere else.

My question is, if she is bleeding internally, would that explain her poop problem? He said she has mega- colon and from what I’ve read, a symptom of that is also anemia. Does anyone have any experience with this? She’ll be 10 years old in March.

Also, I read that mega-colon is more prevalent in younger rabbits as well as the English spot breeds. Abby is 100% white, but not albino. How has she gone almost 10 years without any incidents like this before? I wish I knew how to fix her because other than this, she’s a pretty healthy girl.
