Yes I know, extremely wierd timing for me to be getting a new bunny. I went to the pet store for hay and saw her alone. There was her and a black one at the pet store, they never had any hay, junk pellets, small glass cage etc. I had always sort of tried to avoid them, but that didnt usually work lol. Well I went and she was alone, her bunny friend gone. Had to cuddle her of course, she looked sad and so was I. I asked what her sex was, they said girl. Wasnt looking for a price but I saw it, and had the money. Impulse won and I walked out of the pet store with two bags of hay (one timothy for Hammer and one alfalfa for guess who) and my new bunny friend. They think she is about 5 months old, but im taking her to the vet this weekend hopefully for a check up. She is so cute!! And a crazy binkier already. Not so great with a litter box though. Hammer seems to be kind of indifferent now, he did act a little agressive the very first time he saw her but he just watches her now. No thumping from him so im impressed. She however thumps a lot for no apparent reason, so she has a little Rose in her. And I dont know what you guys may think, but my friends laughed that i was replacing Rose so quickly. Im in no way replacing Rose, I miss her just as much as I did when she actually passed. It was impulse (though no regrets), I needed the cuddles and it looked like she needed me too. So I hope you guys dont think im replacing Rose, and moving on to quick, I havent forgotten Rose nor have I fully recovered. No name yet, and no ideas either. So if you instantly think of a name when you see her feel free to help out with that!![]()
Please excuse the terrible pics, she doesnt hold still at all. I will try to get some better ones tonight.

She looks soft and fluffy – I can see why you think she needed a hug. I’m glad she has a new good home.
For what it’s worth: I think you did a great thing bringing that baby home! You needed her more than she needed you! DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP for giving this baby a loving home!
I think that when one of my babies passes I will be the same way as you…go get another one….you arent replacing but giving your love to another bun who needs it. So many buns out there that need homes that just dont have them.
She is gorgeous! I am sure a name will come.
She is so cute! You’re not wrong for getting her and I’m sure she is glad to be out of there!
Awww – what a little sweetie! She’s just a grey version of my Noelle, so I’m biased to find her extra adorable.
I know you aren’t replacing Rose, just spreading the love. I think it’s great that you found each other.
Right away I thought soot when I saw her, or charcoal, but those aren’t very cute names for her.
I’ve never had to pick names cuz I just keep the shelter assigned ones, so I’m not real good at this.
Congrats on the addition!
Oooh – Smudge! Cuz you know how soot and charcoal tend to smudge all over you? That’s my new official name suggestion. I’m personally a big fan, and Wally and Noelle agree. So that’s 3 votes so far. ![]()
It sounds like she was meant to be your bunny- I think things happen and we choose or get chosen by our pets for a reason. Everyone has their own grieving times and no one can fault you for getting another friend for Hammer (and yourself). I got a new puppy both times I found out our first 2 dogs had cancer (9 months apart)- it was the right decision for me to have the new puppy and cancer dog at the same time- but others would feel differently.
And she is a lop! How cute. What color is she? She looks steel grey from the photos. Very pretty.
She is definetly irresistible!!
I think Rose would be glad to know that one less bun will suffer from ignorance.
She makes me think of a soft and misty sunrise so I suggest “Dawn”
For some reason, I immediately thought of Chloe ![]()
She is a doll and I agree, you saved each other.
Congrats on your new pretty girl!
Oh she’s gorgeous!! Congratulations!
I’m so glad there is always someone getting a new bunny on this forum…I feel like I’m living vicariously through all the proud new owners….since there is no way I can responsibly allow myself to get another one! Congratulations, she looks beautiful. I know what its like seeing a bunny at a pet store and not being able to refuse. Don’t feel bad about replacing Rose. I’m sure that wherever she is she is happy that you are able to give another deserving bunny a home!
she reminds me of my boyfriend’s cat Roxy! Her coloring is beautiful
Oh she’s adorable! How about picking something that goes along with Rose, like another flower like Lily, or a plant like Fern?
– Annette
I thought of something along that line of though too Annette. I like Lily, but still like Smudge better. I guess if I ever get a grey bunny, we know what it’ll be called!
Steel grey, hm? How about Magnolia? (continuing with the flower name theme -or as in Steel Magnolias- and I’ll bet if she’s thumping already she’s tough as steel!)
You could always call her Maggie or Mags for short.
Otherwise I was thinking of the Artful “Dodger” from Oliver Twist (massive binkies off the bat and those little waifs all had soot on them that made their skin look grey)…But that’s silly. >.<
Um…I don’t know if you remember this about me, but I’m wild about loppies. You’re lucky I didn’t see her first! ^_^
I know it’s tough to take this on and what happened with Rose too, but God puts us in some odd places and always for a reason. I think Rose sent you to her and it was meant to be. *nods*
Enjoy your new baby and yes, more piccies please! ^_^ *jumps up and down*
Still working on names. I did have a hamster named smudge, I know someone named Dawn, and my best friends dogs name is Maggie. Lol so those are out. I like the flower names idea. Maybe Lily, but thats pretty common and I babysit for a Lily. I like Clover. I like Lucy, im obsessive about ‘I Love Lucy’, my favorite show. I really like Hazel too. Hazel is a tree, so kind of going along with the flower/plant theme. Im thinking for now she is baby bunny, and ill name her when it clicks.
Thistle popped to mind. She’s very cuddly. I’m sure Rose would approve of you sharing what you learned with her.
I could see her being a Lucy. Too bad about Smudge though… hehe. Oh well, I’ll log that one away for my own future use. I think a 3rd bunny is in my medium-term future.
Maybe wait until after the vet visit before getting too set on a name, in case the little miss turns out to be a little fella. 😉
O my BunnyMuffin, dont say such a thing lol. I really really hope she is a she and not a he, haha. Bonding a he to a he would be a nightmare.
I like Thistle!! I keep saying it wrong though ; )
Well I officially take it back and bite my tongue and send “she” vibes to the little miss! However, if it makes you feel better, I’ve heard bonding 2 females is the most difficult. At least we know that won’t be an issue. 🙂
Liz, personally I think this is a good move for you. I actually thought about suggesting another bunny to help Hammer but felt it was too soon. Bunnies just happen though – lol. So congratulations on the new baby from me. A lop for a change! My first thoughts on names were Charlotte, which I came to from reading Charcoal. Can easily be changed to Charlie if need be ;o) Now though, I’m really liking Lucy. Simple and sweet. And it means Light and she is bringing in some light for you at this time. Helping to navigate the darkness that comes with grief. So Lucy has my vote. What ever you name her, may she bring you (and Hammer) much joy!
OH! I just discovered the Hibiscus flower is also called the Rose of Sharon or Rosemallow AND there’s a variety called Lucy!![]()
Awe! She’s beautiful! Each person is different in the way they heal, and if you are ready to give love, then by all means! That’s healing too.
She’s gorgeous and sounds like she’s very happy to have you. Congrats!!
And you are not ‘replacing’ Rose. We’d have kept our bridge bunnies if we could! You simply have the room in your home and heart to help another bunny in need, and you did. Rose couldnt’ be replaced and she isn’t. *hugs* I’m sure she’s happy you are helping another bunny.
I love the name Charlotte. Also, Daffodil… Daisy…
I think you did what you had to do Liz. Some people need to get another right away, to help fill the void. Others aren’t ready for another for months…
She’s very cute, congrats!
She’s adorable. Congrats.
I probably would have done the exact same thing.
When I saw her I thought the name Delta would be cute,
but if you like flowers *searches net* how about..
Lilac, Zinnia, Calla (short for Calla lily),Dahlia,Blossom,Lotus,Azalea.
Hope those help.
My daughter thought Cinder might be a good name…could be short for Cinderella, you know. ^_^
Or perhaps Iris? I know she’s not a purple bunny, but when the light hits that beautiful grey fur just right, she has a violet sheen to her. ![]()
Congrats on your new bunny. She is beautiful and you can still love and remember Rose just as well with a new bunny in your home. Maybe you could have a nice picture of her and keep it on the wall near your rabbits so she will always be there. I find that helped with my two bridge bunnies. I still see their sweet little faces every day in my rabbit room.
I like the flower/tree name idea too. Some suggestions: Rowan (I LOVE this name), Violet, Lilac, Tulip (I think it’s cute for a spring baby bunny),
