I’ve wanted an English Lop for years, and now I finally have one! I’m so excited! This is Bucky, the Winter Sol- um, er, Rabbit.
He’s actually kind of a rescue – I raise farm birds and game fowl, and in pursuit for some guineas I ran across this boy, who was kept in a very tiny wire cage. The wires on the cage were causing his ears to tear all along the edges (I don’t think you can see it too much in the pics, but it’s very upsetting) where they dragged along the metal. The owner recognized this, and was happy to see me take him. Upon closer inspection, he’s also rather skinny, but the previous owners mentioned (when I inquired about the lack of any kind of food in the cage) that their goats kept eating it. Otherwise he seems healthy, and has a great disposition – he loves to have his ears stroked, and has already torn into his hay. He seems curious and sweet so far, and I’m so happy to have found him!
The previous owners said that he’s almost a year old (they said maybe 10 or 11 months), and he’s got a gorgeous coat! In direct light it looks like a mix of a orangey-brown and blackish-brown, but in soft light it looks almost pure black. What color would you call this?
Also, yes, I know he needs a bigger cage than he’s in -but right now he seems to like the security (plus, it’s bigger than the previous one he was in), and I’m already making plans to build a larger one this weekend. I’m open to suggestions, by the way, if anyone knows a good build for e-lops. And as I’ve never had one of this breed before (or a true house rabbit before) I’d love some tips – I’m more than happy to learn from someone else’s experience!
