Medusa has moved into my bed and can’t get her to stop marking

Well Medusa has finally moved into my bed. She has been spending more and more time sleeping on it. She never used to mark in it, as I think she understood it was mine, but now she’s claiming it for herself! I love it when she sleeps on it, but I don’t like the poop marking. How do I get her to stop the poop marking w/o banishing her from my bed (because I like her on it). And I don’t want to spray perfume I hate it. I want her to still sleep on it, just not poop!

does she do something like raise her but before she does it? wanna try shooting her with a little water pistol and then take her to the litter box so she knows or maybe a litterbox under the bed or beside it? ionno i wish i can put mine on my bed. they arnt quite litterbox trained yet though and not spaded either. she likes to go under it though. – -“

Hi! Hmm, I am not really sure what to do, BUT that is super cute. I’ve been trying to get my buns just to sit on the couch with me, and they are still a bit skittish about it.  I think they must have been trained NOT to get on couches, because if they do go sit on it, and I come over they kinda get scared and run away. Do you have a mini litter box you could put on the bed? and then put the poops in there for awhile, and maybe (like litter training) she’ll get the idea that is where the poops go?

oh boy oh boy….i can’t have litter boxes or poop in my bed. yucko! the thing is she knows her (pile) poops go in the litter box but she is deliberately marking on the bed so its not like she doesn’t know where poops go.

bad medusa!! hmmmm dont give her treats till she gets off the bed to poo? water gun, pick her up imediately after she poos and bring her to her pan and dont let her pove from there for a while like a “time out”?

Another member, Anistark said she either read this or did this – can’t remember.     Take a cloth and rub it all over the animal and then take that same cloth and rub it all over the area that you don’t want marking to occur.  The idea of this is to put the scent down already of the animal, so that when the animal goes there and smells his/her own scent already there, then the need to mark will be less. 

I have NO idea if this actually works as I have never put it to the test!  And since bunnies really like to mark over and over to make sure they’ve made their point, you may have to do alot of rubbing to make it  work. 

The other thing you could try is to offer affection etc, until the very moment she leaves a pill, and then put her down and not allow her up for 10 minutes.   Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat….etc.etc.etc, until she gets it.   It may take weeks of being diligent.

Ya I have been making her get off the bed when I see her drop them. But she acts seemingly unaware that she is doing it. She’ll just be like walking and she’ll drop one. GROSS! She’s been spending at least half the nights on my bed and I wake up to find a few poopies there in the morning….and sometimes they get wedged btw the wall & bed GROSS!

mine seems to do that alot too but i thought it is because she is not spaded which can possibly a territorial issue. did u try what binky bunny said with the rubbing? if you are not too allergic to her hair you can try brushing her while she is on your bed so her stray fur drops on the bed and then you have her hair and sent on your bed. or give her a big litter box with hay right next to your bed. and when she leaves one put her in a time out in it. =P i am so mean, all ive been doing is suggesting things to punish medusa. =( sorry

No I actually try and get all her hair and dander off my bed with a lint brush because my boyfriend is allergic and I think so am I. I have been sneezing more since she’s been spending the nights on my bed. But I like it when she sleeps on my bed so I don’t want to get her off. And yes, I’m on allergy medicine. She is a chronic poop marker. Dunno if she’ll ever stop.

Her litter box is just below my bed and she always goes when she has to “poop” a big pile or pee. But the marking is when she purposely drops a few here and there.

wow after the spaying and still the marking…. hope mine still dont. its ok, my bf is allergic too and i would like my bun to sleep in bed with me too but i am too scared of poos and squishing her. how do you not do that? hopefully she gets better and stops. probably just a matter of time.

Sounds like she’s just marking to be part of the group. Rabbits mark to show territory and/or dominance.  That really is a hard one because it doesn’t sound like she’s a very dominant bunny (but is she?)   Rabbits also mark a new territory to let each other know who is part of the group. 

Do you pet her while she’s on the bed alot?  It’s good if you do as that will make her feel comfortable, but you may have to be persistent on chasing her off when she does her territorial poos, so  you can claim it as the TOP bunny.   She can still be on there, but it should still be considered YOURS not an area for everyone to claim.  

Bunnies just mark as second nature, so she may not be aware right off, but if you make sure to chase her off each and everytime, she may begin to realize.  But this is certainly not something that is going be learned overnight or even a few days.

With me, she is top bunny, but with other rabbits she doesn’t care. I pet her all the time when she’s on my bed. Last night she spent the whole night, and I found 2 poops. One wedged btw the bed and wall, and another IN MY SHEETS!!!! That sneaky girl must have crawled under and left one for me!

all i know is that, he is a dwarf holland lop..
but his fur is smooth and silky thats fer sure….

Hi Omi!

Have you had your bunny neutered? He may be doing his territorial "spraying" which would stop eventually after he is neutered.  A great way to remove the pee marks and scent is to use vinegar, that is how I get the marks out of the carpet.  Is there a consistent area where your bunny marks?  If so, I know its tough to do on a couch, but you could put a litter box there, just for when your bun is not supervised, then he will go in the box instead.  Also, to work on training, as soon as you see him lift his tail to pee, make sure to chase him away from that spot!
