Hi, I’m new to this forum. My bunny contracted E. Cuniculi on New Years Eve and I was faced with the option of euthanasia or a one month treatment. Originally, I decided on euthanasia because I didn’t want him to suffer, but then I thought it would be wrong for me to give up so easily since he’s still hopping about fine and eating and drinking, so I’ve ordered some Panacur. (If he doesn’t improve, I will have to euthanise of course) After doing some research, I’ve seen people also giving metacam alongside Panacur for pain relief, however, I cannot get it since I was not given a vet prescription so instead ordered some pain relief medication for pets suffering joint inflammation. On the bottle, it said do not give to pets with duodenal ulcers. Just wondering, does anyone have any advice – it still safe for me to administer it to my bunny or not? He’s still eating and everything, but I don’t want to risk it if he does have stomach or gastric ulcers.

          Hi Rubino

im curious, what symptoms is your rabbit displaying?

I’m relieved to read your rabbit is    still eating. I hope the panacur arrives so and you can start administering it. Personally, I would just start with that and not give unprescribed anti-inflammatory meds.

If you’re not seeing an improvement during the course of panacur & your rabbits symptoms are worsening, then  I would ask a vet if introducing other meds is advised.

Some pain meds (even metacam) can suppress the appetite & cause ulcers and a preventative needs be given in advance. Often rabbits were prescribed Zantac for this but it has been on recall for over a year now.

Certainly, anti inflammatory med may help in treatment or ec but it depends on how severe the symptoms are.

ETA: how old is your rabbit? Has he suffered from any other health issues before?
