(For new members: On the first day of a new month it’s supposedly good luck to say “white rabbit” three times. In the BB chat-thread, we say the names of white or partly white rabbits, and we rarely limit us to three. Feel free to join in!)

<3
Alright start to the month, work was ok, bunnies are cute and I’m definitely making taming progress with Dory
While she was out today I touched her beak on two separate occasions while she was eating a treat and the first time I managed to pet her feathers just above her beak too
Then she flew down to my desk right by my laptop and completely ignored my hands as I typed, which is amazing since once she got close to hands she would go straight for them
I wish I had film of how she used to be vs our progress now, but you never know when you’re going to get a moment and she often acts funny if I put the camera on her.
Apollo, Chewie, Henry’s tum, Cali and Bindibindibindi.
Bank hol today – slept way over into the morning….
Neighbours were out at 6 this morning and they are incapable of whispering in the road out front (my pavements are really narrow)…. grrr
Just listening for the first time to recently purchased Ed Sheeran’s “divide” – Genius! – of course.
There is a photo of him with his top off. I knew he had a tattoo ‘sleeve’ but didn’t realise his torso is 100% covered too !!
Cali threw up *again* on my bed – it happens every 2 nights or so at 4am ish…
I wake up just in time to hear the stomach wave noises (if you’ve got a cat, you know what I mean) and put something under her face to ‘catch’ it’ – poor thing.
I dont know what it could be…. should I be worried?
Chewie, Bindi, Sterling, and Chewie’s tum.![]()
I’m having a little clear out and have about 20 VHS tapes (original films, not VHS which I’ve recorded on a hundred times) to throw out – any ideas ?
No-one wants them now. Not even charity shops. ![]()
Maybe some of those old VHS are collectable now?
Regarding Cali, maybe it’s something in her diet. I’m not sure what you’re feeding her, maybe it’s amazing food. But cats are often allergic to grains etc in commercial cat food. Growing up, my brother’s cat would always throw up if we bought a flavour that had peas in it. Do you alternate between different flavours? Do you feed dry and wet? Or just one or the other? And yes, I know that sound, it’s awful ![]()
Poppy, Lancelot, Guin
I always miss this… you just wait til summer
Chewie and all his white(ish) BB friends! ![]()
This might qualify as tmi but does anyone go through stages where certain bras become so damn uncomfortable? For no reason whatsoever? I haven’t increased/decreased weight or anything and the bra I’m wearing is driving me crazy :-/
Leopold’s tummy, Wooly’s blaze, Chewie, Buttercup, Bindi, Sterling…
Sarah -water retention?
Az. I agree it cooould be the food, but i give their daily amount in 4 servings and its only at night she throws up
(atleast i havent found any other hidey place she might do it…. yet!!!)
I feed them supposedly high quality dryfood bought from the vet. Nothing wet.
I’m thinking it may have something to do with the furball she bought up a few months back….?
But they do now groom each other at night on my bed (soooo cute, even if the slurping does wake me up).
Maybe she’s allergic to Jess’s fur….. ![]()
Vienna – Oreo just had some mysterious food purging issues, and it turns out it wasn’t her food…it was because she was constipated
. Her vet said that constipation can cause nausea. Who knew!
Who knew indeed – but I can categorically confirm that she is NOT constipated !!! I have the proof !!

Hello, Darling Buds!
I’m naming white cartoon/animated rabbits this time. : )
Miffy!
Ruby & Max
Buster Baxter (From Arthur)
Rabbids
Snowball
Happy Bunny (occasionally white)
Had a dream Licorice had coccidiosis, I got a new brown Lionhead who was in the same room, and that Winter was non existent. Weirdest dream ever. ![]()
Cali was sick again kast night. Mostly yellow mucus, but a bit of left over dryfood (sorry…) and also cat grass that they have access to in a pot.
I know cats and dogs eat grass to help them ‘purge’.
I wonder if the grass is making her sick too. Or is that a viscious circle situation..? ![]()
Yes it could be the grass, could also be the dry food. Dry food is not really ideal for cats, sometimes the vet ones aren’t actually that great either. Definitely find one that is grain free if your current one isn’t, and try to avoid veggies in it too. The grain free foods can be pricey, but I suspect the vet one isn’t cheap anyway. Try it for a few days to see if there’s any change. Otherwise if you can, switch to a grain free wet food, much better all round.
Really don’t want to go to work today. Yesterday was such a long and exhausting day, today is going to be much the same I would think.
I’m leaving work in an hour
.
I don’t know enough forum rabbits to do the white rabbit thing yet
but happy May everyone!
Thor made my day today, she flopped against me for the first time! First buddy snuggles! She usually likes petting but only at about a foot away from a human. Best way to turn a bad day around ![]()
Congrats! Bun snuggles definitely make any day better.
We had some crazy weather. For a minute there, I thought maybe it was winter again. It was winter again just west of here, where some people got 6-7 inches of SNOW.
We just got 2 inches of rain. Much warmer today, almost 70 for the high. I’m ready for spring to be here! Well, maybe not. I have SO much stuff I have to get done at work in the coming months. Exciting stuff, but it’s a lot for one person.
Oh my, well at least it was something treatable. Unlike, you know, Wooly’s foot falling off. o_O
Ok. Thought for the day. When a cat is in process of throwing up, do not, I repeat, do NOT pick up to move to better place to throw up… eeeeuuuwwwwwwww. (Witches of Eastwick ring any bells……)
![]()
Oh my gosh, yes. That happened to us once when I was a kid, worst mistake you can ever make. Haha!
Placed an order for some bunny and bird toys a couple days ago, I’m really hoping that it comes tomorrow so that it’s here in time for Dory’s gotcha day on friday ![]()
Tony is so snuggly post-neutering. I feel like I’ve traumatised him.
Vienna: I agree with Azerane, try to find a grain free food, wet if possible. I could recommend a good brand that is insanely cheap for being grain free, but since you’re not in the US that wouldn’t help.
I would get rid of the cat grass too. It’s helpful if they need to get rid of a hair ball or something, but lots of cats just eat it whenever, even if they don’t need it.
I don’t know if Zooplus has a French branch, but it does have a U.K. branch. It’s an online pet store that has lots of pet food at reasonable prices, I get most of my stuff for Bam from them. Purizon makes grain free cat food, Acana too but it’s pricier because it’s Canadian.

Thought this was funny – Peanut was munching on some hay in his litter box and my boyfriend started laughing at Family Guy on the TV, we looked over to Peanut and he was giving him the death Glare, then he thumped ![]()

Sounds grewat BM! It reminds me of a member (mocha200) who used to be active here. She had a loft bed so her rabbit pair had the rest of the room. She is 101rabbits on youtube. She has a different set up now as her family built a new home.

I keep meaning to ask…. does anyone have any news from Moxie??![]()
I’ve been wondering about Mox also. I hope she comes back on.
I’ve been wondering too. Where’s Moxie? =/
Probably taking over the world ![]()
Q8, reasonable theory! I’ve been wondering about Moxie too.
@Tony’s Mum: please don’t feel bad. You did the very best for him, a hormonal rabbit is constantly frustrated. He’ll feel a bit under the weather so soon after the operation, but he’ll feel better soon. It is very good to hear that he seeks comfort with you, this means your bond is strong. Rabbits mostly tend to hide when they feel unwell, because it makes them easier prey. The fact that he’s comfortable enough to show his weakness to you is the biggest compliment you can get from a bun.
Prepare for more cuddles though, because neutered rabbits tend to become calmer, a bit lazier and a lot more cuddly. Do watch the pounds though, because increased appetite is also common. If he’s extremely hungry, try to give him more hay and low-calorie veggies and keep the pellets to the daily recommended amount.
Poor Bas, he’s had his wisdom teeth and a molar removed earlier this morning. Despite all the ice-packs I could find, he’s starting to look a bit like a lop-sided hamster. Luckily I still have some chicken soup in the fridge. In 6 weeks they’ll do the other half, and then he’ll be nearly done with his complete dental renovation. So happy and proud he decided to go to the dentist again ![]()
Ouch! Salamat (means ‘get well soon in Arabic) ![]()
because neutered rabbits tend to become calmer, a bit lazier and a lot more cuddly.
Henry!!! Come here and read what Auntie Ellie has written…….!!!!!!
I KNOW!!! Hilarious isn’t she!??!?
![]()
Smartarse. ![]()
Yes Henry is a smartypants – he can read !!!
![]()
If you can get him to sit still long enough, that is =D
![]()
Lol yes Ellie I noticed the increased appetite already! He’s even greedier than before… Luckily he’s been content with munching hay all day. I am loving the extra snuggles though, and he’s been grooming my legs a lot too.
jersey i watch 101rabbits all the time wow
Stormy Rabbits on YouTube also has a loft bed that has her bunnies’ condo underneath
Me, well… I just lose half my lounge room
We weren’t using it anyway
Friday at last ![]()
Talking of new bunny homes we are planning to build a new cage for m&m soon
A dog crate attached to a dog playpen. So excited ![]()
I’ve seen some of 101rabbits videos too, they’re really good & informative!
I’m replacing a carpet so I’ll be using the old carpet for Chom. (It has very short fibers so he can’t chew it up.)
Azerane- lucky!! It’s still Thursday here ![]()
I think this is the bed I’m getting (it comes tomorrow) ![]()
![]()

I got the mattress today
Many new faces, but also some familiar ones.
Long time no see! How is everyone? I need all the updates!
All’s good over here. Moxie will be 4 years old this August and The ‘puppies’ just turned 2 recently
I’ve missed you all! <3
Moxie!!! Where have you been? I see Moxie and puppies… what about the chickens?
Leopold and Wooly are more or less the same. Leopold has already turned 7 and Wooly will turn 7 in June.
Leopold has decided that digging in the litter box is fun, so we’re working on that. And, of course, Wooly is still my special needs boy. The funny thing is my boss keeps asking about him. I guess I take too much time off of work to take him to the vet???
You are going to love some of the “new faces” around here. Lot’s of fun is being had here in the chat!
Yay! Moxie’s back! How did the covert ops go?
Nothing terribly new with us. Chewie’s starting another moult (I know… WHAAAT??!) – thank the gods it’s Friday because I’m ready to scream at work – and I’m getting a new car again in a few weeks. Grey and blah outside.
What have you been up to?
MOXIE !!!!!
LBJ forgot to tell you how Wooly’s foot fell off.
![]()
Oh yes, that darn foot, it just fell right off I tell you!
MOXIE ![]()
![]()
![]()
Hope all is is well with you and yours!
BlueMoon, that’s a great bed! So practical for the bun-owner! (And for the non-bun-owner too, of course.)
Not funny! I had bad dreams about poor Wooly’s foot ![]()
Good to see you Moxie
Bought another bed for Apollo and Luna today, yes ANOTHER one
Was at Bunnings and they had super soft plush pet mats for only 15 bucks so I just had to get one for the bunnies. They’ve tried it and seem to like it
Today is Dory’s 1st Gotcha Day, I’ve been trying to put together a video for it. Do you have any idea how hard it is to condense 1 year of footage into about 5 minutes?! lol.
Nope. Because I refuse to try
Happy Gotcha Day, Dory ![]()
Time flies
Happy Gotcha Day, Dory ![]()
Happy gotcha day, Dory!!!
Time certainly does fly! If she could, I’m sure she would say thank you, either that or bite your nose ![]()
Here I am, 3:10 in the morning with a very sick Breintje :'( Oh my, I’m happy of my late-night habits, else I would have missed it completely… Bas turned in early tonight, and I stayed up so he could read in bed alone (his ultimate relaxing moment). While I was playing Skyrim, I heard Breintje constantly moving positions in his box. Then he sat next to me, pooped some tiny pellets on the floor and went back in his box to lay flat on his belly. He’s refusing all food, even his favourite treats. Turned his face away from a raisin
He was normal and active today, and ate his pellets at 19:00. We had some visitors this evening, and he was happily chinning and sniffing everyone. Suddenly this all changed after 1:00. I’ve already given him a belly massage, and put him in his cage to monitor his poops. Guess it’s an all-nighter for me.
3:19 : after the second belly massage he grudgingly accepted a raisin. Nearly had to shove it into his face, but he ate it.
Oh no Ellie, did you give him some simethicone? I hope he’s OK.
Q8 – Ah, come on. It was a teensy bit funny. :p
Happy Gotcha Day to Dory!!!
We don’t have it. I’ll ask Bas to try and find some first thing in the morning.
update 4:56 After several belly massages there seems to be a bit more life in him. He started to groom himself instead of laying stretched out all the time. I put some different types of food in his cage when it started, and suddenly I heard the sound of munching behind me. He started to nibble on another raisin, then on a small piece of a treat, and now he’s eating pellets ^_^ YAY!
He passed several very small very hard poops early in the night, and two larger wet ones just now. I think things are starting back up again. He’s also much more lively: stretching out to you when you approach instead of diving away. Whew, you scare me at times little fellow. And why ALWAYS on the weekends in the middle of the bloody night??? Oh well, as soon as you poop, all will be forgiven. ![]()
Poor NL friends
What a scare! Buns with nightowlish parents are lucky because you’re right, Ellie, it does seem to always go awry GI wise at night on weekends or holidays. Weeeeird…..
Glad the little mogway is ok.
and tummy rubs from me
(((Breintje))) always at weekends/at night, isn’t it
glad he is on the mend, and maybe get some simethicone in the cupboard in case you need it another time?
(((((Breintje))))) That’s so scary! Stay well now, little sweetheart!
Bandit always also used to get stasis on a weekend too, little pain in the neck
Apollo fortunately gave me the courtesy of acting out on a weeknight before the vet closed for the day
Feel better soon Breintje
I’ve been doing some more upgrades to the bunnies’ condo today. I managed to pick up the needed supplies on Thursday. After about 3 years, my roof now has a support beam
It looks so much better, lol. I stole Vienna’s great idea for a support beam for the top lid, it makes life so much easier and it just works so well. I also attached the grids for the shelves to the side of the cage by my desk. I’ve mostly made the new ledge for inside the bunny condo, cut that to shape today and attached the lino, but I need the edge capping since the store didn’t have the right size. Once I have the capping, I just need to cut the ledge support beams to size and it’s good to go. Hopefully it will be done tomorrow after a quick trip to the hardware store then I’ll show you all some photos ![]()
Eagerly awaiting the pics Az!
Thank you all for your well-wishes! It’s 11:30 here now, and we’re just starting on our breakfast. Breintje seems to be as fit as a fiddle again, but he’s still under close scrutiny. We’ll look for that simeticone ASAP. It’s a bit hard to find OTC meds here in NL, because a lot things are regulated and only available on recipe. I’ve heard it’s being sold under the name Infacol. We already have small syringes.
I was talking with Bas about the words “bunny parents” and “bunny mom”. He said: you surely act like a mom! Okay, I admit: maybe he IS our little furbaby… ![]()
Update: Breintje is very very cuddly and he has a massive appetite. He just munched a hand full of dandelion leaves. Bas is going out to buy the support package now: Infacol and carrots with tops for the bun, and B&J Karamel Sutra for me. (I ate half a tub at night because I was quite upset about Breintje.)
Sounds like a thoroughly good plan
Oh that stubborn little bun of ours, I was trying to administer the Infacol. Breintje was like: nope nope nope, no way you’re putting anything in my mouth! It was everywhere on his face except for in his mouth. Then he reflexively licked it off his face and decided: tasty orange flavour! So he bit into the syringe and gobbled all the simeticone up in one go.
Naaaw, Breintje =) =) =) Good boy!
Yay Breintje
no more scaring yr bun mum!
Im so glad little Breintje is doing better! Good to hear you have some infacol on had now.
Carrot tops are good too! You can always try those and dill.
Hope you were able to get some sleep, Ellie. we don’t want you feeling poorly too.
Karamel Sutra…. Um that sounds yum. Must google..
Happy Gotcha Day Doryyy! Azerane, did your goodies for her arrive in time?
Ellie! Karamel Sutra! My favorite is Peanut Butter Cup. I have to be strong now and speak to myself in the voice of Gandalf: You Shall Not Go and Buy a Pint of B&J!
(((( Breintje ))))
He was just checking you were keeping an eye on him and ROFL with the orange flavour – of course you should have tried the gentle approach first !!! LOL
Az – oh yeah, like I don’t steal ideas too !! LOL – Can’t wait to see the upgraded combo. Mine is planned for… whenever !
Dory, one year already ! Wow.
Cali is on medication to stop her throwing up – went to vets yesterday – slightly predicting that if we didn’t, then Cali would pull an emergency Sunday visit on me !!
Vet couldn’t feel anything dodgy in tummy so suspected a gastritis (?) where acid builds up with successive vomits after the first vomit… and so a few jabs later and yet ANOTHER contribution to the ‘make my vet richer’ fund.. we’re back home with a Cali who can eat a few biccies without bringing them back up – yay !
I think she’s cost more in 3 months than Kyra did in 13 years !!
![]()
Sorry to hear about Cali, hopefully the meds will work. Have you talked to the vet about possible (food)allergies?
It took a while, but we finally have some proper poop! Not the few wet lumps he produced this morning, but round pellets. It looks way better than what he had yesterday, because he had very small and very hard poops, slightly larger than pin heads. They clicked together like rocks, so dry.
Thanks again guys. Jersey, they did arrive on time, yes. I couldn’t believe it. I ordered Monday night, and the shipping I picked had an estimated 10 days but I wasn’t paying for express. They shipped Tuesday afternoon and arrived Thursday. So she got new toys which she happily mostly ignored, lol.
Vienna, I was just coming to ask how Cali was. Poor little thing, I’m convinced it could be the dry food though. It could obviously be a million and one other things, but if she goes back to vomiting, I think it’s worth considering a quality wet food instead.
Ellie, that’s great
Very glad to hear that Breintje continues to improve.
Right, off to do some bird surveys, then a trip to the hardware store for the remaining cage upgrade supplies!
They’ve been eating the food for four months now….
well see. Toychcwood today has been a “dry” day. No need to wash the sofa covers again… and tonight the sofa seat part is being stood vertically…. just like when Kyra was here !!
lol
Hmm, true but it may take time before effects start to compound from something like that. Luna didn’t have cecal poop problems from Vetafarm pellets straight away, I think that took about a month. And I can eat McDonalds without being sick, but I’m sure that if I ate it for every meal for a month then I would get sick. I know that probably doesn’t help, and I know there could be so many causes, I just figure that trying a different food is a fairly simple thing to try. Poor little Cali, hopefully it’s not an ongoing problem.
Have pretty much finished the bunny shelf, I need more clips for the fleece which I’ll get when we head out to the movies. But should have some photos up later today ![]()
So glad to hear Breintje is doing better!
Aww, poor Cali.
I’m going to second (or third?) the idea that it could be the food. The weird thing with allergies is they can develop over time. So an animal can be eating something for awhile and appear to have no issues. Then, all of the sudden, there is a problem.
Wow, my head hurts so bad. And I’m all gross and filthy. Yuck! I’m waiting for my husband to stop hogging the shower. Anyway, we were up on the roof all day. It was so freaking hot up there. I started to feel sick, my hands tingling too. I had to go cool off for a bit. But even after that, I still had to hurt myself trying to help get sheeting up onto the roof. I just wanted to cry. Now my head hurts. *sigh* The roof is in such awful shape and we needed to do something. I just wish it wasn’t my husband trying to do most of it himself. ![]()
LBJ, headache and tingling hands doesn’t sound good.
Im worried.
Sun hat and lots of water ![]()
And I can eat McDonalds without being sick, but I’m sure that if I ate it for every meal for a month then I would get sick
lmao !! Indeed, indeed !
I’ll get her better this time. Cats are renowned for being sick, so I’m not too worried that she was sick and if the acid has built up then that explains the repeat vomitting… but if this episode repeats itself then I’ll think about changing the food.
It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’m not doing anything, so I was looking forward to going to Brussels seeing a friend I haven’t seen in a year and spending the day catching up and going to a market or a gallery… she’s just texted and cancelled
If it was me a few years ago with just Kyra, I would up sticks with her and just go to a hotel on the coast for overnight. But I have buns now and so can’t…
crap…
(((Vienna))) hugs x and bunny nose bops
Oh that’s a bummer Vienna. Im sorry. : ( Any friends locally you can call on last minute and go out with somewhere?
After a cup of tea and a very scrummy, (and naughty but I deserve it (!), petit pain au chocolate!), I’ve mowed the lawn (OK its a postage stamp, but still!), cleared a box (only 5 million to go) and am going out for a walk to a yearly flower market to meet a friend there and will prob lumber back with plants coming out of my pockets !!
Some things are just meant to be !
![]()
btw, how can the word pain and chocolate be put together like that. Haha! I googled what that was. It looks like a mini sausage roll but filled with chocolate! Yummo! Looks like a choccy croissant.
Oh yes, get me to France, I need some of those right now….. (says the person with half a block of chocolate sitting next to her).
In case I miss it due to work etc, Happy Birthday for tomorrow Vienna ![]()
LOL – yes it is exactly that – a crusty croissant type viennoserie filled with 2 strips of choc…. and a bit gooey in the middle !!
Don’t know why they’re called “petit pain” Jersey… they have strange ways of saying things over here, like a biscuit is not “biscuit – “bis-ker-wee-” as you would think! Oh no, more than often described as a “petit gateau – small cake” .
Just back from flower market – well about 10 stalls…. and there was also 2 ducks, a donkey, poney, chickens, chicks and of course bunnies. They looked very well looked after even though muesli was in the bowls (ggrr). There was a mummy bun with 8 babies (all huddled together in a nice little house) – the Mum bun was luverly: an unusual silver mouse-coloured giant papillon, (dad, not present, is a more common black and white papillon apparentyl) and all 8 babies were different !!
Veeeery cute. Mum looked like a grey version of Zou with pointier nose and ears…. ahhhh.
Well, I may be early also (
that rarely happens!) but wishing you a Happy Birthday too, Vienna!
Hope you don’t party as hard as these guys.

And this is something I saw during the week I thought you’d enjoy.
Hopefully the link works.
How hilarious ! Thanks for that JG !!
I’ve never seen a dog go up backwards, but it seems a safe way to do it lol – I CAN though understand not wanting to come down. I used to slide down the stairs on my tummy, but to come down on all fours (with FEET on the stairs… oooooh no, far too steep).
Ha ha! The funniest dog is at 1:08
Happy Birthday Vienna!!!
Here are some pictures of bandit for may!

Sunbathing buns always crack me up.
Vienna: No piccies of the baby buns?
Thanks for the birthday wishes – but it’s tomorrow Monday LOL – that’s Az’s fault – Aussie’s ahead of everyone !!!!
I’ve given up on even trying to post piccies. Sorry. No baby bunnies no – and they were only 3 weeks anyway
Hey Kyle is in the cat piccie above with Cali !!
![]()
BanditCamp, he’s lovely
Jersey, poor silly dogs :/ My dog refuses to go up my mum’s staircases because she fell in one of them as a pup. She has no problem with other stairs or steps.
Well… we have one sides torn off, repaired and papered. No shingles yet. Still have to do the other side. It’s supposed to rain Tuesday night. =\
Happy early birthday Vienna!
OMG, I’m so tired. I’m about ready to pass out. I’m exhausted. And the house is trashed.
Happy Birthday, Vienna! Chewie sends nose boops and kisses and I hope your alternate birthday non-plans go all lovely-like ![]()
btw, how can the word pain and chocolate be put together like that. Haha! I googled what that was. It looks like a mini sausage roll but filled with chocolate! Yummo! Looks like a choccy croissant.
That is exactly what it is! A croissant filled with chocolate. My mum used to make them every Sunday when I was growing up. Which might explain why I no longer like chocolate. I probably overdosed on pain au chocolate! There’s an amazing bakery near my office that makes vegan croissants and pain au chocolate (amongst other things) and I’ve been tempted to try one just for the novelty/on the off chance it annihilates my dislike of chocolate ![]()
Bandit got a good banana feeding today, he’s still grunting when I take a bite tho
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AlPYT4ERyRekk17sPkD8yNr2keNN
BanditCamp, he growls when you dare take a bite of “his” banana! That is true bunnitude =)
Lol i share so he doesn’t get too much and we both get a healthy treat.
Thanks Q8 !!!! That’s lovely !!!!

Happy birthday Vienna! ![]()
Thanks Ellie ! ![]()
Happy Birthday, Vienna! I tried taking a pic of Bam for you, but he looked like a shapeless black blob on all of them, so he forbade me to post them. He sends his love though =D
Ahhhh i looove shapeless black blobs !!!! Rofl
Thank you xx
Yay, finally after 3 emails PostNL will “have a talk” with our local mailman. The bloody creep…
I live in an apartment building with 70 units, and a lot of young people live here. People are continuously ordering stuff online, and guess what: they all work during the day. I often had 2-4 delivery services a day ringing by doorbell at all hours, hurridly trying to dump their parcels addressed to other people in the flat like a game of hot potato. They found out I was home all the time, and appearantly being chronically ill forces you to become the local post-office? Ehm, no…
Because of my illness I often sleep during the day as well, and after being woken twice in a timespan of a one hour nap I thought: well, this is it, I’m through. I’m sorry too that these guys are underpaid, but you have to draw the line somewhere. So we de-installed both of my doorbells (one in the central entrance and one on the gallery), and we hung a note next to my door saying that I don’t want people at the door. This stopped all of it and I had a few weeks of respite.
Last week I was startled pretty badly by someone banging loudly on my kitchen windows. It turned out that a mailman had gotten into the flat (no idea how, the central entrance is locked). He had noticed that both my doorbells didn’t work and I had the note hanging on my door, but he was really in a rush to drop off a parcel for someone in the flat. I explained to him clearly why that note is there and why I don’t want people to bother me. He started to argue that the note wasn’t clear enough for him and that it didn’t expressly state “no parcels”. Well, I’ve written a new note now with all the sarcasm I could find, and this leaves no room for argument or doubt.
I mailed his company and after 3 emails I finally got it through their thick skulls that I don’t want to be stalked by frustrated mailmen, and that banging on someone’s windows is absolutely bloody creepy, especially if it is for a delivery which isn’t meant for you at all. I’ve also informed them that I’ll contact the police for violation of domestic privacy if this lunacy keeps continuing.
that is creepy. btw good job on saying you’ll call the police
Wow, I’ve never known a postal worker or delivery driver to be so desperate. o_O
That is insane there is not a better way to deliver mail.
It’s a bit like our old apartment: Mail carriers would just not deliver packages ever since they could not get in the front door. Luckily they didn’t harass the neighbors, but it was annoying always having to pick things up at the post office ![]()
Wow. They sound very… dedicated. 8\
Good job asserting yourself. That type of harassment really is unacceptable.
Of course, you could also have accepted every single parcel that came your way and then forced the delivery service to ransom it back from you when the original recipient complained of not receiving it. ![]()
Sadly it’s against the law to accept mail that isn’t yours in the United states. You don’t want to risk fine or prison.
Ellie, you should in enrol in Q8’s new course : 101 ways to “use” a potato ….
Did you have a lovely birthday, Vienna?
Ellie, that’s a terrible mailman. Don’t they get paid unless they deliver the parcels or what?
Thanks everyone, he really went too far. Don’t worry, I won’t be jailed. In NL it’s common practice that if you’re not home, the delivery will be attempted at the neighbours’ house. If they’re also not home, the mailman will try again tomorrow and if he can’t make the delivery again you can pick it up at the post office.
This would all work completely fine if your neighbours would get a parcel once a month or so. The point is that the mail services haven’t gone with the times. Offering evening delivery would already help a lot. People order more online, and that happened at about the same time that the postal services became a private company.
In NL we’ve had a streak of capitalism in the 90’ies: all kinds of government responsibilities were privatised. Things like public transport, the postal services, health institutions and health insurance were all turned into companies with the ability to make a profit. The idea was that a little competition would lower prices and would improve customer service. The exact opposite happened: prices skyrocketed and both customers and employees are worse off than ever. Hands up who’s surprised… The lack of doctors is a direct result: it’s not profitable for the hospital to train a med graduate and allow them to specialise. A lot of people get stuck after med school because hospitals don’t offer enough training places anymore. Same with health insurance, it’s nearly unaffornable now for the people who need it most: people with a low income like the chronically ill and the elderly.
Nowadays a mailman is no longer a government official, but often a self-employed worker who rents out his time to the postal services. Because why hire employees and give job security? It’s important that the company can be flexible, to be able to turn a profit. They’re paid by the parcel and not a lot at that. We used to have friendly mailmen who could feed a family, had job security and pride in being a government official. Now they’re always in a hurry because they’re paid by the parcel, and this has led to many bad situations. It’s raining complaints online everywhere. Yay for capitalism?
That doesn’t sound nice at all, Ellie No wonder the mailman is desperate to deliver the parcels. Privatization often go awry, same thing happened here with electricity companies. Prices skyrocketed. Several big companies adapted the strategy of turning off production at their electricity production plants for “maintenance” during the coldest, darkest moths of the year, to create shortages and up the price.
Sometimes capitalism does work better though. OTC meds are a lot cheaper here these days due to competition. ![]()
Well I’ll be… The note has been torn off the wall two times now, on friday and today. I’ve glued it onto a thick piece of cardboard, and screwed it to the wall next to my door. Of course I have not proof who tore it off, but if it indeed was this mailman, he’s got a lot of explaining to do. This has been reported again to the postal services.
It was probably torn off by the person who wants their parcel to be received by you…..
Wow Ellie, I’m getting annoyed just reading this! That dude needs to cop himself on
Ellie – Perhaps you should make a more professional looking sign, like one that’s in a plexi holder? Then fasten that to the wall. Seriously though, those are some dedicated postal workers. But once you explained the situation more, it makes sense now. Here, they don’t try too hard to deliver a parcel requiring a signature. And if it doesn’t require a signature, they simply throw it on your front step and run regardless of whether or not you’re home. I come home all the time with packages just sitting on the front step.
Well, there is now a really big tarp covering the roof. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow…
Dory and I are becoming closer friends, but I’m not sure I want to be closer friends.
Not when she lands on my head and tries to chew it, lol. We are making good progress. Today I’ve actually been touching her beak when I haven’t had a treat. She’s been reaching out for my finger with her beak open, I think she wants to figure out what I am and taste my finger but I’m not game to let her try, lol. Before she landed on my head, I could tell for the previous 15 minutes that she wanted to go there, so fortunately I had the hood of my jumped pulled up for protection. At first she tried chewing my head, then seemed to get a bit more gentle and after a few minutes flew back off of her own accord. I’m still terrified of her, haha. Parrot body language is so tough to get a read on, and I have no experience taming parrots, so it’s all a bit scary. As we progress, there’s no way that I’m not getting bitten again at some point, it’s just a matter of when.
As a side note, I’ve been leaving the bunnies out when Dory is out. Makes life so much easier and Dory completely ignores them which is perfect.
Ellie, that’s crazy about the delivery man. I’ve mainly had trouble with them knocking and walking off with the package before you’ve even had a chance to get to the door.
Ellie – turn it in your favour – 5 euros for a package held – paid on delivery !!
Az – condo looking gooood. Its bizarre the wood still bows (a bit !
) in the middle…. could you turn it on its side so the grain is going the other way….? ie won’t bow. Or is it the angle of the photo?
Jess loves pawing and clawing my hair and I get a free head massage at the same time
. Luckily I’ve got enough hair to stop the claws getting through !! ![]()
Oh yes and Henry is doing some REAL “Patton style” flops lately !!
He usually flops then boings straight up again (what did I miss, eh what?:!!) – but recently he is staying flat on his side. The first time I was genuinely worried !! LOL
Haha, I can imagine. Good to see he’s got the hang of it ^_^
Breintje was flopping in the sun the morning and it really made my day!
Today I was also firmly corrected by him for ignoring petting requests. He’s moulting, itchy, grumpy and won’t tolerate these shenanigans young miss. I was very busy with stuff on my PC, and I had no time to pet him extensively. A few pats on the head when he hopped up onto the couch, but nothing longer. 20 minutes ago he hopped onto the couch, looked at me and gave a very very firm and crisp *thump*. Oops, this is one offended bun… Then I got the brush out, and he snuggled up to me. Yes, this way the idea… *gnash gnash gnash*
Happy belated Birthday, Vienna! ![]()
Ellie: That’s crazy! I can’t believe they’re harassing you like that. Maybe you should add “Smile, you’re on camera!” to your note, that might keep them from ripping it down again, whoever it was. Or actually get a camera. ![]()
Vienna, stop stealing my suggestions re: potato warfare and mercenary opportunism! ![]()
I think that they should add them to the obligatory school curriculum !!
What class do you have today?
Me? Oh, just PWMO with Q8 – she’s, like, THE coooolest teach’ in the world !! *swoon*
Be careful, (((Ellie))). Its worrisome. This guy sounds a bit reactive. ![]()
Vienna!
Ellie, I’m going to second the hidden camera idea. Any way you can borrow one from a friend?
Thanks, but it’s bordering on illegal here in NL to put up a camera as a civilian if it isn’t exclusively pointed at your own house. You can easily get in trouble if there’s the chance that you accidentally film innocent passers-by. And that chance is high here, because I live at the end of a narrow hallway, next to a main exit. Many people pass by every hour, and it would be hard to point it exactly at my front door without filming other residents. People will likely complain about me invading their privacy if I put one up. If things get out of hand I’ll try getting permission from the police.
So far the sign is still on and still undamaged. I haven’t noticed any odd things and it’s been quiet, so I think he had a firm kick up the rear from his boss. Hope the message sticks.
Ellie, same in Sweden. You can only film on your own property. A hidden cam though and take the film to a newspaper rather than the police or postal company could perhaps work, if this situation gets way out of hand. Newspapers don’t have to give up their sources.
The biggest Homer “D’Oh !!” you can manage please !!
I realised about 2 weeks ago that I’ve got a big patch of land at the end of my road which is filled with Timothy grass !!!!
I go 20 yards in to miss the dog-on-a-leash-pee/poo-likely-areas and way-hay !!!!! (Pun intended!!) buns are happy.
I don’t know if they will eat it dried but I bought a shedload home tonight (” it’s that foreign girl again with scissors in her hand.. Darling, she isss a bit strange don’t you think?!! LOL) and I will send it with them when they go on holiday to bunny-camp this Saturday…
(which reminds me I still haven’t decided Peaks or Lakes…. or the Canaries…. :whistling; ) – or both
Ze ztrrrenge English gerl with ze zizzerrrs! Even bigger Homer D’Uh!!: Only last year I realized my brother had a garden full of orchard grass. Bam is not fond of bought orchard grass, but he loves fresh orchard and orchard I’ve dried myself.
Both the Peaks and the Lakes sound so marvellous. The Canaries nowhere near as exotic and breathtaking.
The Canaries nowhere near as exotic and breathtaking.
Take that back straight away Mz Bambam !
I discovered La Gomera, an island off of Tenerife, when I attempted to run away in 2014, and it is both exotic AND breathtaking…
A most lovely surprise !!
On approaching it on the ferry, my heart dropped as it was a sheer rock face with not a lot on it …. but oh ! To my surprise I discovered beauty – completely untouristed except for coaches meandering around the ‘truly lethal’ mountain roads with white-haired people on it – far too rustic to be disabled/old friendly – which coming from Los Cristianos was pure heaven !!!
Go on – Gooooogle it !
(PS – jump on a ferry and meet me up there…
)
I take it back, I take it back
Hell, I’d jump on a ferry and meet you up there, waving my bikini. But the only ferry to hop on here will sadly only take me as far as Failaka Island, which is neither beautiful nor exotic ![]()

I’d jump on a ferry too only that’d only me get as far as Denmark.

LOL, you’re welcome. The dirtiest part of my mind always wakes up first, because it’s closer to the gutter ![]()
I’ve been awake since 8, yes it’s a special occasion. Normally I don’t do mornings, but I had to feed a small army of volunteers who are setting up the LARP-terrain as we speak. So I was up at 8 and baking meatballs in the kitchen at 8:15. Just having my breakfast now, at 11:30. They just picked up a huge pot of meatballs and a selection of soft rolls, mustard, drinks and fruit. I’ll hope they’ll enjoy their lunch after a morning of hard work ^_^
This day is such a different day when you have to stay home. Normally I’d go with them to do the cooking on-site, but my back is making that impossible. It’s going to be a quiet weekend with all my friends out LARPing, but I was delighted when I saw them at the door with a big jar of my favourite candy ![]()
Ellie, stupid back!!!
Some quick updates, my apologies for not responding to others, my mind is elsewhere.
Apollo LOVES to binky on their new bed. He races around in circles on it and does little jumps etc. It is so stinking cute. Will try to get video, but don’t like my chances. Have been introducing the bunnies to oxbow pellets for the past couple of weeks, no cecal poop issues from Luna which is good. I’m hoping it stays that way.
Dory (our parrot for those who don’t know) was all over me again today, she was actually chirping to beg for me to pet her beak and following my hand around. It was really sweet. She still scares me, but she wants to be loved which is nice and trusts me enough to perch on my knee and let me pet her
She still isn’t too happy when I pet the feathers above her beak, her eyes pin and she turns her beak towards me, but it’s not outwardly aggressive. Eye pinning is when the pupil contracts rapidly, it usually indicates a strong emotion (excitement, anger, happiness etc) so the fact that she pins when I pet her feathers could mean she gets freaked out by it a little still, it’s only partial pinning, not all the way, so I have high hopes.
Vienna, the top condo door still bows a little because I used quite a thin piece of timber, I was worried about using something thicker that would prevent the lid from bending back on itself too much. The roof is level, and the door doesn’t fall in on itself. That’s what matters to me ![]()
Don’t worry, as long as we see you talking about bunnies we’re not worried. I mean: hardly anything is more important than bunnies, right?
That sounds so cute! It sounds like Apollo is having a great time. And congrats on the progress with Dory, your bond seems to be improving bit by bit.
OK dilemma – big cage doesn’t fit in stoopid new “big” Skoda car (WHO designs these things?!) so I have to take the medium size cage in the car for Z&H for the big trip tomorrow (5hrs). I miiiiiiis my Hondaaaaaaa.
So dilemma is – do I use the small litter tray (like get one bumcheek in – but they do use it! LOL) and they have more flop space together ?
Or use a cat tray as litter tray and half the cage is taken up – so one gets to flop in the tray and the other outside the tray… ??
So? Help. Small tray, lounging room? Or big tray, separate beds? Lol.
Dear Vienna, this is a challenging dilemma. But if one gets to flop in the cat tray, would he/she be so polite as to leave the comfy tray when the other bun needs to use the bathroom?
Could you also line the cage with puppy pee pads just in case?
I’d do cage liner with no tray. You said they won’t use the small tray, and Henry has been known to be oblivious so…
Why do I always seem to “walk in” on the oddest conversations on here? LOL
Latent talent? ![]()
Oh cool! I never noticed that about those 2 words before. Thanks teacher. ![]()
*Teacher ![]()
Just an update to those who know about my situation. Got a loan from the bank and me and bandit will be moving into a separate condo/flat from my brother and his awefulness.
do I use the small litter tray (like get one bumcheek in – but they do use it! LOL
They dooooo use it and I believe Zou to be the peepee culprit…… why would I not put one in there at al for 5 hours?
Now that’s just asking for twouble… cage liner, in a moving car, splosh splosh…? yiieeoow
Dear bam – yes, I believe if one’s comfybod did not move, then other said bun with legs crossed would jump in anyway and try to share…. they look like a big loaf of bread being cooked in too small a tin !! LOL
I’ll let you know…
I’m off now – toodlepip and see y’around.
BanditCamp, that’s lovely news ![]()
Safe travels Vienna!
BanditCamp: great news indeed!

Thanks everyone, he really went too far. Don’t worry, I won’t be jailed. In NL it’s common practice that if you’re not home, the delivery will be attempted at the neighbours’ house. If they’re also not home, the mailman will try again tomorrow and if he can’t make the delivery again you can pick it up at the post office.—————- ——————
Here in the U.S., the mailmen just leave the package by your front door (in a little plastic bag if it is raining). They don’t even knock to see if you are home (which I think is a good idea, some people don’t like their doors knocked on). Then when you get home from work or school, you can just pick it up when you walk in if it is not too heavy, or if you are already home, you can open the door and pick it up. Maybe you should tell the post office about that method and it would be much quieter?
What do you do if it IS too heavy? Or if it gets stolen (which does happen when tempting parcels are left unattended in doorways). ![]()
If it is too heavy…. you pray it isn’t. Then you ask the neighbors for help (or whoever you live with.)
As for stealing, I guess you’d just report it? Never happened to me, and you usually get there before it is.
Trying to keep an eye on Winter… she was hunched over and not herself. I’ve given fresh hay now so we’ll see, but I think she was eating before. Also, she was licking me, and whenever she swallows there’s an odd sound…? (Yesterday anyway.)
{{{Winter}}}
Q8! Leafsnap! ?? Was it you that was trying to recall an app that could ID plants from a photo?
Maybe winter was dehydrated and her throat was dry? I hope she gets better!
Q8 packages are not stolen in the US, it is against the law
Get well soon Winter!
Yay, I’m bunny-sitting again this weekend, and Ollie is getting used to me. He’s young, unfixed and wild, so usually he’s way too hyper to be petted. The lady I’m bunny-sitting for instructed me to keep him in his cage, because he’s very difficult to catch again. This also means that he can’t release all his pent-up energy during the weekend :/
Yesterday and this morning he was very hungry and very hyper, binkying up and down his cage. When I just visited he spotted me and lay as close to me in his cage as he could, wanting to be petted. He lay there for several minutes and chattered his teeth a bit occasionally. Then he got a bit itchy and stood up to scratch his ear. When I held my hand up near him, he gave a couple of hesitant licks. I was a bit puzzled by his calmness and wondered if he might be feeling a bit under the weather, but when I showed up with his veggies he tore into them. Nope, just an occasional lazy moment ^_^
She told me that visiting once a day would be enough, but that she doesn’t object to more visits. I try to visit at least twice, because he’s alone in a cage all day. And of course, rabbits are delicate and they need to be monitored properly. Visiting once every day may mean that you spot things too late if a rabbit turns ill suddenly. With Breintjes tummy issues fresh in mind, I can’t sleep easily knowing Ollie isn’t looked after.
Ollie sounds like a sweetheart! And so do you, Ellie, for looking after him so well
(((((Winter)))))
Packages are stolen where I am. It’s the risk you take, I suppose. But that’s how it is in the US. Unless you specifically request that the package needs to be signed for (i.e. you ordered something really expensive like a computer), then they simply leave it on your front step. Around the holidays, it isn’t unusual for thieves to take advantage of all the holiday shopping and parcels being left. =\
I have theft problems. I wired a blank shotgun shell to an empty Amazon box with a pressure switch. When they pickup the box the shell goes of and I like to watch them freak out down the stairs. (Not anymore due to brother breaking cameras) I only do it when I’m expecting mail
my bed came 8 days late but i got new bedding that has bunnies on it. YAY

It says “Mon Ami Le Lapin” on/in the rabbits ill post pics tomorrow
<div class="a-hidden" id="thumbs-image" customfunctionname="(function(id, state, onloadFunction){ P.when('A').execute(function(A){ A.trigger('image-block-twister-swatch-click', id, state, onloadFunction); }); });"></div>
I am not happy right now. My husband took the Dish down because he needed to replace the sheeting underneath it (he’s replacing the roof and it was mounted on the roof). Anyway, he said we could set it up temporarily in the yard on a pole so I wouldn’t be without TV for 2 weeks (which I’m paying for). Well, we can’t seem to find the signal again. I called Dish, they said it would be $150 to come out, but it would take them a few days. Um, no. Now I’m really pee’d off. I wanted to watch the new Dr Who episode tonight. =\
We might have to switch after this because our internet provider isn’t going to let us bundle a home phone anymore. They said if we want to keep Earthlink (which we have been happy with, price has remained unchanged for 15 years), then we would either have to get rid of our home phone or pay $50 a month for it. Yeah, no to that too. Ridiculous. I can add on a home phone with Verizon for $20 a month.
She’s refused absolutely everything… going to vet in 30 mins.
Blue Moon – I love your bed
That the model pic or yours?
LBJ – Wow, those rates are insane. I hope you get something figured out. Doctor Who can’t wait.
We managed to pick up the signal from one satellite. So we can’t get all of our channels at the moment, but we are getting BBC. Yay! I don’t know, I’m getting really sick of all of this stuff. I can’t watch Netflix or Hulu very well though. The internet is too slow. Plus everything on there is old. =\
Reese: I was being tongue in cheek because packages DO get stolen in the US (and Canada… and Timbaktu) all the time. Even if it is against the law
You’re just fortunate to have never been a victim.
Bandit: LOVE it!
More peeps should do that.
Blue: The linens are a dream. I so want some now LOL Too bad my linens are all pretty much recently replaced
BunnyF: ((((((Winter)))))) I hope it’s nothing but a bit of gas
Jersey: Yes. It was me LOL And that’s the one we settled on ![]()
(((( winter ))))
Happy Mother’s Day to all the human mums and bun/pet mums today! As usual with parenting there are good and bad times. Dory and I were hanging out on the couch this afternoon when she decided it would be fun to shuffle down my leg and bite my ankle. No fun, but we were friends again a short time later, I just have a painful bruise
We went out for breakfast with mum and her partner and my brother’s family. We then went to a local park for my nieces to play on the playground. It was a nice morning, beautiful sunny weather for it too
BunnyFriends, I hope Winter is feeling better.
Blue Moon that bedding is lovely
We unfortunately have a patchworked quilt on the bed so I can’t buy adorable quilt covers etc. It’s also not unfortunate because it’s a gorgeous quilt that my mum made for us as a wedding present, and I love it!
LBJ10, I hope you can get your dish and internet etc sorted. My husband upgraded us to a higher speed and it was supposed to flick over about a week ago but we’re not seeing any improvement so we’re going to have to get onto them as to why that hasn’t happened.
Happy Mothers day everyone! I’m jealous of your bed sheets Blue Moon. Wait… there are new episodes of Doctor Who???? Is there another doctor?
Beautiful bedsheets, Blue Moon!
BunnyFriends, how is Winter?
Bandit: That would be so crazy illegal here. I’d so like to see thiefs run off though.
@BunnyFriends: poor Winter, good that you’re taking her to the vet. Please keep us posted and lots of vibes for the little one!
@Bandit: LOL, I love the concept. You’d probably be arrested for entrapment here in NL, but I’d be so great to teach those nasty thieves a lesson. That’s one bad thing about the justice system here: sometimes the criminal seems to be better protected than the victim
The country is in uproar this week because a Polish guy got paternity leave from jail. He was speeding and killed an elderly couple with their grandchild. Now he can take a break, travel back to Poland and enjoy the birth of his own child. Should have thought about that before speeding, you ^%##%!
@Blue Moon: Love the sheets with the “bunny friends” text ^_^
@LBJ: what a mess, I hope it can be fixed soon!
Yikes, little incident while bunny-sitting today. She told me he was quite the jumper, and he jumped out of his cage when I tried to feed him. After some chasing around (which must have looked rather comical because of my back) I managed to pick him up and bring him back to his cage. My, our Ollie is big, young and strong! Lifting up large buns who’re struggling is so scary, I’ve heard many stories about them injuring their backs. So I supported his hind legs as well as I could and carried him back quickly. He flopped in his cage panting, and I started to calm him down. He really *hates* being picked up.
Luckily he started hopping around the cage again and he nibbled on some endives. Afterwards he wanted to be petted and I sat with him for 15 minutes to check his health. It’s my worst nightmare to have an accident happen to a bun I’m bunny-sitting for, it’s quite the responsibility. I told the lady via Whatsapp and she said I handled it well and was being way too kind.
Ellie, that is scary! Well handled! Can’t you get surgery for your back?
In Sweden the Polish guy wouldn’t even have got prison time for a crime like that
We don’t know yet, I’m getting an MRI on the 27th (yes it runs on weekends too). Counting off the days… We don’t know what it is yet, but the symptoms are nerve pain shoots along my whole my right leg into my foot, general lower back pain and a dulled feeling of the skin on the back of my leg. It means that some nerve is probably irritated or partially stuck around my SI joint, but no clue yet what caused it. It could be a slipped disc, a misalignment of the SI joint, a hernia, or my rheumatic illness having found another joint to play around in. I already have it in 13 joints and it would really **** to have it in my SI joint as well, because the nerve to your leg runs past it very closely. Oh well, no use speculating and getting myself worried. Best wait for the test results.
Yes, best wait for the result before speculating too much!
Today I discovered that Tony really loves water, however in true grumpy-bun style, he does not like being wet…
He loves water as longs as he can control it ![]()
Reesebun – We’re 5 episodes into the new “season” (series 10). These will be Peter Capaldi’s last episodes as The Doctor.
Love the bedding BlueMoon!
Ellie – I’m pretty sure most animals know when it’s someone “different” and they take full advantage of the situation.
Until recently, the only Doctor Who that I had seen was the old stuff from maybe the 70’s and 80’s. I don’t know, all I know is that it was on tv, and I watched some episodes when I was little and the Daleks were scary
Long story short, I never got into the craze of the new Doctor Who until the current series, when it started a short time ago and hubby suggested we watch it. Unfortunately we did miss 2 eps but I am really enjoying it. I can’t compare, but I really like Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. I am finding an urge to go back and watch from the very beginning. No matter how long it takes
Wikipedia tells me there’s over 800 episodes… so, it could take a while.
More progress with Dory today. She discovered that it’s nice to have her head petted. Whenever I get home from work she’s always excited for attention because she’s been home alone. So she’s most interested in pats then. So I was petting her through the bars and she kept lowering her head further down and letting me scratch further up and ruffle her feathers quite a bit. I could tell she liked it, even though she turned her beak toward me a few times
She also bit me yesterday, one minute we’re enjoying some quiet time with her on my knee, the next minute she climbed down and bit me on the ankle. Yes, there is a bruise
Luna had a wet nose when I got home from work today too. I don’t think it’s anything as sometimes her nose is a touch damp (maybe condensation or drinking etc), but I’m going to keep a closer eye, just in case.
I will continue a discussion started between Jersey and I over in the May pictures thread.
In a nutshell, I am getting ready for my first extended absence from Patton since we brought him home. You see, my wife is Japanese and every year we take the kids back there for 2 months while they go to school there, and she spends time with her friends and family (it’s so hot out here in Arizona and very hard to find things to do with kids out of school). Anyway, I go over with them for over a week before coming back home (and work). So I will be gone for about 9 days.
We went out to a hotel last night and between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, all Patton saw of us was me checking in real quick to top his food off Saturday night. I found him in the dark (I had left some lights on, but someone had come after me and turned them off before we left) in the faint street light of the front room window. He hadn’t touched his food. I refreshed his veggies and carried him to the kitchen where he ate happily. I left the light on and we didn’t come home until the next afternoon.
Patton is usually a free roam bunny between 7am and 11pm. Last night, I left him out all night.
We got home this afternoon and Patton had eaten all his food and was waiting for us at the front door when we walked in. He was happy to see us, but soon I discovered that his version of protest had been to dig out his litterbox in the downstairs living room! ![]()
Now I’m about to be gone for 9 days and fretting a bit for the poor guy (and possibly the poor house??)
I hadn’t decided yet if I was going to leave him out full time or ask my father (who lives nearby) to put him up every night.
My dad will be checking in on him twice a day but not living in the house. I’m a bit concerned that Patton may not like the change of schedule. Dad can let Patton out early in the morning, but may not be able to wait later than 8pm to put Patton to bed.
Complicating things, over the Memorial day weekend, my Dad also has to go out of town and we discussed having my Dad take Patton to the vet/pet hotel for that weekend.
Jersey suggested leaving a T.V. or radio on while I’m gone. Any other suggestions?
Here is the pic of how Patton cleaned out the litterbox! ![]()

Personally, Id opt for shutting him up as usual, even if 3 hours earlier. This would be more routine for him them being left free roam 24/7. It should give you (and your Dad!) peace of mind and I wouldn’t think a bit extra time being penned up will be detrimental to Patton in the long run.
At least then your father will know where Patton is when he comes by in the morning. Patton will also have the familiarity (and excitement?) of being let out daily as usual.
Is he easy to handle? Will your Dad be picking him up to put him away overnight or will Patton go there willingly?
I get a feeling that Patton sort of takes on a guard bunny role, with his hanging out near the front door. Or he has the sense of needing to stay more alert when the family is absent, but will chill more when you are about. My bun that is free range in the bedroom often sits up on the bed in the evenings. I’ll often find him there when I get in late. I think it’s a good sentinal point for him. But once Im in the room, that’s when he’ll go tuck into his hay then flop out and snooze. It’s like, now I can be the look-out rabbit and he’s off duty.
I know some people feel it might be cruel to pen up their rabbit at all (or more then usual) but I rather think it can be rather overwhelming for some rabbits to have too much space all the time. A cage or pen can be a haven they can turn their prey instincts down a notch (if possible).
Another consideration is; you are probably in the habit of shutting this door, putting that thing away, tucking that chair in etc… so that you can avoid certain situations with Patton or the kids. Things your Dad may not think of or do out of habit. So, when he is alone for the longer duration overnight, there is more likelihood of him getting into mischief and perhaps more opportunity to get to areas you are normally careful to ensure he doesn’t get to. Is that fair to say?
Does he normally sleep a lot through out the day even though he is free roam then? I personally don’t think it matters as much that he’s out and about then if you are pretty familiar with his behaviour during that time and you have someone checking in later in the day. But overnight? That might be a different story. Especially if he has a dawn “crazy hour” like a lot of rabbits do.
On a side note, Japan must be beautiful this time of year!
p.s. I think LBJ,s Leopold may have been in touch with Patton and corrupted him. Gave him tips on how to protest against your humans taking holidays without you. Best take away his cell phone and access to internet for the time being.
I’d keep his routine as close to normal as possible – it would be comforting for him. Plus he seems to… umm… flop around a lot
The radio or tv on not very loud is a great idea. Any chance you can put it on a timer for him?
Re: Japan, SO lucky – will you guys catch the cherry blossoms where you’re going? I know they bloom as late as June further up north in the Hokaido region. Do the kids attend 2 months of regular school for the 2 months there, or international school? If the former they must be bilingual? Way cool if so!
Watashi wa Nipon ga daisuki desu.
This week is the last week of classes before final exams and I’m ready to resign. lol Kinda serious, though. Some of the stunts the kids are pulling and the extent to which they’re getting off lightly is simply unacceptable.
Plus I feel like I’m going blind from all the marking… gah!
(((Courage to all those who need it)))
I’m on a service station on the way to holiday somewhere… still dont know where
.. still havent booked anywhere for tonight.. lol. Am just south of the Peaks… so will stop by there and see what all the fuss is about… lolol

Bon voyage, mon amie ![]()
Jersey-
Yes, Patton is SUPER easy to handle and pick up (if you support under his butt while lifting him) but my Dad may not even need to do that. Entice Patton with some cilantro or parsley and you can’t get rid of him! ![]()
Point 2: Yes, if left alone 24 hours a day, I am sure Patton would rebel against our absence getting into things he wouldn’t normally get into. I’d come home to find new bald spots in the carpet
, pee spots in random places
, and he might even find a way to get in there behind the T.V. once and for all! ![]()
. So I agree with your suggestion that he be cooped up at night even if it is a few hours earlier.
Point 3: Yes, he usually sleeps mostly from about 9 or 10am until about 5pm. Therefore, he only has about 3 or 4 hours of his normal active time out of his pen. But on the other hand, he’s a French Lop. He would actually run around for about 4 or 5 minutes of those 3-4 hours.
The rest of the time is spent getting pet while I use the computer or watch T.V. on the sofa. ![]()
Yes, Japan can be quite beautiful, but I normally don’t really get the ‘scenic Japan’ tour. I usually get the ‘OK, this is normal mundane life, you just can’t read the signs Japan tour’
Once in a while, we will take a trip to a hot spring resort and that’s awesome!
Q8: summers in Japan are awesome (as long as it’s not too hot or humid) but cherry blossom season is already over, even in Hokkaido (we’re going to Obirhiro, on Hokkaido) ![]()
I think I prefer radio over TV (we have a classical public radio station in town. No commercials. Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Ravel… Ahh, the greats!) but timer I don’t know. Maybe my Dad can just turn it on/off in the morning and night.

Spontaneous human vacation??
Ah, well have fun wherever you wind up!

Have fun Vienna!
I decided that I’m not going to pet-sit for a while, now I just have to tell my neighbour the “good” news
While I do want to be a good neighbour, my back is just too busted right now to handle a bun properly. Especially if it’s a large 3-4 kg escapee who’s kicking frantically. Had to chase him around on the floor yesterday on my hands and knees. I may very well end up hurting the bun AND my back. Hmm, now to bring the message carefully but firmly: you’ll have to find another pet sitter for a while. She’ll probably start to argue again that “it’s only a bit of pellets once a day”, because she did so when I told her that it was going to be difficult last weekend. Now as a bunny lover I know that that’s absolutely not enough and there’s a lot more work involved.
That’s rough, Ellie
Just stick to your guns and hopefully she’ll realize that you really are in pain and are just thinking of safety for you and her bun.

HAPPY B-DAY CEDRIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got your birth date wrong sorry
cant believe it your 1 year old already
I’m kind of mad right now. I’ve started having panic attacks because of my school. I had one so bad today that i had to go home at 10:30 and school only starts at 8:30. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I HATE SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Cedric!
BM: Is there something in particular about your school that has been triggering your panic attacks?
Happy b’day Cedric (((BM)))
yeah a girl who has been a total jerk to me since kindergarten. and an idiot teacher who hated me since i stepped foot in the class room. as well as the principal who hated me since she started at the school. so basically the whole school. the girl who is a jerk has pitted everyone in my class against me (including my former best friend) so I now have no friends. I’m hoping to move schools by next year. so not specifically one thing unless you count the whole school as one thing. the only place I have friends is the whole 3rd grade (my school goes from pre k to 12th grade).
BM – So you have friends in the third grade? What grade are you in if you don’t mind me asking? I’m assuming you probably don’t get to see them much since you are in a different grade than them.

GJ – Squee! How cute that they all have a dandelion.
Happy Birthday, Cedric Bun! You look so plushy in your sunshine photos ![]()
Alien Covenant is opening in a few days… so stoked! ![]()
i actually get to see the 3rd graders every day because I go read to them during my/their lunch
BM why is everyone in your grade so mean?
idk maybe because we have been in the same class since 1st grade
Q8: Me too! I wasn’t too impressed with Prometheus, but I’m excited for this one. Trying to talk the hubby into going to watch it. ![]()
We’re pretty sure we have a squirrel in our attic, we hear a lot of chewing noises (we decided to call him Beaver). We were hoping he would just leave at some point, but he doesn’t seem to plan on going anywhere as he has now moved into a wall. So now we’ll have to get a trap and try to catch him. Does anyone have any experience catching attic squirrels? The hubby said we should just send Bubbles up there to deal with it. I’m sure that would be very effective, but afterwards the attic would probably look like we rented it out to Hannibal Lecter, so we’ll try the trap first… ![]()
We should start a betting pool. Bubbles vs Beaver ![]()
Grrr, I’m so pissed off at my BF right now! He finished his bachelor thesis last month and was waiting for the committee to grade it. He also got a presentation date weeks ago, but that date was still quite uncertain. It was in my agenda but I didn’t really plan for it, because it was uncertain and I hadn’t heard him talk about it. Today we talked over the phone a bit and appearantly the date was made definitive some weeks ago. And he didn’t tell me, the twit! So now I suddenly have to prepare for tomorrow, change my planning, and make sure that my electric mobility scooter is fully charged so I can make the trip (takes 15 hours). He said he didn’t mention it to friends and family because he didn’t care much about people being present. But WE do! For all I know it may be the last and only graduation moment he has, because he’s still on the fence about doing a master’s degree after his long ordeal obtaining his bachelor’s degree.
Don’t be too upset. I slept through all of my graduations except law school (that one I went to but only because I was meeting up with friends there on our way to a pub crawl). Some of us just don’t think about it in ‘big deal’ terms. But my mom tells me that I’m strange and it’s your (and her) reaction that’s natural. ![]()
Well, he has to be there himself to give his final presentation, so I’m postive he’ll show up at least. Just rushed to the store to get flowers and a card, these moments should be cause for celebration I think ![]()
The weather is really great here, so good in fact that I took out my summer clothing again. Hehe, it’s really funny to notice that guys will still whistle or say “Hi!” even though you’re obviously ill/handicapped and sitting in a mobility scooter. It does make it easier to wear a pair of cute heels though if you don’t actually have to walk in them ^_^
Amen, sister.
Ellie, you’ve mentioned Bas is a shy, introverted guy, right? So im thinking his not mentioning it is him not wanting to bring attention to himself. Yes, it should be acknowledged and celebrated (!)and I also think he’ll be glad to have you there – but I can sorta see why he may not have made a big deal of it beforehand, especially if he’s already nervous about the whole thing.
I didn’t want my parents to come to my graduation after I completed my tertiary qualifications. Mum wanted to go (like she had for some of my siblings graduations) and I insisted she didn’t. In hindsight, I think she was probably offended. But I knew the ceremony would be a farce and it pretty much was. Kinda wished I didn’t have to go myself. Lol.
You were totally right about it Jersey, spot on! We talked about it afterwards and he admitted that it was because he was so stressed out.
And now for the good news: he passed! His thesis and his thesis defense were accepted
We’re a bit less happy about his score, but that doesn’t matter for his diploma. He passed with a score of 6/10 (barely passed: 5,5 and above is pass). We all thought that was very meager and totally undeserved, because everything that could go wrong went wrong. The research was supposed to be done in 3 months but it took him over a year. He got extremely outdated equipment which couldn’t process the data properly, several parts of the machinery didn’t work, and as a cherry on the cake his supervisor got another job in the middle of the project. We’re all really proud that he did manage to get some results and some good recommendations for further research.
So now the only thing he has to do to obtain his B Sc. diploma is a 3-month module of his choice, and he has to re-take his anatomy test which he just failed last month. He’s so delighted that the ordeal is finally over. Suddenly all the stress is gone!
Woohoo! Felicitations Bas!
I hope a celebration is in order for the three of you? ![]()
Yayayayayyyyyy. Go Bas !!! Good looking AND intelligent….!!!
I’ve had enough of rain on my hols… so NOW I’ve got to decide where to go and chase the sun next week…. (tough job!!!) Canaries? Balearics? (And thats about all the sun options these days if you remove Egypt/turkey/tunisia from the equation due to risk of terrorist attacks….
.)
With all three of us (me and both sons) currently studying for degrees, I have every sympathy for the pressure Bas has been under! Congrats to him from me and our fluffle!
Thank you all! We’re both completely tuckered out, it was an exciting day. Bas got 2 flower bouquets and found out that his student home didn’t have any vases. So now they’re standing in huge beer mugs, ah the joys of student lifestyle XD
Vienna: he really blushed at your comment ^_^ But indeed I’m very happy with my clever and handsome man!
Also: Croatia is supposed to be lovely. All the goodness of the Mediterranean climate without being a complete tourist trap.
Congratulations to Bas!!!
Vienna, I’m so sorry it’s been raining on you
Both the Canaries and the Balearics sound nice. Croatia is supposed to be extremely beautiful as well. I’ve never been. People still holiday in Greece. You mustn’t go anywhere near Turkey or Tunisia etc. It was quite enough when Q8 was in Istanbul during a terror attack.
Ellie, that’s wonderful! Congrats to Bas! I miss being in school (the atmosphere), but I don’t miss my senior research (undergrad) and thesis (grad). Bleh.
Vienna, I’m sure you can find somewhere beautiful to visit. But remember, sun and sand are highly overrated.
I’d much rather be hiking.
Why does no one listen to me? Seriously. I tell people at work that we need to do X. No, no, no… we’re not going to do that. Two weeks later? Yeah, we’re going to do that. *sigh*
Congrats to Bas! He must be feeling great now.
@LBJ, that happens to my sister at her work a bit. She can at least put it behind her now. She started maternity leave tomorrow.
Maybe you have to trick them into thinking it’s their idea. ![]()

![]()
I know which one I’m betting on!
Poor Beaver doesn’t have a chance…
Congrats to Bas!
Oh man…
Chris Cornell killed himself…
I loved his music. Soundgarden always had amazing shows. And he was so nice to my bro and me after an Audioslave concert we went to some years back. Another light swallowed up by the darkness. ![]()
Yes, I was totally shocked as well, and so sudden… It’s so sad to hear that he may have been hiding his problems for years now. Even his friends and family seemed to suspect nothing
Awesome that you and your brother met him at a concert. Most people I met in the rock/metal scene may look like tough cookies but are the nicest people ever once you talk to them.
How sad. What a terrible waste.
I saw on facebook this morning and I couldn’t believe it. So sad, indeed. I love Soundgarden.
Jersey – Oh it is their idea when they decide to do whatever it is. Very annoying sometimes. But I suppose I shouldn’t complain. Things are still uncertain as far as our funding goes.
I was a bit annoyed when I showed up at the middle school I do an after-school program at to do our end of the school year field trip. They didn’t tell me until I got there that they had forgotten to make transportation arrangements. The kids were disappointed. There wasn’t anything I could do about that.
Right, Ellie? I briefly met quite a few “names” through the years, especially having lived in Toronto and having had friends involved in the music and movie biz, and most people are shockingly humble and genuinely nice.
I’ve been listening to songs like I Am the Highway, Crawling Up the Walls, and Like A Stone this morning and the lyrics seem to take on a whole new meaning. Chris and his amazing voice will be missed.
LBJ: That is awfully inconsiderate of those people! No wonder your frustrations are piling up. Bon courage, mon amie ??
I literally wanted to beat my head on the table during a meeting this morning.
LBJ, how frustrating!!!
Eh, you get used to it. We were having a meeting about how we were going to solve a problem. We need help from another department. I don’t think we got very far, honestly. The time in the meeting was monopolized by this one thing, which felt too much like a tangent to me.
Wow, that’s a really awful failure on their part LBJ! Poor kids
@Q8: I think that’s what you get with niche scenes indeed: it’s music from fans for fans. I’m really into folk metal, which is a style of metal which incorporates traditional folk instruments like bagpipes, violins, flutes and whatever they managed to dig up basically. Each folk metal band plays in their country’s unique style, which is very interesting and refreshing. Lyrical themes are often about folk legends, long travels, history and the local pagan mythology.
It’s such a niche scene that bands from different countries often tour together. While they’re not playing, members of other bands often wander out into the crowd to have a couple of drinks. At these concerts it’s totally possible to stand in the crowd wearing a T-shirt of your favourite band, being totally oblivious to the fact that you’re surrounded by their drummer, their guitarist and their bagpiper. The funny thing is that it’s so little about looks and image, that you won’t recognise people unless they’re on stage. They’re all basically a bunch of hairy dudes with bandshirts on, with the exception of a few ladies. Of all the metal genres folk metal draws a surprising amount of women (still only maybe 15% of the crowd).
Like grunge, there has been a wave the last decade and it’s mostly dying down. Some bands have moved onto vastly different styles and lost a large part of their fanbase with their latest albums. (I’m looking at you, Turisas… WTF… That one disco parody was a great laugh, but releasing 2 pop-rock albums???) Others have disbanded or are only producing albums at a slow pace. The genre itself is pretty innovative within metal in general, but it’s easy to repeat yourself within the genre, if you catch my drift. Luckily we’ll always have the classics, like “The Varangian Way” by Turisas. A great concept album about a Viking man who travels down the Russian trade route with a group of comrades, on his way to Constantinople in an attempt to find out who his father was. The album narrates the journey, detailing every peril underway, a visit to a king’s court and the splendour they see when arriving in the most glorious city of that day and age.
Oh wow! That sounds pretty epic! ![]()
sounds cool

I literally wanted to beat my head on the table during a meeting this morning.

I have no idea why they spelled “Fore” like that.
wow
yeah why would they spell for as “fore”
LOL, taken their own advice too many times?
ok so it was Cedric’s birthday on Monday and his “Party” is today I made him a cake
his “cake” is a strawberry with a mint top in it he is also going to get a small slice of apple poppy will get a small bite of apple
LOL Reese!
So we bought a house over the winter it sits on 2 acres of land. And tonight I learned we have lots of mulberry trees in my backyard! Every summer we’d go to the college because there were a couple wild mulberry trees there and we’d harvest them to make pies with. Can’t buy the berries in the store so we could only do it when those two trees were at their fullest. Well, these trees have thousands and thousands of berries! They’re packed with so many! I picked a gallon of berries tonight lol and there are still just SOOOOO many that have yet to ripe and a few gallons of ripe berries still remaining. We are just going to freeze them for pies, and of course my 2 year old loves berries for snacks so we will be set for the year once the picking season ends. I feel like we hit the jackpot! Lol
I didn’t know you bought an acreage NBO. That’s awesome! We used to pick mulberries to feed to the box turtles at my old job. They LOVED mulberries. You could always tell when someone feed them mulberries too because their poop would be full of seeds. That is how the seeds are spread, you know. Only it’s usually birds doing it. I’m surprised you have so many that are uneaten. I remember one year all of the trees were completely striped of their berries. The birds ate them and raccoons too. The only ones I managed to get were from a mulberry tree that happened to be growing inside one of the animal enclosures.
It’s going to rain again! Agh! I don’t think my roof will ever get finished.
That’s so creative Blue Moon! Happy birthday to Cedric!
Happy Birthday, Cedric! That cake is gorgeous! ![]()
BlueMoon, beautiful cake! Cedric will be so pleased!
NBO, that sound so great
My mother has a mulberry tree, it had berries for the first time last year. The birds ate most of them but the humans got to taste them at least.
thanks Cedric loved the cake but the little stinker ate the strawberry before anything else and made a big stain on the couch lol crazy bunny
literally making the rabbits morning salad right now. I’ve decided to take the buns off of pellets. In the salad there are so many different veggies there is: grass, radicchio, arugula, dandelion greens, clover, mint, spinach, romaine lettuce and dandelion heads. there is so much in that salad
Haha! Oh trust me there are SO many birds on the trees and my dogs are eating what fall on the ground lol their poops are like nothing but seeds lol! But that’s just how packed these trees are with the berries! Plenty for everyone! Thousands upon thousands of berries ![]()
So I’ve been thinking about it. I think I do want to get Bam a companion. Like, every time I come in the office and see him. Just him. An overwhleming sadness comes over me. And it’s not about just losing Sophie. But the sadness is for Bam. I feel sad seeing him just lounging alone. Or hopping about exploring. alone.
NBO, that does sound sad. Is he otherwise doing ok? Eating and pooping and all that? (((((Bam)))))
Good idea NBO, many rabbits prefer to be in pairs. When you’re trying to bond rabbits, it would be best if you got a female rabbit from a shelter, so her personality has already developed and you can match personalities. Most shelters do rabbit speed dates, where they can decide for themselves which partner they prefer.
Posted By bam on 5/22/2017 1:30 PM
NBO, that does sound sad. Is he otherwise doing ok? Eating and pooping and all that? (((((Bam)))))Oh yeah he is. And if I’m being completely honest with myself he doesn’t even seem phased. It’s just after going from 2 to 1 everyth20ing he’s doing, normally, just seems like a lonely adventure. eating, lounging, just hopping about. It’s just him. Feels empty and seems lonely doing it all by himself.
Ugh. Just caught up on the news. ![]()
Jersey, horrible news.
I feel sad about my Bam too, because he’s alone. The worst is when he’s grooming his tunnel. That’s so crazy sad. I thought a lot about getting him a companion after Yohio passed, they weren’t bonded, but they were completely aware of each other as co-bunnies in the same household. I didn’t though, Bam was so terribly bullied by Yohio and there are no shelters here so no possibility of speed dating or anything like that.
Chewie grooms the wool rug, furniture, cushions, throws, and bedding. And me. A LOT. But despite that, he seems super happy. And I’ve learned his body language. When he wants a buddy, he sits and stares very pointedly at me in a particular way. So I stretch out on the rug and we cuddle and groom until he’s had his fill and hops away. Same when he’s hungry. He’ll sit and look very casual and aloof in a particular way. So I grab his meal, and a snack for myself, and we put our bowls together and eat in companionable semi-silence. I used to feel sad to the point of tears about his being alone. But I’ve witnessed too many vicious fights and eventual depression from him when another bun was in the house and he had to share me. So I’ve decided to listen to his body language. He is one contented bun. ![]()
I’ve just heard the Manchester news too. Makes me sick to the stomach
And timed just before Ramadan…. because obviously it would be wrong to do it DURING Ramadan.
Poor, poor girls. Those who left us yesterday and those, scarred for life, having been present. And also the singer… (who I admit I had to google! ![]()
I was like “did I just read what I think I read” in the headlines so scary. over 22 people are thought to be dead. were you in England when I happened Vienna?
I saw that in the news too. Pretty messed up and sad.
Q8 – I wish mine wanted to cuddle. I literally had to call Wooly and coax him out tonight just so he would come take a treat from my hand. I’m just sitting there like an idiot holding a piece of apple. No big deal.
Oh gosh, I really don’t like going to the low cost clinic for my girl stuff. You never know who you will get. They have different nurse practitioners that rotate on a yearly basis. Anyway, I saw someone who knew nothing about my history. She said that stuff I had told them before was not in my chart. Well, I had to endure her going on and on about how I should be taking prenatal vitamins and calcium, etc. You know, because I should be “just in case”. It was just such an awkward conversation, so I just sort of smiled and nodded. :\
Sorry, TMI. I was just so bothered by the whole thing. Plus it was freaking hot in there! I thought I was dying!
@LBJ: Aw man, that’s really awkward indeed. That all so personal, I can totally understand that you’d want the same medical professional to see you every time. It’s not TMI as far as I’m concerned, I think we all understand. Plus, we all use the forum to vent now and then, it helps ![]()
My 4 month old’s liver tests came back. He’s showing improvement! Everything is still elevated though but not AS elevated. And his liver function was also showing improvement. They’re still worried about the AFP levels being high (that’s a tumor marker) but it isn’t AS high as it was so I’m hopeful this is coming to an end and it will continue to improve as he ages and his liver matures a bit more.
NBO, that’s lovely news!!!
That’s really some good news NBO! I hope he’ll get well soon!
Omg I’m so mad. My husband let the cat outside without realizing it! He’s never been out before and it’s about to storm and it’s 11 pm. I didn’t even realize he wasn’t inside unail now so he’s been out there for like 3 hours now and I looked everywhere. I’m so upset
Ellie – Well, I suppose it isn’t TMI. But I was pretty worked up. Now I’m worked up because they can’t seem to figure out my mail order pharmacy that I need to use for long term prescriptions. They didn’t know how to send a prescription in to them (even though they did it last year), so I called the mail order place to have them fax the clinic. Well, the mail order place didn’t have the correct information and sent the fax to the wrong place. *sigh* Why I things so complicated? It really shouldn’t be this hard.
NBO – The first thing is great! The second thing, no so much. I hope you’re kitty comes back soon! I remember my indoor only cat getting out at night and a thunderstorm was coming. He turned up early the next morning, meowing his head off on the front step. He looked like a drown rat, but was otherwise fine.
I ordered a new travel cage for Dory a few days ago for vet visits. It arrived today and seems pretty good. It’s like a little collapsible dog crate, but has a grate above the tray on the bottom. I attempted to lure her into it but it’s going to take time. I’m hoping to teach her to go into it first thing when she gets let out of her cage so that it’s easy to get her in for vet visits.
Woke at 4 this morning and saw him snoozing in the sun room out of the storm. He was a bit wet but not too bad. He was eager to come back inside. I’ve only had him like 3 weeks. He was inherited after my grandfather passed away so I was nervous he would’ve tried to go back to his old home. But I guess he knows we are hoke now.
NBO: Great news about your son’s test results! And I’m glad the kitty came back. Ours never go outside either, although one of them sometimes decides to run out if the door is open, she’ll go a few steps, then cower in fear and look back at us like we did this to her. ![]()
Yesterday was Mosby’s big day, he finally got neutered. He knew something was up yesterday morning. Unfortunately, his choice of hiding spot turned out to be a catastrophic mistake…
Our other cat hates him now, she keeps following him around the house, alternately smelling him and hissing at him. Poor guy, he doesn’t understand what he did wrong.
While he was at the vet, the hubby and I went to watch the new Alien movie. I was a bit disappointed. I was very excited about this one, but it just didn’t have that Alien feel.
No real spoilers ahead, but read at your own risk: The part that makes a good alien movie (the creepy part after it gets on board and sneaks around killing everyone) was maybe 10 minutes long, and even that was meh. The story didn’t make too much sense to me either, the robot’s initial actions/motivations were never explained. Maybe I’m just being too picky, the hubby didn’t think it was too bad.
Here’s Smokey. The trouble maker causing me stress! He was an outside cat for a few years but after coming to me he’s been inside. I just want to give it more time before letting him out because I’m a worry nut. Plus I don’t like the idea of him hunting and eating wild animals. lol But he’s the most friendliest cat I’ve ever met. I feel he’d walk up to just about anyone and they’d want to keep him

I’m getting frustrated with the rabbit group I’m in. They’re pressuring me to get another companion for Bam and making me feel like I’m not taking care of his needs by wanting to hold off. It’s making me upset and making me feel guilty. but I can’t do it yet. I just spent $600 on Sophie. I don’t have the funds to get another rabbit yet. I also need time to just grieve first.
NBO: Let them have opinions and then just do what you feel is right anyways. You don’t owe anyone any explanations, hon. (((hug)))
Hazel: Noooooooooo! I was really eager for this one.
Would watching it twice help, d’you think? lol
That’s bad NBO
I mean: it’s good to give advice and reasons for those arguments, but pressuring people and guilt-tripping them is really going too far.
It’s your choice when and whether to get another rabbit, and if you are still grieving that will have to run its proper course. Bam is probably grieving as well, and you’ll all need some time. It’s no use rushing things and it won’t help the bonding process as well.
I was completely shocked by the gift my BF gave me today, but also totally over the moon. He gave me a new graphics card for my birthday! O.O Yikes, I cried! I’d never dare ask for something so big!
My computer is 7 years old and I love RPG games like Morrowind, Skyrim and The Witcher series. My BF is very happy that I love games well. Sadly an upgrade was never in my budget, so it turned out that I couldn’t run the game he gifted me a year ago (Witcher 3). I had to travel to his student home to use his PC while he wasn’t home.
Last month a friend took a look into Bas’ trading folder of Magic the Gathering cards, and noticed that there were some really expensive rare cards in there. Bas didn’t know it at the time when he bought a series of MtG cards, but years later these cards were rare and highly sought after by players. It’s a bit like buying a comic book which turns out to have become a collectors’ item over the years. It didn’t make him very rich, but he got a neat price for them. He then decided to treat himself and me to a nice gift. He bought himself a chain mail for the LARP, and totally surprised me with a massive computer upgrade. Yay, I love a man who knows what a girl dreams of! ^_^
Squeee! You guys are the cutest couple (trio: sorry, Breintje) that I know. ![]()
Errrrr Happy birthday Ellie (?) !! ![]()
@Q8: awww, thank you ^_^
@Vienna: thank you! My birthday actually isn’t until June 13th, but Bas was too eager to give me the gift. He was so excited that he just couldn’t wait ![]()
happy b-day Ellie
early b-day
Thank you
It’s Bas’ birthday today, but he already got his gift two days ago when he gave me mine. My father and I are still scheming together to give him a really creative gift to use at a LARP: a medieval-style writing set. I already have the quill, calligraphy pen, ink and a handmade notebook with a leather cover embossed with leaves and vines. My father is still looking for a suitable box to put it all in.
Splendid planning on the side of the hospital: I’m getting an MRI on Bas’ birthday and he’ll have his wisdom teeth removed the day before my birthday. Guess it’s going to be cake through a straw… I’ll be getting my MRI scan around lunchtime. No idea what to expect, people are telling me all kinds of wild stories about claustrophobia attacks and noises like fireworks going off around you. Hoping that those are just wild tales, but we’ll see. The results will be in on thursday, so I’m really looking forward to that. Whatever results we get, I’ll be sent to the local rehabilitation centre, which I’ve previously been to for chronic pain management. Great place, excellent and experienced staff, so I’ll be in good hands.
Happy birthday to Bas! Sounds like you’re getting things done Ellie, you’ll have to let us know how things turn out. Oh and tell Bas it might not be so bad. I had a wisdom tooth pulled and I was eating solid foods that night. You couldn’t even really tell the next day went I had to teach a class.
OMG, I had such a bad anxiety attack at work today. Not fun at all. I just wanted to leave, but I couldn’t.

Noooooooooo! I was really eager for this one.Would watching it twice help, d’you think? lol
It might, but I’m sad to say that I wouldn’t pay to watch it again… Don’t let me ruin it for you though, maybe you’ll get more out of it than I did. I was kinda miffed to begin with because they left the light in the projector room on, which was totally distracting. The hubby eventually went and told them to turn it off. ![]()
Happy Birthday Ellie, sounds like you got a great present! I’m too technologically challenged to mess with computer gaming, I stick to consoles. Even I can make a game work with a PlayStation. ![]()
LBJ: Sorry you had a bad day at work, I hope you’re better now. ![]()
@LBJ10: sorry to hear about your anxiety attack, it sounds horrible! I hope people are understanding and supportive.
Well, it turns out that my dad was really exaggerating it all yesterday, thanks for getting me nervous again
He said that it would be very loud, and you’d be in a tube so tight that your nose almost touches the sides. He said that the sounds are like fireworks going off, so I got really scared. My mom, sister and I survived an explosion of a fireworks factory which literally blew our entire neighbourhood off the map, and I still get panic attacks on new year’s day and the days before it. GRRR, exaggerating things like that only made me expect panic attacks, and that gave me a really bad night. ![]()
The MRI went totally fine. It does make a lot of noise, but you get earplugs and headphones with a radio station of your choice. Luckily they had rock radio, even though you don’t hear much during the actual scanning intervals. The tunnel isn’t too narrow either, and you can see out of both ends. I had over a handspan of space on all sides. The scanning itself sounds like a washing machine that was badly loaded, some rythmic thumping and some whooping noises. They did two scans, each 20 minutes. I was a bit stiff afterwards because you have to lay very still and my muscles didn’t agree. The worst part of the exam was the fact that my nerves were acting on my bladder and I already had to go when I went into the machine. I lay there for 40 minutes looking forward to the moment I could hop off the table and go to the toilet
That was the only uncomfortable thing, much ado about nothing. In Dutch we have a saying which has a cute rhyme. It doesn’t translate well, but the gist of it is: “One does suffer most from the suffering which one fears.” Results will be in on thursday, looking forward to it. I want to hear if they found what’s been plaguing me for over 5 months now.
ok so you know how I broke my ankle in MARCH! well it is still hurting and I need to go for a MRI today. I’m really scared so if any one could tell me what is going to happen that would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Birthday Bas
lol just read your most recent post Ellie
Sorry to hear that Blue Moon, I hope they can see something and fix it. I hope it will all be as easy for you as well!
Because they’re going to scan your ankle, there may be a chance that you won’t even have to go in completely. I went in completely because they did a scan of my lumbal vertebrae and pelvis. I didn’t find it scarier than being in a waterslide tunnel at the pool. It is a bit narrower, but it didn’t feel very confined to me. They also gave me an alarm button and talked to me frequently during the exam.
Good luck to you and I hope you’ll be as relieved as I am.
I could have told you what it’s like Ellie (and Blue Moon too). You should have asked. I used to have them do all the time. I just don’t like the IV and dye. :p
Thanks guys. No one at work really knows about my anxiety attacks. I don’t tell people those things because I know they won’t understand. Particularly my one coworker. He means well, but he is just so…. how can I put this? Oblivious? It didn’t matter anyway. Everyone had left at that point anyway. I was upset by a lady I encountered while delivering flyers for our new program. She was very rude to me and pretty much ripped my head off. She did this in front of customers too. The whole incident just triggered an anxiety attack. It was so bad, I didn’t think I would make it the remaining 2 hours I needed to be at work.
I bet she has no idea of the impact her manner could have on people, Is she often that way, LBJ?
@ Ellie, fingers crossed you get some clarity soon and good treatment options.
@ Blue Moon, hope your scans go well too!
I have a question for dog knowledgeable folk!
As some of you know, I took on my sisters dog last year. He’s a small breed (tenterfield terrier) and is now 13. He really needs to lose some weight and I was wondering what is deemed good percentage of fat in their foods? His current feed 1/2 cup a day of a grain-free, 50% meat dry food that is 14% fat min
. Protein is 24%.(Honestly, i thought protein would be higher
)
He also gets a few spoonfuls of can food with that. And a Dentastix nightly treat.
I’ll be gradually reducing the quantity of his regular food for starters. Im also guilty of giving him treats when Im getting myself something to eat. He shadows me and looks at me with begging eyes….and I am weak!
So, the vet suggested some steamed veggies to round out his meals if he still seems hungry. Be great to have on hand for myself too!!
I had him at the vet on saturday after he vomited Fri night and got loose stools with bit of blood. He had an episode like this back in December too. This is going to be investigated further, but right now, he’s improved quite a bit. Doing chicken and rice for this week.
I mentioned to vet how life expectancy for this breed is 14 and I’d been reluctant to encourage to much weight loss at his age if it caused problems for his liver etc… but she has said they (small terriers I think) can live a lot longer and starting weight loss plan should not be a problem. I realize after the appt how much my occasional treats might have affected him, as she had said older dogs don’t process fatty foods well. So I’m much more aware now! As for his weight, he’s been over much of his life.
Jerseygirl, what is the food guideline on the bag? And what is his “goal weight”? My dogs ideal weight is 11 pounds and if I followed the guidelines on the bag for an 11 pound dog she’d get to 14 pounds so easily. Her guideline was 1/2-3/4 of a cup. She only needs 1/3! A day! So Def do a slow decrease of food to find your particular dogs food amount. Bit it sounds like he’s getting A LOT of food between thenkibble, canned, and treats :o. Same for my 28 pound dog. It says he needs 2 cups of day and when feeding 2 cups he got so overweight! He is only on 1 cup a day. My dogs don’t get treats ? they do get an occasional raw chicken neck for my small dog and turkey neck for my larger one to clean their teeth but that’s about it.
Also 50% meat based is pretty low so he’s probably getting quite a large amount of carbs from that food! I’d recommend instinct dog food. It’s 76 or 74% meat based ingredients.
14 % fat is normal in senior dog food. 23% protein is normal too. I give my dog a food that has a higher amount of protein, but this is debated. Protein and fat helps with the feeling of satiety – at least in humans, you can’t really ask dogs.
My dog gets veggies as snacks, because she likes them. It seems to make her feel less hungry. Again, can’t ask. Her favorites are all types of cabbage (kale, broccoli, cauliflower, white cabbage, purple, etc) and fennel. Cabbage type vegs can have a dampening effect on the thyroid though, so sometimes warnings are issued that too much cabbage type vegs can help make a dog (or person) fat. It’s all about dosage, as most things, in moderate amounts, cabbage is very healthy.
Diet is of course also an question of what the dog’s tummy can handle. Some dogs have very sensitive tummies. You’ll have to experiment a little like we do with the buns, add a bit of a veg, check output, cut back or change veg or add some more and so on =)
For veggie snacks my dog seems to like green beans lol
NBO, my dog like them too =) And asparagus!
Hunter likes carrot sticks. I think broccoli too but I’ll have to check in with my sister and BIL what were his faves. Or just try things as you suggest, bam. I stopped the carrot sticks because I’d been giving them the last time he got like this and I had psychologically associated them with it.
NBO, i had suspected the bag proportions would be generous, as the companies want us to go through their product quicker then restock, right??
It gives range of 100-150g (3.5 – 5.3oz) for dogs that are 5-10kg (11-22lb) then 100g (3.5oz) for dogs under 5kg (11lb). He’s getting 75g (2.6oz) a day, so already in the smallest dog range. But he also gets wet food. Ill have to look at portions of that.
He’s 9kg (around 20 pounds)but 7kg (15.5lb) would be healthier weight for him. The breed average is 5kg but he stands a bit taller then the average.
My sister is having her baby boy tomorrow.
I don’t think im going to sleep, so I wonder how she feels?! Though, it does sound as if her 2 yr old wore her out today so maybe she’ll get some decent sleep.
It will be lovely to have an itty bitty baby to hold again. That time seems to go so fast!
This will probably be my last neice/nephew (unless there’s some surprises down the track).
IIt’s my Birthday today so naturally I spent the gift vouchers I got on the bunnies immediately
I got them some more giant lego, some plastic linking rings and a few other plastic cup thingies. Buttercup is being extra sweet today, maybe she know it’s my birthday or she could sense I was ordering presents! ![]()
Jersey, I hope everything goes well and that she (and you!) get at least some sleep tonight
How exciting!!!
Jersey – I did not know this lady. She was a stranger to me. I was delivering flyers to businesses that were relevant for the program. She just happened to be the person there. The owner was nice to me though. People at all the other businesses were nice to me.
Just a passing thought with grain-free food… my dog would have explosive diarrhea if we fed her straight grain-free. The vet said this happens with some dogs and I did read something on it online. Our dog couldn’t have too much grain food though because she had developed problems with that. She would vomit a lot. So we mixed grain and grain-free and found a balance. Everything was fine on both ends.
Too many treats can definitely cause weight gain. Inactivity too. With regular food, sometimes we need to experiment with the feeding guidelines to find what works. Different dogs have different metabolisms and the recommended amounts may not match up.
Happy birthday Sarah!
Jersey: ooooooo “I’m so excited for you, i could jump over a dolls house” !!!!
(Older generation of Brits may smile at that phrase…..)
Sarah : Hoppy Birthday ![]()
Definitely exciting Jersey! I hope all of you can get some rest to prepare for this big day.
BTW: has anyone ever noticed something like this? We’ve noticed lately that sometimes Breintje won’t start to eat until we’re settling down for dinner as well. Breintje has been on a diet of pellets in the morning and veggies in the evening. He’ll dive onto the pellets like a maniac, but he eats his veggies a little bit at a time. He’ll finish them all, just not in one big sitting. Today we had a friend over for dinner, and to make things easier I gave Breintje his veggies before I started the final preparations on our food. But Breintje didn’t start to eat his veggies, not until 20 minutes later when we had settled down and were having dinner. Suddenly we also heard him munching underneath the table. So odd… Is it some kind of social behaviour that they prefer to eat in groups?
SG: Hoppy Birthday from me and the wookie!
Ellie: Chewie prefers to abandon his own sustenance to try to help me finish mine, and only afterwards does he go back to his own meal. He’s very thoughtful that way ![]()
Happy Birthday Sarah!! I hope you at least got yourself a little treat!
@ Ellie, I think it is a social time. Especially greens as that’s like the grazing food. Rabbit in colonies will come out together and graze and socialise, then go back into their groups. Very cute that Breintje came to have his salad with you all!
4So my BIL called just before. The baby boy and mum are doing well. He’s already feeding! I had posted that he was to be born tomorrow (c-section) but I realise I probably posted that after midnight. So I guess I meant today. He’s a big bub 8 1/2 pounds.
Congrats on the new arrival
Glad it went well
Computer question for you photo nerds. When you transfer loads of photos to a PC, i remember someone saying to me once you can rename them all at once with “holiday_2017” (ex) and then keep the order in which they were taken “holiday_2017_001” etc, rather than have the filenames the camera automatically gives them.
Anyone know how please?
![]()
If you have an older version of MS Office, you can do this in Microsoft Picture Manager. Chose ‘thumbnail view’, top left. Highlight all the pictures you want to rename, then select rename in the drop-down menu in task panel, top right of screen. You can then enter name and numbering details ![]()
I upload all pics to Flickr, automatically from my phone. Flickr arranges the pics by dates. It’s easy to make a holiday album, just drag and drop. Then you can share the link to the pic/album or download the pix you need onto your PC.
Congratulations Jersey and family!
@Q8: oh how thoughtful indeed!
Back to Jersey: that’s awesome, didn’t know that about wild rabbits. Funny that Breintje seems to be showing these instincts.
Ohhhh yes i like picture manager. I’ll try that, thanks GJ x
Well, since Chewie couldn’t be seen by the new exotics vet until Wednesday (curses! why must venerable vets retire?), Dr Mum decided to take matters into her own hands. So on Sunday afternoon, 48 hours after his right eye started watering and turned bright red, I started home treatment.
I couldn’t determine cause, but had a pretty good idea that it was either scratched by the stalky new bag of Oxbow Timothy or had reacted to a draft (he sometimes likes to sit by the fan in the bedroom when I have it on at night). I checked his teeth as best as I could with my otoscope and no spurs or other visible problems, and after a listen to his chest with a stethoscope I doubted a systemic infection. So I followed my hunch and for the first two days did eye baths with warm camomile tea mixed with a bit of iodine solution.
On Sunday afternoon I bribed my friendly neighbourhood chemist to sell me some antibiotic eye drops without a prescription, and last night we did a first application (I managed to abduct him – Chewie, not the chemist – and then walked him around in my arms for half an hour to prevent eye rubbing).
By this morning, his eye was looking better, but he cottoned on to my plans and made himself impossible to catch, so I opted to play dead on the floor until he came over to nose boop me, and squirted him in the eye with the drops
I got foot flicks and bunny butt, but now, 24 hours later, his eye looks awesomely normal again. Will continue to piss him off and then buy his forgiveness with a Bugle or something equally bad for another couple of days. ![]()
Haha, you cheated, no wonder you got the butt and foot flicks…
Q8- LOL cedric kind of does the same thing when I need to catch him to put him back in the cage.
I’m playing my flute in the marching band in the parade today (well not marching but playing my flute once the parade moves into the cemetery).
Great news. Great account of the events. Lol. Hey you know you should try writing for a living….. Lol ![]()
my MRI went ok but it was sooooo boring
Having had a few MRIs they really are very boring. It’s so hard to lie still that long!
Glad that it went okay Blue Moon! It’s quite boring indeed, but at least boring is better than scary ![]()
Trying to get Yumi and Peep to get along in the bathroom, and seeing as Yumi is inclined to come over and just groom me, I have decided to sit in the bath.
A housemate had used the bath to wash clothes (I cant fathom why) meaning there was water in the bottom-decided to just hunker down instead of getting my butt wet.
Yumi almost instanty decideds to see what Im up to by jumping in on top of me.
Bonding session ended early -wet human and (very grumpy) wet bun. (I think she blames me)
Pfff… buns are such divas ![]()
baby goats may be born today or maybe last night.
Wow got active in here since I last checked in. We celebrated ,y husband’s birthday yesterday and the weather was so cooperative so tried getting out with the kiddos. Bam joined us in the back yard and was doing lots of zoomies in the rabbit run. He enjoyed stretching those legs. He hadn’t been out in the run to eat grass since Sophie’s passing. I honestly didn’t think he’d enjoy it outside without her as he’s not a big fan of the outside. He’s too cautious unless sophie was there with him. But he enjoyed himself for a couple hours and then went in with everyone else and enjoyed a big Ole salad even though he filled up on lots of grass and dandelions lol
Aww, that’s good NBO. ![]()
I am quite excited because I am going to pick up my new girl Almond tomorrow!
I have her pen set up and a few more things to add tomorrow.

That is exciting! Nice set-up ![]()
Yay, congratulations on your new family member! Exciting indeed (we want pics!) ![]()
Had to ring the vet today to make an appointment for Yumi to get her injections (the joys)
I also wanted to get Peep looked at too (just precaution stuff)
So they needed to be registered into the system as neither of them have been there for treatment.
However Im already on the system because of Sampras- at least once a month for 9 months we had to call up to the clinic
I nearly burst into tears when she asked if I would be bringing Sampras in, followed by a “do you still have him?”
Managed to choke out a very feeble no.
Was weirdly horrible hearing her say she’d delete him from the system.
that is sad Dface hope all goes well with injections and checkup
