How to make a small fortune from a lumpy, bumpy unused field.
1 – Dig out 18 holes slightly bigger than a football, and paint the holes with white paint.
2 – Stick 18 cheap flags in the ground, one by each hole.
3 – Charge groups of teenagers £10 each to play footgolf with their friends, which they could do for free on the local beach ![]()
My husband was suddenly inspired to make chocolate pudding. He doesn’t do much baking and I’m simply reciting the recipe to him from my spot on the couch. I can’t say it sounds like it’s going well
Still, I’m sure it will taste good. ![]()
Azerane– LOL. ![]()
Ditto – how funny ! Can imagine the scene Azerane !
GJ – yes that’s a bit steep money wise…. they SHOULD go on the beach and call it beachfootgolf
I’ve got a “frisbee golf” near me, haven’t played yet ! Instead of a hole there is a ‘litter bin’ . Apparently it’s very a big sport in Nordic countries… bam?
It’s been a GORGEOUS day here today – sun shining, sky blue. Zou had a very loving moment earlier, she stayed with head in my lap (me on floor) behind the french Windows (haha in France!) for about 10 mins, just being ‘sent’ with nose rubs….. I thought she’d gone into a trance, until I stopped !! LOL
I have 3 days left of work before I have 10 days off – AND still no holiday plans !! It will be a surprise – even for me !! LOL
Vienna, there are frisbee golf in parks here. I’ve never played it. I don’t think it’s big here now, but I’m not sure. I’ve never seen anybpody actually play, but I’ve seen the litter-bins =)
I played frisbee golf once when I was in Florida. I can’t say we were very successful, lol. It’s actually quite difficult.
I’ve only heard of frisbee gold on Seinfeld.
May is shaping up to be nothing like April! April was freezing (20 degrees, snowy and hailing one day- yikes!) May is very sunny and summery so far. Today Chomondeley decided to welcome me by running in figure eights around my feet about ten times before he finally calmed down.
I’m such a lucky owner to be welcomed like that! ![]()
Great, now I want pudding… ![]()
Gina: Good idea! ![]()
Looks like my camera just broke.
It seems to be a common problem though, and Canon is supposed to fix it for free.
There is a frisbee golf course at a park here. It’s actually quite popular.
OMG, it was so cold and windy today. It was awful being outside. It’s supposed to be warmer starting tomorrow though. Hopefully this will be it for the cold weather.
My day was quite interesting today. I was woken up by Cash a 6am. She wanted out. After putting her back to bed, she started whining. I said I wasn’t going to feed her. She just kept whining. So I got up and picked her up to carry her into the kitchen… and she let out the loudest fart ever!!!! o_O
Then I went shopping and found the cutest top with bunnies on it at Kohl’s. It’s from Lauren Conrad’s Disney collection, but it’s just a simple white bunny print on the blue background.
Finally, my husband wanted to go look at fishing poles. We were debating which reel to get. He wanted the more expensive one, of course. For some reason, Scheels was feeling extra generous because they sold us a “combo” using the reel and rod he wanted because they were out of the type of rod he wanted in the actual combo sets. So we walked out of there with a $230 rod and reel for only $160. I was pretty happy.
Does anyone have any fun plans for May? Apparently I will be doing written comps. =\
We’ve got Thursday off for some mysterious reason (not that I’m complaining) so I’m spending my surprise three day weekend with the furballs – probably taking some proper photos of Hagrid and working on a connecting ramp so he can easily get from one hutch to the other.
Now I’m craving chocolate pudding too, and it’s only 7:20 in the morning.
P.S. We’ve unofficially hit 50 C this week. *sigh* It’s going to be a scorching summer…
Haha, is this where I say that the chocolate pudding was delicious? ![]()
Yes please. That way I can enjoy the pudding in my head. ![]()
Okay, maybe this is a cultural specific thing, but all this talk about pudding is making me think about how much I love homemade custard, when it’s hot off the stove.
My childhood favourites are Indian Sweets: Jelabi, Gulab Jamun, Laddu, Burfi, and Halwa (my Nan made the BEST Halwa).

Yes!! Hot custard, freshly made… so good. I’m not a fan of cold custard, or custard in pastries, but hot custard with some sort of dessert is just delicious.
I don’t enjoy cold custard, either. I honestly thought I was the only one who thought like this. Yep, hot custard over dessert is SO good. Also… I love sticky date pudding.
Kuwait has amazing sticky date pudding ![]()
Q8, if only you could sent it through the screen, like when Willy Wonka shrunk Mike TV into a million pieces… and of course, that bar of chocolate. Mmmm… chocolate….
Ok. I have to stop doing this to myself.
Q8 – Thursday is Ascension Thursday if that helps you – it’s a National Hol in France & Belgium too.
LBJ – I bet Cash felt much better after a squishy fart !!! Bit like babies with trapped wind – its not comfortable atall.
Cinny – Zou has been a bit bonkers too and exceedingly energetic for the past 2 days….. its very strange…. round and round and binky and round and round my head when I’m on all fours with her ! Out of character and poor cat gets charged head on (friendly’ly) each time she passes through the kitchen.
The Snooker final is on today, so its a day of pizza, chocolate, and long piggy cuddles.
Domino’s don’t care that it’s a bank holiday, and are still offing their working lunch large pizza with one topping for £4.99, which is nice and affordable
We are going to share one with garlic butter, and one with Sriracha sauce, which is a newcomer to our local Domino’s menu, and means I can share and stay meat free
Our chocolate supplies include Cadbury’s creme eggs, Malteser bar and praline shells. Piggies have tums full of freshly picked dandelion leaves, and buns are all snoozing after a morning outside.
I think we are all set ![]()
Vienna, Ascension Thursday is a national holiday here too. I had no idea it was called Ascension Thursday in English.
They have promised us awesome weather!
Ascension Thursday is the 40th day of Easter, followed by Whit Sunday, or Pentecost, 10 days later. Both are part of the Christan church’s liturgical calendar. In the UK, Whit Monday used to be a bank holiday that followed Whit Sunday, and like Easter, moved around from year to year. It was replaced with the secular late May bank holiday in 1965, meaning the UK gets a national holiday on the last Monday in May each year instead. What you find out using Google to pass the time waiting for the snooker to start!
When I started school, the May half term was still sometime referred to as Whitsun week, even if it didn’t include Whitsunday, but you never hear it called that now.
Bam – just to be clear – “Ascension Thursday” doesn’t mean anything to most normal UK people.
I only know of it because it’s a national hol here in France : “jeudi d’ascension”
So please don’t feel like your darn near perfect English knowledge let you down – because it’s not known knowledge !! LOL
Well well, Whit Sunday = Pentecost which must be the “lundi de pentecote” here !! What you find out reading BB !!
And snooker !! …. Ding is HUUUUGE in China ! And if he wins I can see the headlines tomorrow !! Ding a ling ling !! ![]()
Vienna, the other day I was actually wondedring what Ascension Thursday might be called in English. One of my spin class instructors tried to explain to an English speaking person why there’d not be the normal Thursday spinclass on Thursday. She tried to explain it by flapping her arms like a hen, because in this part of the country, Ascension Thursday is known as Christ flying. (The English speaking person at least understood that it meant some form of holiday.) Most Swedish people are not active worshippers, but this holiday is popular because it’s like a marker of spring.
LOL !!! Can just imagine it !!
How funny – making a cross sign probably on chest, then arms out pretending to be Christ on the cross, then flying away !!
Sounds like a Monty Python sketch !! ![]()
Just got our Summer water bill… I think I’m going to go and cry now, lol. That’s the only problem with this rental, I love large yards, but watering all the lawn to keep it from dying gets really pricey. Never mind.
Most people here wouldn’t know what Ascension Thursday is either, it’s not a bank holiday or anything, just a Christian one.
Are you allowed to catch rainwater Azerane?
I have no clue what you guys are talking about! LOL We don’t get another holiday until the end of May (Memorial Day).
Posted By LBJ10 on 5/02/2016 9:58 PM
Are you allowed to catch rainwater Azerane?
Yes but we’re renting so we really don’t have a way to do that, let alone catch enough to water the lawn over the entire summer. If I owned the place I’d definitely put in a big, fat rainwater tank ![]()
Vienna: LOL Definitely NOT the reason for our holiday. Kuwait is an Islamic country. Non-Muslim holidays are not observed nationally. But it’s very intersting to know nontheless (I grew up in a very secular household and am pretty clueless when it comes to the finer points of major religions, so I like picking up tidbits of knowledge along the way) ![]()
Oh yes, I know Kuwait is ! Just a bit – LOL. But I didn’t know if you were in an expat school or something like that….
In anycase with your logon name as it is I think of you each time I pass by a “Q8” petrol station….!!!
Azerane – my mates in Melbourne put everything on their grass to keep it slightly green, the washing machine evacuation pipe goes out there as does the dish water…. they’re in Bondi now… maybe they skim some off the sea ? LOL
D-5 for the Pet Shoooooooooow !!!! Just imagine the perfeeect birthday (yup 21 again !) : go to The Pet Show; get offered a job with animals; find a perfect rescue dog AND a soul mate for me !!! D-5 for my life to turn upside down (in a good way!) – YAY !!!!
![]()
LOL Makes sense. International schools here are governed by a local Ministry so no luck with Easter holiday stuff.
I wonder if it’s Kuwaiti petrol?? Either way, Chewie and I are chuffed to be thought of in chere France. ![]()
The other night we had a family night/gathering thing, and somebody (we know) started severely chocking. Luckily everything ended okay but it was super scary. It took the person who was giving him the heimlich maneuver like 4 pumps to get it out.
It was really a wake up call since I don’t know how to do the proper maneuvers to save anybody if they started choking. Definitely getting CPR certified soon (was going to anyway) just so I’d know how to do all that stuff.
I just found out there’s a Nigerian Dwarf Goat farm in the town my brother lives in. I think he’ll be getting a visit from me sometime soon ha ha
![]()
Sort of – it’s when I drive in Belgium – they’re everywhere…. I’m presuming its got something to do with Kuwait. LOL
Moxie – yes, that’s really scary. (It always reminds me of the end of the film *Mrs Doubtfire….LOL)
Whacking someone hard on the back between the shoulder blades with person bent over (to favour gravity) can be the simplest, first way of clearing a blockage, but only when they have a FULL blockage (ie person going blue and can’t even gasp a breath).
If someone is saying “i can’t breathe”, then actually they can. A bit.
If you then whack them on the back, you risk moving the blockage a bit, potentially making it a 100% blockage of air and then it’s much more serious…
In the event someone can’t be cleared ‘upwards’ by a Heimlich, then they will soon become unconscious from lack of air. You can then either blow hard and sharp into their mouth (sealed with your lips, so no gaps for air to escape) to try to send the blockage down into one of the lungs (like a human pea shooter
), – they can have foreign object removed by surgery but atleast they can breathe, or give them a thump on their front ribs to try to move the blockage horizontally….
Sooo glad it had a happy ending for you.
Good to know Vienna. ![]()
I think it’s a good idea to take a first aid class Moxie, especially if you’re babysitting. I’m glad your story had a happy ending.
Well, I tried to get some things done today. I wasn’t very successful, unfortunately. =\
Okay, so apparently grooming with a brush = bad. However, “grooming” with the vacuum hose = no big deal. o_O Weirdo.
Hahaha, LBJ10. That’s awesome ![]()
During moulting season that would be stupendous, I imagine. ![]()
LBJ – you talking abuot hubby again ? LOL
Zou is becoming increasingly and constantly excited… to the extreme of literally bowling the cat over when she goes to see her – dangerously so (for her size)
She oinks pretty much all the time now and when I’m on the floor with her, it’s like she hasn’t seen me for weeks and is literally all over me, and excessively licking too.
She’s just turned 2.
Has anyone else experienced this change in character in their bun ?- I’m not particularly worried, but it’s a huge change in character, obsessively so.
Hmmm… that is interesting. Thor is perhaps not as eager, but still circles, licks and oinks everyday. He has a routine, and I think we just get each others’ communication (like a signal). He is 2 years old, and has at times been almost relentless with grooming my face (maybe a control thing) but he does stop when I walk away, and then if I approach, we pick back up.
Does Zou stop, or does she follow you? Not that I’ve ever heard of what you’ve mentioned, but I was simply curious…
Well she doesn’t follow me because she doesn’t like walking on the tiles, but she calms down when I’m not in licking distance… but as you say, as soon as back close enough she’ll start up again….
She won’t like it when I’ll try to coax slash force slash coax voluntarily (slash force) her into a travel cage on Saturday…. maybe she’ll go off me !! LOL
Please send som vibes for Yohio. He’s not feeling well. Won’t eat, won’t move around. Today is a national holiday so it’s 10 hours til my vets open.
((((Yohio)))) Hope he will be OK ((((bam))))
Thank you G.J!
Oh no! Get well soon, Yohio!
Vienna, I have been guilty of pretending to pick up Thor so he would stop licking and circling me. Maybe the crate technique will do the trick!
((((Vibes))))!!!!!!
Oh no! I hope it’s nothing serious Bam. Get well soon Yohio.
No, it was me doing the vacuuming……. o_O I was vacuuming their room with the shop vac. Leopold wouldn’t move so I sucked him with the vacuum. He still didn’t move. So I thought, huh, maybe I can get some fur off of his rear. LOL
Oh no! ((((((Good vibes, handsome Yohio. Feel lots and lots better. ))))))
Oh NO!!! Not my Yohio??? Smothering him in kisses and a HUGE cuddle…. Love you Yohio! xo
Rediscovering how messy birds are. There is just so much poop! Definitely worse than owning a bunny, lol.
Thank you so much for the vibes for Yohio!!! It really means a lot!!! He’s at the vet, I’m scheduled to pick him up at 4.30 pm.
Get well Yohio!!!! – we’re all with you in force !! May the 4th be with you… oh no its the 6th….. :p
Any news on Yohio?
Continued (((((Vibes))))) for Yohio! <3 <3
AndHenry where have you been? You really need to come on more. ![]()
Thank for the vibes, he’s home now and he’s eaten wet dandelion greens so the vibes must’ve helped!!! AndHenri, Yohio says Thank You to his Aussie mommy! He’s sitting next to me in his carrier now, he’s been rather groggy but seems to be perking up now.
They burred his teeth but said what spurs there were, were barely noticeable, so they didn’t know if they were the cause. We’ll have to see.

Good to hear Bam! Keeping fingers, toes and paws crossed in our household for Yohio and sending healing vibes!
I’m feeling rather foolish at the moment. I was stretched out on my side on the wooly rug in front of the TV, and Chewie bounded over to say hi, all snow white tummy and twitchy nose.
He parked his little cotton tail right next to me and gave my nose and chin a few licks, and then with this infinite tenderness he spooned his chest into the bridge of my nose and rested his chin on my temple and just set there occasionally giving my hair a lick or two.
So silly old mummy was so overcome with love for him that I burst into tears, startling the poor little guy, who leaped over me and hid under the couch. Ho hum…
Q8, that is sooo precious. He loves you oodles and oodles, I’m sure. There’s nothing quite like affection from a furbaby! Sometimes I think they can read our minds.
Aww Q8, that’s just so adorable, he must really love you =) Tonight Yohio came and asked for pets by pushing his little head under my foot, it made me so happy, it just must mean he’s feeling better. Still very little poop though =(
Thank you so much GJ and BB for the continued healing vibes =)
It’s Mother’s Day.
We’re going out for breakfast, will be nice to catch up with my brother and nieces as well. Should be good ![]()
That’s great news, bam. I hope Yohio continues to mend and starts leaving you lots of beautiful presents in his potty. (((Yohio))) ![]()
We had Mother’s Day a day early because my mother-in-law was worried about the possibility of severe storms tomorrow. We were going to go to a state park for the day, but decided to do the Mother’s Day thing instead. I’m sort of glad we changed our plans. Early this afternoon, heavy smoke from Canada and Minnesota blew in, reducing visibility to less than a mile. The health department issued a health advisory saying the air quality was dangerous for everyone and to stay indoors. =\
Aww, Q8, that’s so adorable. I wish my buns loved me. LOL
Bam, I’m glad Yohio is doing better. ![]()
Q8, Yohio must’ve heard you, there were beautiful presents in the potty-box this morning!
LBJ, thank you! The Alberta wildfire has been on the news here and I just saw some pics from the devastation of Fort MacMurray, it’s just unreal.
yay for ((Yohio)) and his poopy presents
Every bunny parent knows that buns hate going on their back, while dogs are known to love having their tummies rubbed.
Piggies are divided into those who hate going on their back, like a sensible prey animal, and those who know dogs have it right, and tummy rubs are worth it![]()

I know and I’m sorry Moxie… I thought I had a busy year last year – NOPE! This year is overwhelming me and it’s only May! Good grief, LOL!
I’m excited to share that my daughter is getting married this year AND I’m having a BB member visit me – how cool is that!!! I’ve already had one BB member visit me, but this one is coming from America and staying with me for a whole week – EXCITED!!! And guess where I am taking her first??? Steve Irwin’s Aussie Zoo. FUN FUN! I will share photo’s, but it’s not for a couple of months yet. AND today is Henry’s ‘Happy I gotcha DAY’ – 3 years!!! Can you believe it’s been 3 years??? I’ve been breathing in FLUFF for 3 YEARS! Gasp!
Giving MORE kisses to Yohio…. just cause I love him and he’s MINE! I stole him FIRST! Back off everyone else!
Now, now, AndHenry, I’m sure we can manage a Yohio-smooching schedule.
Congrats to your DD – and how exciting about the BB visit! I can’t even convince my dad to fly down here and see me. lol
Congrats to your Daughter.
And Happy Mothers day to my 2 “BB mums” AndHenry and LongEaredLions.
I bought my mother a pretty light blue watering can for her garden, a bracelet set, a bag of Lindt Lindor chocolate truffles, and 2 Cactus plants that bloom in the spring.
I paid for it all but of course my siblings put their names on it. T.T =^/
Pffft! Sibs! My brother totally used to do that. lol Now he makes more than I do so he finally stopped poaching my awesome prezzies. ![]()
Ha ha ![]()
I’m so impatient when it comes to purchasing things online. ![]()
I ordered Moxie’s new food on Amazon with 2 day shipping. I ordered it Friday morning and they didn’t ship it out until 9:30 PM last night (saturday). And it won’t get here until Tuesday.
![]()
Bam, yes, I saw pictures too. It’s crazy. And SO far away, yet we had so much smoke yesterday. =\
Piggy belly!!! =D
ANDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *waves arms frantically* You need to chat with us more often, we miss you. By the way, you’re not allowed to take anyone to the zoo besides me. Remember? ![]()
*sigh* I hate it when I try to write and I get stuck on one sentence. It doesn’t matter what the sentence is. It doesn’t seem to help to try to skip to something else either. I’m just stuck. =\
WD40 always seems to help my writer’s block. ![]()
Really Q8? Sounds kinda messy. LOL
I’m back from London Pet Show (and not left to go anywhere on hols yet !)….. grrr.
Anyhoo, smaller than we thought, nice to go once, probably don’t need to return. I attempted a Willow Ball make – i’ll show photos in the photo section when i download piccies. Needless to say the Willow “ball” did not resemble anything like a ball at all !!
We saw THE Supervet Prof Fitzpatrick himself. Obviously a very intelligent, passionate man and one with well honed public talking skills…
We saw amazing bunny set ups ( in pics soon) ! Bunnies are very prominent now in the Pet Shows…. there were tshirts and hoodies with the saying “I’m not perfect but my bunnies are’ with 2 little bun bums…. i’ll post those in pics too.
AND a Golden Retriever display team to make my heart strings tug and be tugged again….
16 retrievers and their owners doing walking displays, walking to heal then being left in stars or square formations while owners walked around the ring. The dogs were just all perfect and gorgeous and not one bark or growl between them – they were so happy to be together.
So all I have to do now is decide where to go on hol tomorrow – head down to a little fishing village somewhere in Devon…. or fly out to somewhere warm….?
I’ll keep you posted !
![]()
Piggy belly! I can’t get over the cute little hands and feet they have!
Moxie, having ordered things online feels a bit like waiting for Santa when you were a child =)
Andi, Yohio sends so much love back and says he loves being stolen by you =) He also says congratulations to your daughter, and so do I. And I do envy the BBers who get to visit you, you’ll be having SO much fun =) =) =)
LBJ, I hope you’ll soon get unstuck!
Vienna, the pet show sounds lovely, there’s nothing here like it. There are rabbit shows and there’s always rabbit agility on those, so I’ve been to a few. I end up wanting to take all the buns home. Sometimes they sell very good hay though. I hope you’ll decide on a great place for your holiday. Devon must be beautiful.
It sounds like the Pet Show was a nice day, even if it was smaller than you expected. That happened to me with the one I went to last month as well, but it’s still a lot of fun seeing all the animals. I also think it’s really great to hear that the rabbits have a fairly prominent place. It’s great for education I think ![]()
Yes and good hay sold too (didn’t buy any!)
We listened to a talk on what you can forage in the wild for rabbits – I didn’t know certain things…
I didn’t know dock leaves are OK for buns but ONLY BEFORE their flowers appear – after which point they become poisonous to buns !!
BUTTERCUPS a definite no – (but rabbits are unlikely to chomp them anyway apparently)
Stinging NETTLES are OK (!) but only when DRIED, so are good to collect now as there are so many and dry them all out for winter.
Brambles of BLACKBERRIES and HAWTHORNE are OK too (Bunnies will not get injured by the thorns – they love roses too)
WILLOW and HAZEL trees (with no nuts on it yet) – I asked if weeping willows were ok too – she said yes !
Of course FRUIT TREES – and the normal herbs.
So hope that’s interesting to some of you out there

Piggy belly! I can’t get over the cute little hands and feet they have!
Rosette Belly! And those cute little paws have fiddly little claws that need to be clipped, as piggy claws grow in a curl, and curl right under if not clipped often enough…

And here’s a cutie piggie too …..

Random update, Moony is pretty darn huge! I thought lionheads were supposed to be around 3 lbs max? He is now nearly doubled in size since he was neutered, like the size of a small dog and still loves food so much. I’m just going to estimate him at 4 lbs, and he is 4 months old.
I was also wondering how to tell if a lionhead/long-furred bunny is overweight? I do not think Moony is overweight, because I can still feel his spine and shoulder bones pretty clearly. He is just a huge bunny.
Fiona: My fullgrown lionhead is 2kg (4.4lbs) on the nose. Not huge by bun standards, but not dangerously easy to lose either. Except for when he’s on the wool rugs, which he seems to disappear into, as some BBers have noticed.
Vienna: At this point, a quiet fishing village in Devon sounds fab – especially since you’re already on the island. ![]()

Fiona, Crysta was 2.5lbs, but she went upto 3.5lbs, however, she is 1 years old. The vet said something to the effect of, if you can feel the rabbits spine (like, properly feel it), that means the rabbit is underweight. I thought Thought Thor was portly at the time, but she felt his entire body, and said she’d wanted him to put on more weight. I was told that Crysta’s weight gain was normal because she was young, and apparently it’s very important for young bunnies to put on weight.

Podge is almost certainly part lion head, when we got him, he weighed 2.85 kg (6.3 lb), and at that, you couldn’t easily feel any bones, so probably somewhat overweight. He soon slimmed down, racing around and last time I weighed him he was 2.44 kg (5.4 lb) and I would say that is a nice weight for him.
I think, if you can feel their ribs, like pens in a soft pencil case, then that is a good sign. If you can look at his tummy from underneath when he is stood on four paws, or walking slowly, see if it curves up ever so slightly. This pic shows Podge’s nice under tum curve.

This chart might help too?

Vienna, I didn’t know they could eat dock leaves at all, great to know, there are loads here.
My nettles and docks have all been binned now
I’ll watch for the new ones and dry them though ![]()
GJ, nettles tend to reappear, you might say =) I pick nettles for the humans and make nettle-soup. It’s a traditional spring dish here, you probably have it too? My grandmother always made nettle soup. With egg-halves and whipped cream + horseradish. I’ve experiemented with drying nettles for the buns, but they were less than impressed.
Nope, never had nettle soup, and never plan to, I’ll save them for the buns and pigs when they grow back
they should at least be nice new tender shoots!
bam – My gran from Romania makes amazing nettle soup just the way you described it.
When I was little I’d refuse to eat it and my papi would sit at the table with me until I emptied my bowl. Now I love it and have it every time I go back to Romania to visit. ![]()
I’ve found a village (ish) but its soooo misty I can’t see the sea !!! Truth!!!! Lol.
I’ve left Zou with my parents but I’m a tad worried about her behaviour…. I’ve mentioned it before but she’s licking loads, nipping and even charging (attacking) territorially…. She’s just turned 2. Anyone think being neutered would help her behaviour?? ![]()
Oh, she’s not spayed? Hmm… well, I can say neutering calmed my boy down… and he had all those symptoms, except for the charging, which was here and there. But the constant licking was the one thing that really stayed.
Vienna, it could very well be hormonal swings. It does sound like it. Unspayed girls can spontaneously go in and out of heat. I honestly think you should consider getting her spayed by somebody really, seriously good. From what I have read, frequent and “heavy” hormonal episodes often preceed worse things like endometriosis, pyometra and even uterine cancer. These illnesses seem to be to a large part hormonally driven. uterine cancer in the doe
So silly about the mist. I hope it cleared up. I hope today will be a beautiful day.
Amazon UK are running a competition next week to find ‘The face of Amazon Pets’, if anyone in the UK is interested.
Whoever wins needs to be able to take their winning pet for a photo shoot in London, which sadly means I won’t be entering Podge!
Uhg, I’ve been having a rough day! It just seems like everything’s been adding up lately, and it’s getting frustrating. *Sigh*
I’ll have to use that chart on Moxie. You can’t tell if she’s overweight or not by looking at her because of all of her fur, so It can be difficult to figure out if she’s overweight or not! ![]()
GJ, why can’t you take Podge fo Londin for a photo-session? He’d win, that face is irresistible!
Moxie, I hope things soon will be less stressful.
I will of course do what is necessary if that is the reason. I hadn’t thought of hormonal reasons, I had thought it was something else that I had done to change her behaviour…
I will keep an eye out and do whatever is required asap… when I finish my hols in the mist of course LOL
Azerane – re photography, I am following your advice and have thrown the ‘auto’ out of the hypothetical windows and have turned the dial to Manual….. oh my lord!!!! LOL…. What FUN I am having… not !!!! Lol. I’m going crazy trying to work out a pattern of how to work out the triangle of exposure….phewieeeeee…. keeping at it for now…. ![]()
Thanks Bam. ![]()
Fear not Moxie. We’re here and you just concentrate on getting to 5000 posts !!!! LOL
Ha ha, I have less than 50 posts to go!
I’m ready for bed soon, today has been super stressful lol! And on top of that while I was at “work” (babysitting, I babysit for this family regularly, and I babysit several other families). Well I was changing this little girl’s diaper and *Somehow* she managed to urinate *ALL* over me. I was wet and stank like pee for 2 1/2 hours before I just got home and cleaned myself up. LOL.
![]()
You can find these things called peepee teepees online. They basically plop down on the baby’s bits and pieces during diaper changes to prevent power showers. lol
Hmm, that typically doesn’t happen with girls Moxie. You must be special. LOL
I don’t mind sharing Yohio with anyone – as long as NO one tries to steal him from ME! Giggle….
I know LBJ – I’m a horrible BBer! But I’m serious. Once I got over last year I thought I could take a breather this year – NOPE! Just when I think I’m done, I look around and find something else that needs doing or dealing with, *SIGH*!
I did want to ‘surprise’ you LBJ…. but I realised I’ll need your address, silly ME! Ha ha! But I planned to get you a little something when we visit Steve’s Australia Zoo and post it to you. And I promise to take lot’s of photo’s just for YOU! I know how much you’d love to visit Steve’s zoo. Hopefully I can make it that you feel like you are with us…..
Oh NO! Moxie has 3 posts to go and she will catch up to me…… GASP! Lol…
Actually…. the more I post, the more posts Moxie needs, ha ha ha! Make that 5 posts! LOL!
Sorry Moxie…. need to do your maths again… you are missing a zero. 50 will ‘only’ get you up to 4500….. LOL
I got home at 10 PM at night Vienna and had just cleaned up after being drenched in pee, give me some credit lol.
But you are right, I’ll only be at 4500 posts. ![]()
Andi, you really need to visit more often. Things are so much more fun when you’re around.
In fact, BB just isn’t the same without you! Aww, you’re so sweet. How do you want me to get it to you?
Moxie, it’s okay, I can’t count most days either.
Lol, yeah, not one of my finest moments.
I’m going to tour an Emu farm tomorrow, I think they are so cool, hopefully we’ll get to see some baby emus.
Andi, You MUST visit more often. I remember when we could get to over 40 pages in a chat in a month. Now we barely get past 20.
Remember all the good times we had? All the bunny-stealing threads? ![]()
Okay can I complain just a little?
Don’t feel obligated to read any of this, I just need to blow off some steam.
So it gets frustrating when people make snide comments about the amount of animals we have, like “It’s dumb to own more than an animal or two”, “You guys are crazy” “How can you even properly care for them?” Or I’ve gotten a couple horrified/Snobby looks, and have had people say we have too many animals, and it’s not normal.
But I’ve always personally felt that if you can pay for them all (including vet care/registration), provide proper, clean housing, love, affection and time to each of the animals, then you can have as many as you feel you should (which doesn’t include hoarding, because in those cases the person really can’t properly care for them). All our pets are up on vaccinations and registered, Cleo always has her meds and she’s actually being transferred to a home-made raw diet in hopes that will help her stomach issues, Moxie always has her hay, pellets, and veggies (she eats better than me ha ha). My sister’s bird is spoiled rotten with a giant cage and new toys all the time and fresh foods.None of our animals have known hunger as long as they’ve been with us. They’ve always been spoiled. I walk all of our dogs, and go hiking and swimming with them in the summer. They all have toys, clean water. We have money set aside just for pet related emergencies. They all live in the warm house. Moxie has her own AC for the summer, and will be getting her own humidifier and air purifier within the next couple weeks. Cleo just got a brand new cat tree that is so tall it anchors into the ceiling. I even buy one of the best brands of fish food online for my fish because I want them to have a good and healthy life too.
Most all of our animals are rescues from bad situations. The ”puppies” (no longer puppies I guess!) were beaten and starved to become fighting dogs, the person was getting kicked out so she offered them to my dad, who brought them home and we cleaned them up. My sister’s Cockateil was tortured by little kids and his cage was on the ground and the people’s dog would bark at the cage and the cat would sit on top scratching him and whenever he talked they would cover him and stop feeding/watering him, and the teen would hit him with his only toy he had because it was “funny” and because they “inherited him” (he’s had like 6 owners the poor guy) and didn’t want him anymore. Cleo was abandoned as a kitten in an apartment and was SUPER tiny and young, and kinda malnourished. If we hadn’t given them a loving home they would probably still be in those awful situations. All our pets are taken very well care of. Even our chickens. Plus there is ALWAYS somebody home.
So why judge people because of how many pets they have? (We have 4 dogs, 1 cat, 1 rabbit, 1 cockateil, 2 fish and chickens)
I’m sure it hurts, Moxie (and it’s unkind of others). But you know what? I think deep down inside those people are jealous of you and the connection you have with those animals. On the surface, they may respond snidely, but inside, most would wish they had what you have. Like you said, you can afford to look after them (which hoarders cannot because they also cannot take care of themselves properly). AND you also have more than one person in your house. Friends understand. Haters are simply jealous.
Aw, Moxie, don’t take their words to heart. They’re just Mr Magoos (nearsighted) jealous of Dr Doolittles (bighearted). Nuts to them, say I.
Haters are gonna be haters.
If people feel the need to make snide comments then they are the ones who have the problem, not you. I personally feel the number of pets don’t matter as long as you can afford them all and take care of them properly. I would love to have more pets, but I know it isn’t something we can do right now.
Really excited to see how things turn out with the Eclectus I rescued that we’re taking care of. Would love to find the owners, would love to keep it too if we don’t, but I know if we do keep it I won’t be able to afford to get a rabbit for a while. My plan was for that to happen in June, but if we keep the bird I can’t afford that too
I suppose it’s only been a week and it’s still quite likely the owner will turn up but it’s still a tough thing for me to face, when I’ve been struggling for some time not being able to afford a rabbit and I’ve been saving so well. At the very least, having any pet is really helping as I was struggling not having a pet for so long.
Anyway, enough of that. Was a beautiful day today and I’m looking forward to having the whole weekend off, only got one day last weekend.
Ha ha, you guys always say the right things.
Heading out to the Emu farm soon, can’t wait to see those majestic animals. ![]()
Azerane, that’s a tough one. I wouldn’t know what to do if I really had my heart set on getting a rabbit :/
Moxie, I’ve had a little experience with Emu’s, and they’re what I term, “The dumpster of the bird world”. They’re walking mops who will literally eat banana peels and rubbish right out of the bin/ trash. I think they’re harmless, but they’re also intimidatingly tall.
Moxie, I couldn’t agree more with what the others have already said. Your family seem perfectly wonderful. You give a great home to your animals, and as long as they are getting a great home and great care and lots of love, people have no business complaining about numbers. It’s not like you’re cramming 50 cats into a 2 bedroom apt =) =) =)
It was lots of fun visiting the farm. I’ll see what I can post for pictures without people’s faces in them. ![]()
Here are some (poor quality) pics from our adventure!![]()

Oh, they’re beautiful Moxie! Pic no 6 is just killing me! So cute!
![]()
I know, they were so adorable! I just wanted to take them all home, and they were so funny.
8)
I agree with bam. Pic 6 reminds me of the bird from Up. “Mother??”
OMG Moxie! I wanna hug them all!
She gave us tons of information, about their whole hatching process and how long it takes, how they record it, how many eggs they’ve laid this year and their success rate ect. We got to look at the adults and sit in there with the young (few months old, which are the small ones with a little bit of stripes) and hold the young 2 week old ones (very small one being held).
It was tons of fun, and I’m going to help them monitor the birds and guests in July when they have an open farm day. =]
That sounds like fun Moxie. So you’re volunteering then?
So……. Cash has been refusing to eat her food again. This went on for a couple of days until I broke down and cooked her some chicken. She readily snarfed all of that down, so I cooked some more. It has been a couple of days now and she is having mushy poop. I think it’s because the chicken is “grain-free”. She never did very well on a grain-free diet. It causes digestive upset with her. Now I’m don’t know what to do. She won’t eat anything besides chicken and treats. =\
Could you add some boiled veg just for fiber? Or some psyllium husk (isphagula)? It could help form the stools.
I boil vegs for my dog, but raw-food enthusiasts say to finely grind them instead. Dogs don’t take up whole pieces or raw veg very well (evident in their poop after).
LBJ- Kinda, but only when they specifically need help. (((Vibes))) for Cash!
Had a full english breakfast down on a pebble beach this morn with friends and dogs and a bit of sunshine… ohhhh nice life
(this is their life, I’m on holiday…..)
and soooo many people with socialised dogs. All happy to see each other…..so lovely….
(((Good tum, Cash)))
Vienna: Did I ever tell you that I always try to fly through Heathrow just so I can pack away a good English snaussage or two? ![]()
Bam, I could try some vegetables but I don’t know if she would eat it. I try to shred the chicken up as much as I can. We don’t have a blender. Well, we did, but it doesn’t work anymore.
Ugh, she woke me up this morning too because she had to pee. I let her out and then tried to go back to sleep. She came in the bedroom and apparently fell asleep, but she was kind of half snoring and half whining. It’s weird. But I hear it and I think she’s whining, but nope she’s asleep. *sigh*
LBJ, little darling Cash =(
I boil veg with meat of some type or my dog is not really interested in vegs – unless she can steal them from the bunnies (she even stole their dandelion greens the other day!). You don’t have to grind meat and boiled veg, dogs can digest it if it’s cooked. Don’t boil cabbage though, it gives the stock a bitter taste (same goes for making veggie stock for humans). My dog likes carrots and celery (sticks) and fennel and asparagus (canned) and beet root.
Vienna, it sounds lovely! We’ve had perfect, warm, sunny weather here for more than a week, but now it’s back to 10 C and a cold wind.
Hmm, I could cook some veggies in the chicken grease and see if that helps make her want to eat it. The nice thing about the premade food is that it had all that stuff added to it already. I don’t know why she suddenly doesn’t want to eat it. She was actually doing fairly well on it. *sigh*
As you can see, I’m doing a really good job of working on my first written comp question…. because here I am on BB. =\
Well, I’m happy that you’re here on BB =) But I do want you to do your written comp, honestly, because that’ll make you happy long term. I hope you can get back on to it after a little break.
My old dog too got weird food-preferences when she got old and sick, my vet just told me to give her whatever she wanted, because food is super-important and any food is better than no food.
Our car is broken *Sigh*, my Dad thinks it might be the timing belt(?) thing-a-ma-bobber. ![]()
Q8 – yes there are some ‘pretend’ sausages out there – had some this week… it’s lovely to eat a reeeeal sausage !!! (or two or three !!! LOL)
I’m back on the proper computer (not the phone) so will be able to get some photos on here – examples of how NOT to take manually exposed photos !! LOL
But here’s one for all you nature lovers …. ![]()
Little Robin Redbreast came to visit me when I was eating a toasted teacake outside a café – bless him !

So cute! I’ve never seen a bird quite like him before. =]

Our car is broken *Sigh*, my Dad thinks it might be the timing belt(?) thing-a-ma-bobber.![]()
My timing belt went last year just before Christmas, while I was driving. I lost power steering when it went but fortunately it went just before an entrance to a parking area so I manage to pull in there. It was a real pain, because when it goes they recommend not just to replace the belt, but some water thing behind it (that can crack or go out of whack when the belt goes apparently. I don’t remember the details but I asked around and people confirmed it for me). Also because it went while driving it completely ruined the mounting plate so that had to be replaced too. So in the end it was quite a bit of money and I had to borrow some from my mum just to cover it. I can’t remember how much it cost me because I paid part card, part cash and part visa gift card, lol. But from memory around $800 or maybe even more, up to $1100, I really don’t remember. Keeping in mind that’s Australian dollars.
Planning on letting the bird we rescued out of the cage today. Not sure how that’s going to go, but I’m in the process of bird proofing (it’s funny because we raised wires up to the walls for bunny proofing, and now that’s a problem because there’s one above the curtain rod which is a perfect bird perch). It could be an interesting time. I’m told that the bird will just wander back in to the cage when it’s hungry which is fair enough. I’m just hoping there’s no flying accidents or scary bird aggression ![]()
Moxie: the timing belt is a consumable but vital – your dad will probably want to have the water pump changed at the same time (metal is better than plastic btw) since they work together to keep your engine block working and if one fails you can permanently melt your engine
Vienna: gorgeous birdie! ![]()
European robins are different than American robins (completely different families too). That is a really cute picture Vienna. Was he looking for you to share with him?
Uh oh Azerane. I guess if we don’t hear from you we will know what happened.
Well, I was not very productive today at all. It’s a good thing this question wasn’t timed.
On the bright side, I did manage to trick Cash into eating some veggies with her chicken. We shall see if that helps any.

I believe American Robins are actually a thrush, and Australian robins are completely different again
We have about nine different genus of robins, not sure how many species, maybe 15 or so. All in the same family, Petroicidae.
Lol, actually it went pretty well. Didn’t take the bird long to climb out on top of the cage, and then it took a few minutes but I could tell when it was ready to fly somewhere peering around at everything. First flight was a little bit of trouble because it tried to land on the light fitting and couldn’t, then tried to recover by landing on the curtain rod but slipped off of that too and then ended up on the ground. After which it flew back to the top of the cage and squawked a bit
After that though it got the hang of it and did a few flights back and forth and a couple of return flights from the curtain rod. It wasn’t really out very long, maybe 20 minutes and it went back in to eat and then perched inside. I think flying in a new environment was probably quite taxing. Will let the bird out again tomorrow after work.
I just finished making pumpkin soup for dinner. First time I’ve ever made it and it turned out pretty decent. Very easy to make too.
Azerane – Yes, they are thrushes. I imagine that European settlers saw them and called them something they were familiar with based on the similar coloration. It’s that way with a lot of animals here. I’m sure it is in Australia too. Although looking at Australian robins, many of them don’t have any red/orange/rusty coloring on them.
It’s great to know it didn’t attack you and the out time was fairly uneventful.
Well, I woke up really late today (Sunday). I was really tires last night. I’m hoping to get to working on my comp question here soon, I’m just gonna have lunch first.
It’s a good thing this isn’t a timed one…
LBJ : Yes he was looking for a bit of my toasted teacake which I may just have dropped a bit of… LOL
Just watching Queenies birthday célébrations on the tele (THE Queen’s 90th). There’s something about the Canadian Mounties…..
Is it being shown anywhere else?
And does anyone know the Top Secret Swiss Drummers ? Just B.R.I.L.L.IA.N.T.
Check them out on youtube. They must be there.
This. Is. Torture.
No, I’m not done yet. I don’t know what I will do when I get one of those “write as much as you can in 24 hours” questions. ![]()
Our car is still broken *Sigh* and the more my dad is taking it apart, the more stuff he’s finding wrong with it ha ha.
So me and my mom are getting reading to walk to the hardware store (2 miles away) and then push a 50 pound bag of chicken food (uphill) back home. ![]()
Aww, Moxie. Sorry to hear that. ![]()
Moxie – do you have anything at all that ressembles something with wheels on – like a bike you could balance it on to take the bulk of the weight… or a wheelbarrow or a kids scoot…. or a THUMB to hitchhike home !!!!??!! Someone will help surely….?
I’m just back from hols and someBUN is VERY happy to be out of (big!) confined space and is weeing quite contently in her kitchen litter tray and chomping freshly scissorcut grass from my overgrown lawn !!! YAY !
Happy Zou ![]()
Somewhere, there is a post about bunnies watching tv. My youngest felt like watching an old Dr Who story tonight. Podge was really getting into it, and thumped loudly when we paused after two episodes, saving the other two for tomorrow night! Wonder will he watch the rest with us?
Pippi still thinks Star Wars is the best.
Podge is obviously hoping to be the next Doctor…. I can see him with a long colourful scarf around his neck and a wand (or whatever it is!) hidden under his belly !!!! It would be very cool to have a Tardis as a bunny condo !!! lol
Bam prefers Downton Abbey and Homeland.
Poor Yohio doesn’t get to watch TV, but he has helped me watch several episodes of Gossip Girl on my laptop.
Poor Moxie! You should have a little cart that the doggies could pull. Or a llama. (Yes, I’m making light of the situation. But it has a an adorable and picturesque air of Little House On The Prairie about it. Couldn’t that boy who came to give you your baby-sitter-money drive you and your mom
?)
Chewie looked grumpy after we watched only one episode of Parade’s End last night. I suspect he really likes BBC series. lol
Azerane! Bunny Basics is you? I totally watched your videos in preparation for adopting my furbaby. So great! ![]()

Had to re-read, a quick glance read the last line as ‘It would be cool to have a Tardis with a bunny companion!!! lol’ double lol
You do realise that if you gave a bun a Tardis condo, you would only ever see him or her again if they wanted you too, do you know how big those things are on the inside!
Well, all the Whovians should check out this link on a Tardis Cat House. I’m sure one could make something like this and attach it to the entry of a pen (ambitious, but not impossible):
http://icreatived.com/2014/04/tardis-cat-playhouse-diy.html/
Ah yes GJ, but I wld be her assistant and so would go with her on her tardis travels and fight off all the baddies and speak invented goaggoblaaagle languages!!!
“What fun” !
Luckily somebody stopped and gave us a ride. It was 30 degrees F out with 20 mph wind. It was freezing ha ha!
Our car is practically unfixable, so we’re junking it and buying a used truck and used car that are in decent condition with low miles.
Silver lining, Moxie. ![]()
Moxie, so glad you got a lift. 30 degrees F?! That’s cruel! Isn’t it unusual too, in the middle of May? We had 50 degrees F here today and I thought that’s cold. Had to get my winter jacket out again.
The Tardis house is just adorable.
Bam— Well it’s kinda unusual. Next week it should be in the upper 60’s F and might actually get to 71 F! ![]()
Yay for warm weather, Moxie! And for a truck and a car that works =)
Oh gosh bam, I am BIG on Homeland!!! I have to wait till the end of the year for the next Season… yep, HUGE fan! Actually, if I remember right, I think we both liked a lot of the same shows???
I’m hanging out for Orange is the New Black due in June… Ha ha!
Sorry for being short, but I haven’t been well since I posted last – bloody flu! Mostly wanted to let you know LBJ to give me your address via BB PM as my Messenger fails more than it works – I really am over it! And I know I can find it quickly and easily on BB. I am super excited!!! Though at the very moment my excitement is going to bed with a cup of tea – how sad is that.. for ME! Lol!
I will catch up soon…. happy bunny everyone!

![]()
Must. Squeeze. Bunny.
I’ll message you Andi. Your pm works now?
Wow, what a rotten day. =\
One fluffy bunny lounging on the bed
Should’ve used his potty but played instead
Mama came in and shook her head
No more bunnies pooping on my bed!
(To be fair, Chewie only left me one raisin as a relaxation present. lol)
Cheeky Chewie ![]()
Haha Q8!
Great poem, Q8!
I will poop upon your bed
And your bed–sheets I will shred
You can’t blame me, I’m a bunny
I’m loads of work but oh so cute and funny
Your poem caught me off guard for a second bam, I was like “Wait why is bam going to poop on Q8’s bed? Wait–ohhhhh” LOL
![]()
Hahahah! You guys crack me up. I sometimes read the “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” children’s book to Chewie, so that’s what inspired my little ditty. ![]()
Just got home from a fundraiser. This is the first time the event was held at a restaurant, but I was a bit disappointed since there were no places to sit and it was crazy crowded. Like you couldn’t even walk in there. The food was lacking and my husband and I left there unsatisfied so we picked something up on the way home. Is that bad?
Oh and and update too. I took Cash back to the vet. They think part of the problem may be her kidneys, which is no surprise considering her age. The vet says it can do weird things with their appetite, etc. They gave me the option to have a blood test done, but I decided to wait. I mean, if that is the problem (and it could be), then there isn’t anything that can really be done anyway. They sent me home with some antibiotics for her mouth and some prescription food to try. I know, I know, prescription food is horrible. BUT, I’m desperate for her to eat something. Anything. And, sure enough, she snarfed this new food down as if she is starving. Granted, she probably was a little bit since she hasn’t wanted to eat much chicken over the last few days.
The parrot we rescued is definitely very cheeky. Today I’ve had the bird out flying around so I could give the cage a scrub etc and then I went to make lunch. The parrot was on top of the bookcase and as soon as I put the chicken on my plate it flew straight down to the bench next to my plate and tried to grab some, lol. I had to distract with some seed in a bowl so I could simply make my lunch and eat it in peace.
(((Comforting vibes, Cash.)))
Moxie LOL!!!!! How awful!
Yohio will leave like one poop on my bed sometimes, but he will shred my bedlinen on a regular basis. I was just so taken with Q8’s poem. Ditty is a lovely word, reminds me of Out of Africa: “You must change your mournful ditty/ To a merry measure/ I will never come for pity/ I will come for pleasure”. Denys Finch-Hatton to K Blixen or if it was the other way around. Now I must see that movie again soon.
Dearest Cash. Prescription food is better than no food. And I do think people except kidney-prescription food from the general bashing of prescription foods.
That’s my favourite movie, Bam.
And I guess I’m lucky, because the little furball has never chewed linens etc. He prefers Mexican food. ![]()
(((((Vibes))))) for Cash!
hey there “abeautifulhope”… I see you !
Where you been ? Everything OK ?
I’ve just weighed Zou again…. she now weighs in at 6.5 kg… (gone up from 6) which makes 14.3 pounds !! ta daaaaaa !!!! ![]()
If you put Zou on one end of a see-saw, and Gina, Jenny and either of the boy bunnies on the other, she would be the one on the ground
Vienna: 6,5 kg of pure loveliness!
Hi abeautifulhope!
Just had a terrifying moment with our parrot. Hasn’t interacted with either of us before except to take food. Just now during out of cage time it flew over to the armrest where I was sitting and then climbed onto my lap. Knocked my hand with its beak once which scared me but didn’t hurt and then just explored my lap for a few minutes. It was very exciting and great progress, but terrifying all the same. Haha, quite an experience I must say. But it’s great to know we’re making progress.
Ha! Who would have thought that one could have lap time with a parrot? Although, I guess pirates used to have shoulder time with their birds…
Azerane, I remember reading that Macaws like to psych their owners out in the beginning of the relationship by lunging at them with their big beaks. If you don’t flinch, they know they can’t intimidate you (however, “teenhood” is crazy, I hear). Maybe it’s something similar with smaller birds… like a testing period…
I don’t know why the term “bird brain” has such a negative connotation. Birds are smart! My parents have my Princess Parakeet (Princess of Wales Parrot in the US) back home, and he is about 15 years old. He will live to approx 30 years of age, and loves to give kisses and whistle tunes. I also once had a cockteil that used to perch on the edge of my plate at dinner time (I was a teen, so nothing grossed me out then!), and eat my food. He would never poop on the table, but would politely walk around to everyone’s plates to survey what they all had. His name was Bailey. We lost him when someone left the front door open when I was not home, and I have never fully recovered from losing such a sweet bird on a very windy day.
Need vibes for my Favorite chicken “Crooked Beak”.
She got out and Zero got out at the same time.
She’s in stable condition, and we’re hoping we can prevent an infection from setting in.
(((Vibes brave chickie)))
((((Crooked Beak))))) I remember you told us about Crooked Beak. (That her beak was crooked.) Please get well, little chicken!
Yes, I remember telling you all about how she had the condition called “cross beak”, bam.
Crooked Beak (Her name was Daffodil, but for some reason it never stuck, and we just nicknamed her Crooked Beak) is the sweetest thing, I’m really upset this happened. I was away at the time and as soon as I got home I was told about it. This all happened yesterday evening.
I guess Zero was on his (LARGE) chain to use the bathroom and Crooked Beak escaped the run (she loves people). Zero got excited and managed to snap the chain in 2. Zero only bit her once and then ran off a little ways. Crooked beak mustered up all her strength and ran to my sister.
We bought a bunch of stuff to dress her wounds, and hopefully within a couple weeks she’ll be feeling normal. She is in a dog crate in the chicken coop so the other chickens don’t bully her. She is sadly in some pain and doesn’t want to walk (her legs are fine though), understandably. We aren’t ready to give up on her yet though.
I sat outside with her in the grass for about an hour this morning so she could get some fresh air and we could clean her up, and then I sat outside with her again for about another hour this evening so we could clean her up some more and she could get some more fresh air.
I’ll keep you all posted on her progress. ![]()
Poor baby, I hope the bite wasn’t too serious. ![]()
OK – so an overhead view of Zou makes me think she’s in the upper scale of belly-sticking-out-sideways (= overweight!)
Looks like the holidays has made us all put weight on !! The cat was gulping down her food too !!!
Now we’re all back – it’s time for me to eat dandelion leaves too !!!!
(boohoo)
Sorry, Vienna, not allowed. Dandelion leaves must be rationed for the bunnies’ exclusive consumption. ![]()

Piggies do not agree – its bad enough they have to share with four bunnies, when they were here first, and laid claim to ALL dandelions, which mum never remembers. Bunnies claiming exclusive dandelion rights is a totally unacceptable suggestion, even if bunnies can eat them faster (but only just)
I stand corrected, and rightly so. Bunnies and piggies, of course. ![]()
I smell like snake poop.
Ok. You can’t just drop that on us and then not explain. lol
Has anybody ever tried fried dandelion (flowers)? They’re pretty good. You dip ’em in your egg and then your flour/corn starch mix and then fry them in oil.
Obviously not that healthy for you though.
Q8 – I stopped by my old job today. My former co-worker asked me to hold someone while she cleaned the mess he made in his cage. Yep, he smelled. Ah, I miss those days.
Moxie – I’ve never heard of that. Interesting.
LOL Ok. Your explanation is so normal and tame compared to what my writer’s imagination had concocted. ![]()
LBJ– My Grandfather saw the recipe in the newspaper like 40 years ago and told me how to make them (like 7 years ago?). Ever since then I’ll make them once or twice in the summer. ![]()
Crooked Beak is still stable. We bought some Q-tips and have been swabbing out her wounds. We’ve been treating her with Hydrogen Peroxide (can’t use it too much though, and need to water it down or else it’ll be too strong), Neosporin, Blu Kote and Vetericyn. Any other suggestions on what else we could do to treat her injuries? Also, I think her middle toe is broken on her left foot, but it doesn’t seem to really bother her. I’m thinking about vet-wrapping it up for support.
Moxie: Poor Crooked Beak! Does it seem like she’s feeling any better yet? She’s so lucky to have you to take care of her. I don’t have any advice, but I’m sending lots of healing vibes for her.
I sent my camera to Canon to get fixed, there was a product advisory and the repair is supposed to be free, but they just gave me a quote for $160. Now I’m gonna have to call and argue with them about it, I reckon.
I’m sure they’ll do their best to avoid having to fix it for free.
Hazel– Sadly she doesn’t seem to be feeling much better. She is still not walking if she doesn’t have to. We’re hoping that if we keep it really clean and stuff she’ll be fine, as the bite itself is not going to be fatal, it’ll be if an infection sets in. Everyone we talk to just say something like “If she were ours, we’d be having soup that night.” T.T But good luck with your camera.
I really need to buy a new one, my other one is broken. ![]()
Haha Q8, you should know by now that there are a lot of weird things that are normal for me.
Oh Moxie, I’m sorry. Does she need birdie antibiotics?
LBJ– We were looking into it, but we can’t really find any (good/safe) antibiotics. We’re giving her special electrolytes and treats like scrambled eggs though. ![]()
Birds can be tricky, just like bunnies unfortunately. =\
OMG, you guys, I was seriously bawling a little bit ago. My husband was making me clean out the closet and get rid of some clothes. I went to put something in the closet and my watch got caught on my FAVORITE (and I mean all-time favorite) cardigan. It now has a big hole in it. I was crying so loudly, my husband said he thought I had found a dead bunny or something.
![]()
LBJ
Can’t you darn it?
Moxie, (((((Crooked Beak))))) please get well little girl!
Moxie – isn’t giving scramble eggs to a bird a bit… cruel??!! lol
Vienna – Birds eat eggs all the time, in the wild. It’s good nutrients for them. They tend to eat other birds as well… it seems weird to us, but it’s natural for them!
Moxie – I would call some farm vets and ask them if Baytril is OK. It’s safe in all the bird species I know of, but not sure about chickens. However, a good farm vet should know, even if you have to call out of your area to find one.
Vienna, Stickerbunny is right. There’s a lot of important nutrients in eggs (and other stuff!) that are important for a sick/injured/elderly/infant birds.
Some chickens will actually eat their eggs after they lay them. (but it’s a very bad habit for them to start, because you won’t get the eggs) ![]()

Now that’s what I call being self sufficient! ![]()
No luck with my camera, it’s not covered under the product advisory, our serial number is right after the cut off.
Do any of you guys know a little bit about dslrs? I’ve never had one, but nowadays you can get an entry level dslr for around $300, so I might do that. I would need one that does especially well in low light conditions, and with wriggly pets.
Mine (Nikon D5200) wasn’t that price, but the low light conditions are AMAZING !! I think I’ll need the flash but I force the flash to ‘off’, and it looks like midday !
But that’s all the magic of apertures and shutter speeds !!
I also have a Nikon D5200 and have to 2nd Vienna’s comment about the low light pics being amazing. My house is incredibly dark and the pics always come out looking like my house is full of light!
Bam I called a place today, they said they could look at it. The threads are broken and torn so I don’t know if they can fix it.
LBJ— well hopefully they’ll be able to fix it up for you! ![]()
Thanks Vienna and manic! Maybe I was a bit on the low side with $300. Looks like I could get a D5200 for about $450 or so. Which is still amazing, considering four years ago we paid almost that much for my point and shoot. Is the D5200 easy to use? I don’t want anything too fancy or complicated, I wouldn’t know how to work it anyway. ![]()
Moony is doing super well! He loves being pet on the head and will sit very still with his head raised. ;_; It’s so cute. I believe his raging hormones have finally died down. And it’s just been a little over a month since his neuter, I think! I have not tried picking him up again for a few weeks though, hopefully to build more trust… before trying to pick him up again haha. Doh.
Thought I would ask a quick question here… Since Moony was a biter for the couple days before his neuter, I have been paranoid to leave my hand in front of him when he comes running to sniff/bite/lick/whatever it is. But he very often runs over to my hands, or lifts his head up to try to reach my hands while I am petting him (I take my hands away LOL)
I’m wondering if there is a way to tell if he just wants to sniff or lick me, or if he wants to bite me/thinks my fingers are food?
Mmm… I’d risk a nipped finger since odds are he wants to lick or smell his hooman. ![]()
Fiona, great to hear he’s doing so well! They do like to lick their favorite hooman’s fingers and hands, and I think you’d see if he was being aggressive? Feed him first though, so he isn’t ravenous =)
LBJ, I hope it can be fixed!
Moxie, more vibes for (((((Crooked Beak)))))
OMG Leopold is so freaking adorable! I found him this morning laying on top of his grass mat, which he had placed on top of the vent. Apparently they vent wasn’t very comfortable, but he still wanted the air to blow on him. Silly bunny.
sounds like a wise and clever bunny
Yay for Leopold!
He probably has a PhD in bunnyland, clever chap.

Fiona, great to hear he’s doing so well! They do like to lick their favorite hooman’s fingers and hands, and I think you’d see if he was being aggressive? Feed him first though, so he isn’t ravenous =)
Eheh so I tentatively let him at my fingers when he lifted his head up again (after meals), and he starts to scrape his teeth on my skin? Feels like cautiously testing the area for a bite? LOL. I take my fingers away before he goes in for a harder bite, but is this normal for bunnies?
He doesn’t look aggressive at all, but at the same time, he acts like he is constantly itching to bite my fingers when he has a hold of them.
Fiona, I think he tested your fingers to check if it was edible. My buns do that sometimes, esp if I’ve just put on hand-lotion. If he’d wanted to bite you, he’d have bit you, he wouldn’t need to check the biteability of your fingers first =)
He’s young, and young bunnies are a bit like young dogs – they like to test things out with their teeth and mouths. A bunny can very well nip his human to get more pets or more treats and that can hurt, but it’s still not aggressive, it’s kind of instead of being able to speak. Humans don’t have protective fur, so a nip hurts. If he does that, squeal.
LBJ, Leopold, what a clever boy! Takes after his mommy! He must’ve looked so crazy cute =)
I agree, he was likely just testing. Wooly would do this when he was young. He would only put his teeth on my, not bite down.
Yes, Leopold is a very smart boy. If he wasn’t deaf, I’m sure he would be a pro at agility.
Crooked Beak has seemed a little more “perky” today I guess. She’s talking/pipping a little more and has decided that she should hobble away from us whenever she has the chance and put up a tiny bit more of a fight.
But that’s a good sign though. Tomorrow I will make some extra scrambled eggs and give her some as a treat, as a few days ago she barely wanted to eat or drink anything, so didn’t accept the offer. She’s still confined in the cage. I found the TINIEST egg a few feet from her cage, and I wonder if she layed it (and it was so tiny and weird because of what happened to her and what her body was going through) and it rolled out? I’ll try and post a pic of it compared to a quarter (Yup, it’s the size of a quarter!)
She still seems to like her fresh air times, (we clean her up twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening) and will pick at the grass and eat bugs.
I’ll keep you all updated on her. ![]()
Yaaay little chicken! ![]()
Naaww, Crooked Beak! It’s always a good sign when poorly pets have the energy to put up a bit of a fight! You go, girl!
LBJ, maybe his deafness has contributed to him being smart? Like a compensatory mechanism. We don’t have ac in apt buildings here (the need arises like three days every 10 years or so), but I want to see a bunny chill out on a vent. Please take pictures next time he does it =)
He always chills out on the vent. LOL This was the first time he tried to make himself more comfortable. He seemed displeased when I told him he couldn’t have that on top of the vent.
It’s soooo hot here. It’s only in the 80s F but it still feels so warm, considering the coldness we’ve had! I am ready to go swimming, although I hate Swimming season.
It’s the season of shaving and having your pale flabby legs exposed.
erhhhggg
Totally agree with ya on the heat! It was 85 earlier and it was still morning.
Did some shopping today. What do you guys think?
Bam – “3 days every 10 years” !! rofl !!!
Oh no LBJ… is that a trick question ? Or a ‘spot-which-finger-it’s-on’ question….???
So 1st answer is lovely.
And 2nd answer is…..? (gulp hesitation… have I misunderstood?) …. Congratulations !! (?)
Just booked flight to BERLIN for long weekend in June !! YAY !!
Anybody know it? Any clues or tips or favourite haunts ?
LBJ: Gorgeous! Looks like something elves might’ve made in Rivendell.
*dreamy sigh*
LBJ, beautiful!!
It’s beautiful LBJ. ![]()
All handling safety and diet issues aside, this bun video is darling. Squeee!

Aww, thanks guys! I’ve been eying it for awhile. The one in the picture has stones going all the way around. I’m ordering the one with stones going only half way. Two reasons: 1. You get the exact same look (on the side that matters) for much less $$ and 2. I would be afraid I would be hitting the stones on the bottom of the ring on things all the time (i.e. stones all the way around = less durable). So I don’t have it yet. I have to wait.
Vienna – If you want to congratulate me, that’s fine.
I’m getting it for our 10th anniversary. I wanted an anniversary ring, but not a traditional one I guess. I’m going to wear this one when I’m not wearing my engagement ring. I never got a wedding band because my ring was just so gorgeous by itself that I didn’t think it needed anything added to it. Now, I’m finding myself not wearing my ring every day because of stuff I’m doing at work, etc. So I’m hoping I won’t be afraid to wear this one to work. It has a MUCH lower profile, so I will be less likely to catch it on stuff.
Q8 – Haha! I didn’t even think of that!
Well 10 years is indeed to be celebrated !!!! Congratulations !
The only relationship I’ve ever had for 10 years is with my dog!!!! (Human family members don’t count !)
And at the rate I’m going I’ll be too old to arrive at 10 years with anyone !!! LOL
10 years, wow congrats!
I always love knowing how long people have been married, it’s awesome.
Thanks guys! I suppose 10 years is pretty special. We’ve been together much longer though.
We were going to do something special for our anniversary, but our plans were foiled a bit.
10 Years, congratulations
That’s wonderful.
My husband and I are approaching 10 years of being together this June. Only married for one year in August though ![]()
Congratulations LBJ, ten years! That’s just so great!!!
I’ve just discovered out on the Microsoft calculator (which is on every Windows computer under accessories) that you can calculate loan repayments etc (plus or minus) !!! Just need the length of loan, the percentage, and the amount and it will tell you in a click what your monthly payments would be !! Magic !!
Go have a look – it’s fun ! (or depressing… depending !!) it’s in a dropdown option !
The things we (or I…) discover each day ! LOL
Cool! I had no idea! ![]()
It’s been 8 days since Crooked Beak’s “Incident”. All bruising is gone (she had some bad bruises
) the swelling is gone (it was the size of a lemon on her back, poor baby), and she’s starting to walk better!
She still limps a bit, but that’s because of where one of the puncture wounds is located.
So far she still doesn’t look infected, and we’re hoping she’ll heal completely pretty soon.
She still has to be kept in the dog cage, because the risk of the other chickens bullying her or her getting bacteria in it are still much too high. It’s looking good! But thanks for all the vibes and I’ll keep you all posted on her progress! ![]()
So glad to hear Crooked Beak is doing better! I just helped a crow-baby that had fallen, probably trying to fly for the first time. Mama crow was VERY upset and voiced her concerns loudly as I climbed up on a ladder to put baby on the outhouse roof. If baby makes it, he’ll soon be harassing the songbirds.
But he was so cute and downy.
Yay Crooked Beak (sounds like a red Indian name!) !!
Yay bam the crow saver !
Zou is bonkers today – does the weather effect buns….?
I’ve never noticed before but she’s very tetchy, one minute soft and loving and the other nipping the cat with agression, poor puss! It’s very stormy rain here, lots of wind and hard (wet!) rain !
Of course it could still be her hormones…. since we got back from hol she’s been OK, but she’s started again. I wouldn’t hesitate a second if I though her ‘having the op’ would make a difference… but I’m not convinced…
Well, I just called vet (just to see)…. it will cost +/- 120 EUR (they’d have to check more precisely as they’re not used to a 6kg rabbit!! LOL)
And the lady I know there said that it will ‘almost guaranteed’ make the female’s personality be softer and less aggressive…
Ehm, hi guys. I was always kinda too shy to jump on this topic. But here goes nothing. ☺
LBJ congrats! That is truly wonderful.
Moxie ((((vibes)))) for Crooked Beak that is an awsome name!
And Vienna, well acording to Bianca and Redford weather knows to affect their mood. Being more lazy on the rainy days… etc.
Anyway I was busy last few weeks since fiancé and I got married last Sunday. It was beautiful but also qute busy since all of our friends got here from around the world. And oh my it just went too fast.
Redford and Bianca where staying at our vet house for a few days since the wedding was out in the nature and I didn’t have time as I would like for them. But I dressed them up before that and got their wedding photo lol. I’ll post it on a picture tread when I get. It’s nothing fancy but still. ☺
Congrats Niamian! Many happy years to the both of you!
<3
Thank you Moxie! ☺
CONGRATULATIONS NIAMIAN & other half !! That’s great !!! Enjoy !!!
LBJ and Niamian, congrats! ![]()
I finally picked my new camera, the hubby ordered it today. We decided to go with the Nikon D3300. Can’t wait to try it out!
Get ready for lots of pictures! Thanks manic and Vienna for pointing me in the right direction.
Vienna, spaying should really help with her mood!
Vienna: Spaying girl buns has many proven benefits (NB prevention of cancer).
Niamian: FELICITATIONS!
![]()
Niamian: Congrats to the both of you!
Relating to the crows- People have raised crows from babies and taught them to speak. Crows also can learn to recognize people by their face. I honestly really like crows.
Congrats Niamian! You should have told us earlier, we could have posted a big “congratulations” thread.
Oh gosh, I remember my wedding day. I remember everything being chaotic and it all went by so fast. I remember people telling me how beautiful everything was and I was like I guess so. LOL And they looked at me weird and I had to explain how worried I was about everything going well that I really didn’t have time to appreciate how beautiful it was.
Thanks guys, I’m super excited! It’s gonna be awhile. But I’m super excited. LOL
That’s great Moxie! I’m glad she’s going better.
Vienna – It isn’t a 100% sure thing, but most people see a huge improvement in behavior after a spay or neuter. Plus spaying girl bunnies has health advantages.
And Hazel, I don’t know much about cameras but I’m glad you found something you’re happy with. ![]()
Wow, congratulations Niamian!
That’s fantastic.
Hazel, should be a good camera. I use Canon myself but have a couple of friends who just love their Nikons.
Bird cage cleaning day today, though I really don’t have the energy. Very busy day at work has just worn me out. Our Eccy is busy down on the floor, vacuuming up crumbs that I obviously missed when sweeping yesterday… lol.
My youngest is 17 today ![]()

Years ago, he wanted a rabbit, so instead of spending out on the usual party and presents, the money paid for the various stuff needed for a little bun, and we adopted our first rabbit, Chelsey through the RSPCA.

And here they are, out in the garden, along with our rainbow piggies, Grace and Silky
.jpg)
Sweetness! ![]()
Hazel – how exciting – take lots of piccies !!!
I really can’t remember the difference between a D3300 and D5200 (maybe the swivel screen?) but from the outside they look identical !! Which lens did you get with it ?
I’ve booked Zou in on Thursday ! I’ll start another thread later to follow her progress.
Yes, health benefits definitely. I know. I know. I so so SO hope she’ll be calm enough to let me pick her up, but I’m not holding my breath…..
Thanks guys! I’m super excited! ![]()
Vienna: I think the main differences are things like the swivel screen, more modes, a more in depth menu and so on. Mostly stuff that I wouldn’t know how to use properly anyway. But the important parts like sensor size etc are more or less the same. I got the 18-55mm VR II lens kit. We’ll see how that does, I might get another lens with better aperture if needed (look at me acting like I know what I’m talking about
).
Moxie: I’m happy to hear Crooked Beak is doing better! She’s a tough little birdie! ![]()
LBJ: I forgot to mention it before, but your ring is beautiful!
Thank you all guys! ☺
It was beautiful and we even had it in forest but I didn’t bring bunnies because it would be a stress for them. But nonetheless I feel bit guilty about that.
I have a flu right now, husband is on a busines trip and Redford is in heavy moulting. I was amazed by myself just now that I somehow got out of the bad, got water for me and then gave Redford few strokes with the brush. Poor little guy, had to help at least a bit.
Things we do for our buns.
GJ that was a beautiful way to start bunny life long friendship. And gratz for a 17th birthday, that’s some serious number! ?
Gina.Jenny Awww
I’ll post a picture of Crooked Beak when I get my phone up and running, hopefully within the next day or two.
Wow, I can’t believe it’s been 56 days since I’ve been meat free! ![]()
No posts from “bunluv” for aaaages. ![]()
There are so many members who just disappear slowly. It’s so sad! ![]()
That sounds very fairy tale-like Niamian. I’m sure Redford and Bianca were happier to wait for you at home, though.
Get well soon, bun slave! ![]()
Checking in… hope everyone and everybun are doing well! (And little Crooked Beak!)
My job combined with helping to care for my grandmother has been keeping me very busy. It’s a part time job, but some weeks I still have to work 8 days straight! For less than 40 hours. lol I hate such long schedules without getting OT. I’ve got a friend coming to stay with me for a few days in June, all the way from England. I’m NOT telling my ex-spouse about that haha (it’s a guy… but not a romantic guy friend, just a platonic guy friend, but my ex wouldn’t understand the difference…)
Hi Stickerbunny! If you’re working retail, then I know exactly what you mean. Long shifts, but they can’t give you full-time hours.
Ugh, not a good day today. Found out that a really lovely couple I met overseas a few years ago passed away. They owned a local bird store (wild bird feeding, books, binoculars, bird homewares, kids nature stuff etc) near where I visited. They were always very nice to me, would happily chat birds with me and over summer ran free monthly bird walks, which on several occasions they offered me a ride to because I was unable to get there otherwise. So tragic to lose two very honest and wonderful people. I didn’t know them very well at all, but the news of their passing has struck quite a chord with me.
Just makes you realise that your otherwise normal day, is far from normal for many people.
Azerance – That’s what I always think now, when I’m stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident, or have to pull over to let an ambulance pass by.
I think “I’ll just be a bit late, but someone else’s day has possibly changed forever”.
Time and tide wait for no-one. Enjoy life my friends, enjoy, enjoy, ENJOY !!!

It is. Only job I have been able to get as of yet. I am still on the look out for full time positions though, with better (more predictable) schedules!
Yep, wacky hours. Working late one night, only to turn around and be there bright and early the next day. UGH! I feel your pain.
Heh, yeah, less than 12 hours between shifts = no fun ![]()
I remember being scheduled with about 7 hours between shifts during the holiday season. Store was open late and opened early in the morning.
