My vet has been out due to a family emergency so I took Maxine back to another vet in the practice who see’s rabbits as well to recheck her cyst on her mammary gland since I don’t know when my vet will be back.  This vet is a bit goofy but he’s nice.

He drained the cyst yesterday and decided to call a board certified specialist in Houston that he refers to sometimes for rabbits.  She was as stumped at this point as my vet since Maxine is spayed.  I guess these cysts just are not common for spayed females.  I know she is spayed because my other vet opened her up to spay her and said she was already spayed and these vets know each other so he knows the other vet is respected and he trusts her judgement.

So at this point we are just going to see if the cyst returns after he drained it and then go from there.

He also mentioned to me about laser therapy for her arthritis – is anyone familiar with this?  He knew I was trying accunpuncture and that I would be open to trying another treatment for her.  He said 6 sessions are about $300.00 which isn’t too bad considering how much I pay for the holsitic vet for each one-hour session is about $100.00.  He would have to borrow the machine though so I would have to give him notice on this – they may consider purchasing this machine but i guess at this point they want to see how practicle it would be for them to purchase it.

I haven’t heard back from the holistic vet yet since she was emailing a colleague about herbal medications for Maxine and she said it could be a few weeks before she got a reply.

          That sounds interesting.
If you would have spent that money on Maxine’s accupuncture anyway, and have to wait a few weeks for a change, then I think it might be worth a try doing the laser therapy.

Let us know how the laser therapy goes, I’ve never heard of that but lasers are really revolutionizing everything-I’d bet they do wonders!

I think it is great that you have options more than traditional medicine- like holistic and possible laser treatment.  I live in a pretty large area and would probably have to travel an hour for holistic and that is even if I could fine it.  I am visiting my Mom right now- and I am not even sure if a vet would spay or neuter a bunny in this area- or if they do it often enough for me to be comfortable with it.  It is a pretty rural area with a strong livestock mentality even for dogs and cats let alone exotic pets.

I hope the cyst is nothing to worry about- it sounds like if it is a cyst and not a mass that is good news I would think.  I have never heard of laser treatment for arthritis and would love to hear about it if it is something that you pursue.

Wow, I think rabbits must have a crystal ball that they consult before they pick their owners- Maxine and Pepe are so lucky to have “picked” you.  Not to mention all the other BinkyBunny owners that take awesome care of their bunnies.

Diatomaceous earth (fossil shell flour) is meant to be incredible for animals with Athritis. We sell it on our website, and have had hundreds of people send us positive testimonials about how it turned their pets life around within just weeks. I can send some to you if you would like. Free of charge of course, we are all friends here you can read some of the testimonials here: http://www.gotyapests.com/about.html

That’s interesting Kafrn – I’ve never heard of this. I am going to ask my vets if they have. I would not want to add anything to her treatment without consulting with my vets first.

Hahah totally katnip I was thinking something similar-how lucky they all are to have an owner willing to pay for and find treatment for what ails them

I’ve decided after talking to the technician who does this to try this for Maxine. It is a class 4 laser or a biochemical laser – the only risk that he said there could be is a possible sunburn in the affected areas if any.

He said that many of his patients see a result within the first treatment (not all but many) and that the treatments usually are 3 the first week, 2 the second and 1 the third. Much like the acupuncture. He said that from the patients that he has done 1 or 2 have not improved. Also after the initial treatments if the patient has improved you may not need to do treatments except for possibly every 4 or 6 weeks but it just depends on the patient.

So it looks like Monday will be our first treatment.

Sarita – wow! I am so eager to hear all about the results. I don’t think even my own rabbit savvy vet knows about this and if this is something new to her, I am sure she would love to know more about it. I am so hoping that this will help relieve Maxine!

Very best of luck to Maxine on Monday. Will be thinking of you and her.
                            This is really fascinating.

I’m very interested to hear how things go with Maxine – did they say what the lasers are supposed to do to help with the arthritis? Have you tried any kind of massaging for Maxine? The Rabbit Health in the 21st Century recommends massaging, so I was wondering if anything like T-Touch might be able to help. I’ve always wanted to go to a T-Touch seminar, so if you ever want to try it on Maxine let me know and I’ll learn with you! (if you don’t already know how – if you do then you’ll have to teach me )
