wow!!!
i was late feeding veggies this morning for a couple reasons. i cleaned out the pen b/c it’s garbage night (as usual) and the last thing i did was fix up their veggies. so a little bit late (bad bunny slave, i know!)
i was cleaning the cage (using the hand vac… another funny story to follow!) Mead was in the bunny room in the maze, Max was laying down in the living room under the coffee table. i brought the veggies in and, like i always do, said “DINNER” in my sing-song bunny/babytalk voice (you know you have one too…) ![]()
Meadow will sometimes respond to my call of ”dinner” and it is ALWAYS “dinner”, regardless of the time of day. anytime they get food, i call out dinner. up to this point Max has never really responded. he will sometimes *follow* Meadow if she responds, but it wasn’t an individual thing that he did. following me so far?
i say dinner a few times and Mead does not even peek her head outta the maze. not unusual for her, sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn’t. that’s a bunny diva for ya.
but… i glance down the hallway, and i see Max poking his head halfway out from the coffee table. i say dinner again. he crawls all the way out and looks in my direction. i say it a couple more times. he hops down the hallway, past me standing there holding the veggies, and into the pen. he then plopped his butt down right where the veggie spot is in anticipation.
i was so excited, i just had to share this with BB! only a bunny slave recognizes the importance of this. if i call my husband at work and tell him, i’ll get hung up on. ![]()
this makes me want to try clicking again.
aw yay!!! so far pepper only knows “Pepper!” and “Baby Bunny Boy!” and “RAISIN!” i think all food to him is a Raisin! lol! and its strange how the only word i say often that he wont recognize is NO!…or maybe he does and ignores it
If you try clicking again let me know how it goes! im skeptical with pepper. lol!
Awww how cool! Tucker only responds to “Tucker!!!!” which is usually when she’s exploring an area she knows she’s not supposed to lol. I yell that out and she starts scattering down off of whatever it was she was climbing on and goes and sits on her rug like “what? who me? no wasn’t me…I was right here..”
Wow – that is cool!
My little guys only respond to “cookie”.
I keep meaning to try clicker training – but forget.
thats sooo cool beka! sounds like max is a smarty pants
how long did you try the clicker training for? i seem to recall a thread you started about that. hmmm ![]()
i only did the clicker training with Meadow very briefly.
then we got Max.
then we were bonding.
then my summer was crazy.
then Michael was out of school so i couldn’t really get any quiet time to start again.
now he’s in school again, so hopefully i can do a little bit here and there. YAY!!!
lol. i know that story beka! that’s what happened to my bonding adventure between pinky & baby. first it was baby’s eye needing to heal… then i got a new job & wasn’t home as much… then i was in 2 weddings… then i needed to get quotes & arrange for a new furnace to be installed… and here i am with 2 unbonded buns! at least we have fun projects to look forward to right? never having a dull moment is a very good thing ![]()
That’s awesome!!
Little-Bit knows a word command too!
‘Be cute!’
And she DOES IT! ![]()
Frankie actually knows like 4 commands, I guess I just lucked out.
Beka, did you have a story about the hand vac?
Hey I’ve got my bun’s trained too! They are such smart little furballs. When I need them to get in thier cage I use a specific phrase w/ the same inflection in my voice- kinda singsongy- the exact same way every time and they know. At first they’d run everydirection BUT thier cage. Now I think they are resigned b/c they know that they are going in there one way or another. So I say it over and over again and follow them through the living room, down the hallway and right into their cages! Bunny wranglin’ at it’s finest!
I also whistle a certian way when I have treats. As soon as they hear me they’ll come tearing a** to where ever they think I am (sometimes they get confused-it’s so darn cute, especially Nibbles, her brain gets stuck in a particular spot and no matter how much I whistle, even if I’m really close, she can’t seem to find me until I stick the treat under her nose)
Bunnies are so smart!! The trick- I’ve found- is to repeat the command the EXACT same way every time.
Awww MAX learned a word! That’s so sweet
LOL If you called your hub at work you’d get hung up on!!
Too funny-me too!
Not only did he come to your call but he didn’t give you rabbitude for the ‘change in schedule’! Added bonus! Woe me – i’m in dog house today, i slept in and brekky was late!
i think that is one of the reasons why Meadow refused to come out of the maze. she was thinking… “oh sure! NOW you feed us!”
Word commands! If only Layla would recognise something I say…you’ve given me hope Beka!
Jerseygirl, I understand, I’ always in the dog house at the moment. Layla has suddenly decided that she will follow me like a puppy but also weave in and out of my feet so I kicked by accident last night when I got up in the dark and she was waiting so she’s super mad at me this morning. She did a Meadow & refused to come when I offered ‘peace food’.
I don’t need to use word commands. The treat bags make a certain noise and the buns are all up on their hind legs and tearing at the bars of their pens with their teeth.
I think the rex and mini-rex must be exceptional to training. I haven’t done a thing with Fiver except to let him out on my bed at night. He is totally restraining himself to just the area I lay the towel down on and will only binky there, (on command), he NEVER potties on the bed, always straight into his box and he totally relaxes right by his pen door and will go in and wait for any intruder to leave before he’ll come back out and snuggle with me.
Mimzy must ALWAYS be watched when out on the bed, as when he starts digging it’s time to go in the litterbox. But he won’t listen to me when I tell him to leave things alone and he’ll do a header right off the end if I don’t keep an eye on him.
Pip is too much of a diva to do anything she’s told, I’m not even going to waste my breath! >.< I am of the opinion that lionheads are distinctly non-subservient…what else would you expect of royalty??
I got her new litterboxes (she’d torn the sides off all her old ones) and she’s taken to tossing them in the middle of the night to show me how unhappy she is that these aren’t her ‘designer nommed’ ones.
LOL – i soo agree that if i called darren to tell him something like that he would hang up on me LOL!
what a clever bun you have! lovely story!
LOL. That’s awfully great…diva Meadow can’t be bothered to acknowledge you (I love how buns are like children sometimes…”I’m mad at you. I’m not eating. So there!”), and Max just wants his breakfast, please! “I’ll be mad later when my tummy is full!”
I’m personally of the opinion that Lizzy understands EVERY word I say…she just chooses what to acknowledge and what to turn her little nose up at!
Robbie thinks everything means “food”.
Except “Out” They both know “out”. Out means that the water-gods are about to spit on them (aka, the water-spray-bottle)! That’s when they do the cartoon-run, you know, where little legs go a million-miles-an-hour but the body goes nowhere? Bunny paws don’t have much traction on hardwood floors, and they KNOW hardwood floors are off-limits!
