hey, ive had max for about 2 months now and we’ve gotten along pretty well. Max is very sweet and outgoing, and usually loves getting pats, but recently I’ve been noticing that he’s been a little more aggressive. Max is a little over 3 months now so I’m not sure if it may be hormones kicking in, but he’s been nipping me a lot more lately. And not just attention nips, he’s been biting so hard he breaks skin sometimes. It’s really getting to me and I’m not sure what I can do, because I still have to wait to neuter him. Any help is greatly appreciated !

Hey! I think i sent you a message about this, what helped with me, i didn’t realize it was posted in the forum!  I’ll just quote it here.

Hey, i saw your profile and it said something about your bun biting more. I just wanted to say, my bunny would bite me a whole lot. Causing bruises and some broke the skin. The thing that helped was yelping loudly, kind of like a short but high pitched “Eeek!”. It drove my family crazy, but he stopped! Although, it probably is just hormones with yours. Mine learned how to stop unnecessarily biting a month after he was neutered and all the hormones were gone. Hope it gets better!

Most bunnies change once they start to hit puberty. If Max is the bunny in your profile picture, then 3 months sounds like the onset of puberty since he looks like a dwarf (small breeds tend to mature faster than big breeds on average). So it’s not surprising if his personality is starting to change.

Baby bunnies are all sweet and loving, don’t mind pats or being cuddled etc. But some may actually not like them once they are grown. It could be that Max is starting to feel otherwise about being patted, which is why the biting has started. While you wait to neuter him, maybe you could pull back the reigns a little and consider other ways of bonding on his terms. For example, try cutting back on the pats if it’s these that normally trigger him.

For me, picking Onyx up when i had to give him medicine or butt baths was his biggest trigger. Sometimes we would just be snuggling and out of no where he would wake up and chomp down.

If you haven’t already, try bonding with him some more. Just sit or lay down on the ground in an area with him for an hour or however long you can, and don’t pay any attention to him. It can’t hurt. By the way, Max is super cute!

I think its just puberty, my bun sometimes attention nips but she is older now, Neutering him should take away some destructive and annoying behaviors, Hope he stops soon!
