        Dono passed with flying colors.

Maryann is now 7 years old, so she had some blood taken for bloodwork to check up on all of the body functions.  Also, her heels were a little bare and red but the doctor didn’t think it was in a danger area.  She said just to keep an eye on it.  She also had a bit of a low temperature but everything seemed fine.

Fitzgerald apparently was the least nervous of the buns with his low heart rate and respiration – couldn’t believe it.  However, he is about 2 pounds overweight.  He put on 2.5 pounds in 4 months.  So now it is going to try and wrangle my girlfriend into even tighter dietary habits.

Wow two pounds overweight? Heheh you’re girl must be getting sucked into too many treats! We all know how hard it is to turn them down though!

          Sounds like everything went well!!

Wow, I didn’t realize Maryann was 7!    Good to hear they ‘survived’ their yearly.

Can buns put on weight for any other reason? I’m not implying Fitzgerald may have other health issue, your post just made me ask myself this question.

            Anyone know?

Buns put on weight the same reason we do. Bad diet, lack of exercise, etc. I”m not aware of any special health issue that causes them to chunk up.

When her other bun went in for her spay, the doctor actually did a little bit of “Bunny Lipo” because one of the fat pads were surrounding the uterus and they showed it to me. Once I got over my bout of queeziness that I get whenever I see ANY internal organ type stuff, I was SHOCKED by the size of it. It was literally 4″x4″x1/2″ in size!

If my girlfriend doesn’t find a new place by the end of this week, she’ll be moving back east to continue her doctorate (don’t ask about this – it’s been insane even for ME to follow it) and she’ll need someone to babysit her bun for a month while she gets settled. During that time, I’m going to put Fitz through a bunny ‘fat camp’ and see if I can’t get him to shed a pound in a month, as well as get him accostumed to a new diet routine.

Well Maryann’s and Fitz’s tests came back. He’s negative for whatever that disease is with all the ‘c’ in it. Maryann however has a slightly elevated something or other that helps to determine liver function – in other words it isn’t working as hard/much as it should. Now it is possible that this is a natural level for my gal (as her normal temp is actually 2 degrees lower than normal) but I needta bring her back in 3 months to try again.

It’s really wierd. I’m not worried. After hearing the news I realized that, although it would be upsetting, I’m okey with Maryann heading over the Rainbow Bridge. She’s having a terrific life, will have lived much more fully and longer than she would have on Alameda Beach where she was picked up and I would then be able to go to the rescue and find another bunny who’s in need of a forever home.

It’s not like I”m bored with her or want another rabbit. Don’t get me wrong, I love the lil terror and every day she does something else to endear herself to me and I hope and pray that she will be around for many more years to come. Heck, Dono just got her where he wants her! But I feel… I dunno… content in my outlook of this all.

i understand your feelings about that Markus. we are all aware that while bunnies can have long lifespans, there’s no guarantee they will live the full 12-15 years. you have to make every day count with pets. they won’t be around forever, but then like you said, you can always open your home to another.

on the other hand, Maryann will probably outlive us all. BinkBunny will need to teach her how to admin on BB b/c she’ll be the only one left.

Like you said, could just be this is normal for Maryann. Certainly get’s you thinking though. Yesterday I was thinking along those lines myself, about when they’re gone. Was going to post about it in lounge but didn’t want to put a downer vibe in there at the moment. Plus I’m since avoiding the subject! One thing I found curious was I was more particular about what I wanted for Jerseys resting place than what I would want for myself!

The only thing I can think of that would be elevated in the liver would be bilirubin. This is what usually causes jaundice, and a yellowed color would be present on the mucous membranes. I know because 1 week after my daughter was born, she turned yellow and the doc said her bilirubin was high. Meaning the liver had sustained some shock to it during birth and it wasn’t at optimal function.
I will keep Maryann in my prayers. I do know how you feel about the possibility of the Rainbow Bridge for your bun, or any dear pet we may have. At some point you come to an agreement with that part of life and it makes more sense to one to look upon it with more acceptance than railing against it. But let’s hope your dear diva bun has many more healthy years ahead of her yet!
I also had no idea she was 7! Wow, I am having a hard time imagining any of my buns at that age! I can’t even see the next seven years for myself let alone my pets!
