Sterling (in memory of), Bindi, Buttercup, Apollo, Bianca, Nimbus, Chewie, Reese’s chest fluff, Henry’s tummy, Podge, Wicks little nose dot, all the white parts of Elara.

(This is a Binky Bunny chat-thread tradition: On the first day of a new month we say the names of (at least) 3 white or partially white buns. Just saying “White rabbit” three times is fine, if you don’t know any white or partially white rabbits.)

You know what, I just realized…Easter is also April Fool’s Day this year. If anyone of you who is a churchgoer has a pastor prone to playing pranks, you might want to take particular care on that day.

Sterling, Bindi, Asriel’s tummy, Buttercup, Wick’s snoot!

those little buns are so precious!
Joe: I’ve seen so many people from my church mention that since Ash Wednesday. JK… Jesus is still dead. no need for easter here. xD

Hubs and I just booked our first vacation since our honeymoon a year and a half ago! We’ve been so busy between his job, my grad school and job, and of course our little buns (who are almost a year old!). We’re going to the white sandy beaches of The Bahamas! We’re staying at Atlantis in the cheapest room, because obviously I won’t be able to afford anything else until I’m tenured xD We leave May 8th and return May 15th. I’m beyond excited, but surprisingly sad about leaving my boys. They’ll be staying with a lionhead and holland lop breeder, so I know they’ll be fine. I’ve just haven’t spent any nights away from them since we got them last May.

                      Spaghetti, Squash, Fruity Pebbles.

I would really like to know why the shelter names their bunnies after food.

This one’s for Sterling, Sterling, Sterling.

A&B, I thought your boys were going to the bonder while you were away? or is the bonder a separate excursion? Either way, a beach holiday sounds perfect!

I’m planning a holiday all the way over to you Stateside friends We’re planning a two week trip through California. Any California BBers with must-sees?

Fingers crossed it happens at the same time! The bonder has had her hands full with fosters since December. I was told to check back at the end of April, so I’m hoping they go to her, and when I’m back I’ll have pair.

LBJ, itches! I think I must’ve read it like aches. You don’t take any statins do you? They can cause severe itching.

Effi (dog) is having another episode of not being able to stand on her legs right now. I was hoping to get a spot on the 4-hour Wasaloppspinn class this morning, good thing I didn’t.

Azerane, from the February chat: I hope the pigeon flew home.

I’m sorry to hear that Effie has taken another bad turn. I hope she can recover again, I forget what the vet gave her last time.

Effi came around after about 1.5 h this time. She’s on antiinflammatory meds, not much else to do. We have epare for the worst but I don’t know how you do that

Oh bam – its so hard, cos when our animals are OK, they’re OK…
And no, you can’t prepare – although I read about a couple who had a ‘bucket list’ for their Rottweiler whose months were counted due to cancer.
He got to have an icecream on the beach front. He got to sit in a police car. He got to go on a fire engine and such things…..
It took the humans minds off of the inevitable. The dog of course, was no wiser….

Vienna, that’s a lovely silly idea, the bucket list thing The dog must’ve felt so loved, everybody fussing over him ❤️️

We took a nice walk in the woods this afternoon and she seemed very happy.

Azerane, you must let us see your needle felt work when you’ve started to get the hang of it! I wonder if I could use Bam’s hair for felting, I have a (small-ish) bag full of it. It’s too short to be spun.

@bam, sorry I’m so bad at keeping up with the chat threads… What’s Effie’s problem? My boss has a veeery old Labrador with bad problems to his hips and joints in general, but they managed to get him going again with acupuncture and physiotherapy in a special dog pool-threadmill thanks to a specialized vet.

I’m keeping also all of K’s wool aside for future felt needling… I just miss the needles. Keep forgetting lol

My Effi is a German shepherd.

It’s not an easy task, to keep up with the monthly chat threads =D Effi fell ill in early June last year. One morning she just couldn’t stand up. Now this has happened 4 times in total. She’s been thouroughly examined, has ad a CT scan of her back and hips and the problem seems to be centered around the L/-S1 joint. She gets antiinflammatory meds every day and laser treatment at least once a week. She’s also done water treadmilling 10 times. She’s 9,5 years old. Between episodes she mostly seems as happy and active as ever.

                                                            Here’s a picture from yesterday’s walk:

We think she was trying to communicate something about the cinnamon rolls the humans were having.

                                                            LBJ, why not Zyxal?

Well, yeah acupuncture won’t do the cut if she has a discopathy :/ I’m a total ignorant about dogs, as I’ve stated before, but in humans with low spinal problems we use walking aids to keep them up and balanced. Maybe in bad moments she can have one of those walking slings? So that with some help she can still get around and do her business? But then maybe it would be stressing?
                                                              Again, sorry, so ignorant.

She seems in dare need for yummy things though Is baking a dog cake together on her to do list?

You guys with your puppers <3 I've always wanted a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. They're so playful and adorable. I just love their nature and energy. Every time I'm at the mall I have to see if the pet store has any. I practically cry when I have to give them back xD I always wonder how the boys would react to me bringing a pupper home. They were around two large breeds at the breeder's, and seemed to love the dogs. Yet, we live above people with three pugs, and whenever I forget to wash my hands after petting them, Asriel will let out a great big THUMP! So I'm curious to see how that would play out. Bombur thinks everything is a friend, so he'd be fine xD

Effi is absolutely gorgeous ^_^ I hope the episode will go away quickly!

Sorry about not posting for a while, my rheumatism has been acting up for the last week or so. Haven’t been able to get much sleep because of the pain, luckily I have a fysio apt. early tomorrow. On the upside: Breintje and I may have prevented a large bike theft this weekend. In NL it’s not uncommon for thieves to break into the bicycle storage of an apartment complex and steal every resident’s bike. It happened to me before in a student housing building: they loaded up all the bikes in a large van and were off within minutes.
It happened in the night from Saturday to Sunday. Bas is an early bird while I prefer to stay up late, so I usually go to bed 1-2 hours later than him. I often spend that time reading or knitting and having a massive cuddle with Breintje. Last Saturday we took our time because I couldn’t sleep anyway. At a quarter past 3 Breintje suddenly flew up, whites of his eyes showing, ears up, shaking and thumping like mad. I’d never seen him so scared!

He occasionally gets a bit nervous when there’s a cat skulking around, so I grabbed the flashlight which I keep near my back door and went out on a search. I searched the gardens and the indoor bicycle storage, but I didn’t find anything out of the ordinary. I hopped back indoors again to check on Breintje, but he was still wild with fear. I put him in his hutch and decided to do a larger search of the building. When I checked the outdoor bicycle storage I noticed that the entire lock was missing: the cylinder and the casing had both been removed

We have a neighbourhood-watch Whatsapp group, and I decided to put a text out a couple of hours later (at a more appropriate time). Nobody had noticed anything strange about the door before that night, so we’re pretty certain something must have happened that night. The hallway to the indoor storage can be seen from the car park, so my flashlight shining may have warned off any thieves. I hope the lock will be replaced soon, that was the 6th burglary attempt within a year. 3 home invasions and 3 attempts on the bicycle storages

I’m so extremely worried guys. I think Rain’s a girl. The dewlap is really developing, and then I lifted his tail (he was flopped, and he let me lift his tail gently so I could look at his parts. Or her parts.) and I think it’s a girl. The problem with a girl is spaying her! I don’t want to do it. Even though I know I have to and I will. I’m worried because they literally shave the belly and cut it open! And remove the parts. I saw pictures on a website. It looks so sad and horrible with the rabbit just laying there. I don’t want to cause such a tiny tiny innocent creature so much pain! I know that tons of rabbits have gone through the surgery and been fine, but I’m still terribly scared that something bad will happen to Rain. Atleast with a neuter it isn’t so invasive and it’s easier on the bun. But for girls… How did you all go through this?

I’m sorry your girl is still having episodes. Things can just get weird and unexplained as dogs grow older. I know Cash had a lot of unexplained problems. One of her wrists, for example, was deteriorating very fast. They vet was completely stumped, did tons of tests and was still stumped. Usually arthritis is in more than one joint. They never did figure out what was causing it. But it did start to stabilize on it’s own for some reason. That part was unexplained too!

Wow Ellie! You have quite the crime fighting little bunny there! You are lucky though. I mean, what if they weren’t scared off and you stumped upon them actively breaking in?!

Oh Rain, it will be OK! Both my buns are boys, but Wooly still had to have an abdominal neuter.

If I could ever have a dog (which I can’t) I would have a greyhound, one of those huge, tall, white fluffy dogs (I think they are called Great Pyrenees Mountain dogs or something) or a husky. Or a yorkie. I just love their teddy bear look. Or a Pomeranian, because they have little smiles.

@Rain: Best talk to your vet about it. If he turns out to be a she, it’ll be vital for her health to do the procedure. Unspayed females have a chance of uterine cancer which can be > 50% by age 4.
I understand your worries, but you have a rabbit savvy vet they’ll have a lot of practice and she should be safe during the procedure. They’ll also give her painkillers to take for a couple of days. The discomfort lasts only a few days, but will protect her from something even more horrible.

@LBJ: people ask me that more often, but what I’ve learned is that thieves will flee if you give them enough warnings beforehand and enough time/space to escape. I always remember to make noise, shine a flashlight a long distance away, and never to put myself between a burglar and an escape route. I also carry a phone with 112 directly underneath my thumb. And worst case scenario: I’m a part time wheeler already anyway

@Rain: thank you, I’m really proud of our clever bun!

Hi Ellie, glad to see you back, I was actually starting to worry =D Breintje the guard bun! What a lovely children’s book that could be, I can just imagine it with drawings of Breintje and you in a long night gown hunting down thieves in the middle of the night! Be careful though. I know you’re a clever person so I know you are careful. But still.

Muchelle, acupucture could help relax her muscles, but I think the needles would terrify her. She even hates the laser and laser isn’t painful one bit, I’ve had laser myself plenty of times and you can’t feel it. She’s thankfully not (yet) at the point where we have to help her do her daily business, between episodes she moves around fine although if you look closely you can see that she’s ever so slightly out of balance at times. I don’t know why her problem was deemed inoperable. I’ll ask again when we go for our next check up. My main worry now is that her antiinflammatory med isn’t agreeing with her tummy. She gets a dog probiotic and omeprazol to try and counteract the detrimental effects NSAIDs often have on the stomach.

As for baking dog cake, she is pretty spoilt when it comes to food. I cook dog stew for her. She always helps me in the kitchen. If only she’d had opposable thumbs I’m sure she’d cook for me. But alas…

Rain, I can very well understand how you feel about Rain possibly being a girl. I’d be terrified too – but I’d still do it because I know the importance of it. We have had and have so many, many, many girl buns here that have been through the procedure. Do your research, find a good, experienced vet and we’ll talk you through the worry and the aftercare =)

LBJ, that doesn’t sound nice at all. It’s not OTC here but it is in Finland. I take “normal” ceterizine on an almost daily basis during the allergic season and I don’t notice any side effects. But we all react differently to different meds.

@Bam, As on humans, from what I’ve seen in my time at the Spinal Unit, they tend to not operate patients that are too old (because of the dangers of prolongued anesthesia) or that have severe affections to bones and joints, like ostheoporosis, or that have other important ailments. After surgery there is also a period of forced stillness followed by intensive rehab.

So maybe the vets are not prone to do the procedure because it would greatly impair her mobility in the following weeks?

@Rain, I know it looks horrible and the thought is horrible. But! a) it’s a necessary evil; b) the risks deriving from anesthesia are the same in both boys and girls; c) I assure you those vets have some very good drugs. She won’t even remember the worse parts. She’ll be wide awake and aware just in time for her return home and you’ll get all of her tiny hate <3

@ Ellie & Bam: omg let’s make a kid’s book DDD I like to illustrate things

I feel so bad for you, you have to stay away for such a long time. I get sad and gloomy just by the end of a school day. It helps to look at pictures and videos, but when I’m away for much longer, it makes me feel even worse. If only you could face time your pets. It always hurts to be parted from loved ones. I just try to distract myself, or if it doesn’t make me feel worse, I look at his pics.

I feel guilty as well as they won’t get as much attention as my partner works full time whereas I’m usually home all day, every day to see them. Aaaaaahhhhh!

I’m sure your buns will be super excited to see you on the weekends! A few years ago I had to leave my dog for two weeks and I cried everyday because I missed him but he was completely fine haha! I think he enjoyed my dad taking care of him because he spoiled with extra treats.

I hope it’s nothing too serious, although it’s obviously bad enough to be hospitalized…  I hope you’re back on your feet soon. Is the hospital close to home? Hopefully it’s close enough that your partner or someone can bring you something to eat, hospital food is…

Buttercup on the other hand was mad at me lol. I had to give her treats and be like “let me love you!!!” Hahaha!

Hazel, it’s nothing too serious, well I suppose it is but I’m used to it (I have cystic fibrosis so I’m hospitalised with chest infections fairly often) Unfortunately I’m having to endure the hospital food, the food is the 2nd worse part about it all  (the worse of course is being away from bun buns) I had vegetarian meatballs earlier with veggies and no joke, the veggie portion was half a brocolli floret (half!!) and a few carrot sticks

Hospital food -well, I’m grateful for hospitals and I got excellent care when I had to spend 2 days in hospital last summer -but the food wasn’t very good (understatement). I hope you won’t have to stay long and I hope they’ve free wifi. P&B must be missing you so much.

I got one on Amazon for about £30, and it is totally worth it. I can access it from my phone, and can turn it to point at wherever they are. It also has night vision, so you can see them when it’s dark. And I can talk to them through it, although that freaks them out, so I don’t do it.

This is the one I have: http://amzn.eu/gzHC3cg

Thanks for the Cali reccomendations BB8. Me and my boyfriend love aquariums, so we’ll definitely make that a priority (as long as it isn’t the kind with captive dolphins and whales… I don’t think I could cope with that). And yes, I love bread… I will definitely look that one up!

I don’t think it was complicated though, I just didn’t have anything to do with it.

Ok, I’ve just looked at the description and it says ‘connects with smartphone by simply scanning the QR code on the camera’. One review specifically says ‘setup was easy, I’m not technologically gifted and I managed with no help’ so it should be doable

Their app walks you through all of the steps. I had to use a wired connection to get it set up but now everything is wireless. Now if only my bunnies would stop lounging right beneath the camera…

I do wonder if it’d do more harm than good seeing what mischief they get up to, I might prefer to stay oblivious! Haha. No I think I’ll try it

I’m still in contact with some people via Insta. Miss chatting with you all, though I’m glad I made that Insta and can keep up with all of your cutie patooties

My back has not gotten better since I was hit by that car, and the guy did not have liability insurance so his insurance is refusing to pay for my medical treatment (saw a chiropractor, massage therapist, likely going to be getting an MRI). I have had this “pinched nerve” feeling for weeks now, the chiropractor suspects a bulging disk? Either way, doing some massage therapy and possibly an MRI to determine the cause of this nerve pain. I did have to get an attorney involved because since his insurance will not cover my expenses, my husband’s insurance is being billed for it all.

As if I didn’t have enough going on with working and school, and now I have meetings with lawyers and massage therapy 3x a week. Oy vey! ! !

                                                                                                                              I skimmed through briefly and:

@Ellie, I wish you were on Instagram, I would love to hear all of your Breijente (probably spelled that wrong) stories and keep in touch with you! I can’t believe you went to scare off the bike burglars… I’m SUCH a wimp, I would have done nothing

@Sarah, no free wifi! Free wifi is everywhere here in the states…although I wonder what will become of this whole Net Neutrality thing…

@A&B, you KNOW that I’m so jealous of your Bahamas trip!! I’ll have to somehow ensure that my week in the oldest city is better than yours in paradise… wish me luck on that!

@S&L, I’ve wanted one of these pet cams too! I think I would need several though for it to be useful, since Ophelia is free roam even when I’m gone and she could be anywhere!

To everyone else, hi and hope you are all well!

He hasn’t peed outside his litter tray in about a fortnight but my partner informed me that he did last night. I wonder if he’s acting out because I’m not there?

Maybe your partner can bring home a shirt from the hospital that has your scent on it and give it to Peanut? Of course, he might pee on it though , but your “presence” might help.

STG – I’d say so. Maybe your partner can bring home a shirt from the hospital that has your scent on it and give it to Peanut? Of course, he might pee on it though , but your “presence” might help.

It’ll be worth a try. I did leave an item of clothing when I was in hospital beginning of last year and if I recall, my partner sent me videos of Peanut digging at it   I’m popping home for a few hours tomorrow so I can see the little rascal so I’ll be sure to leave a shirt or something when I go back to hospital.

It’s too hard to stay away from adorable bunnies.

I went to the vets today and they checked her and everything, and she’s a healthy, pretty little girl. And now she’s hiding under my bed. The vet seemed very experienced. She even gave me a whole packet of rabbit information. She knew her stuff. Answered all my questions. I’m glad that now I have a trustable vet. Although she didn’t seem very intent on us getting Rain spayed. She just said that yes, the girls do get uterine cancer later in life if they don’t get the surgery, and that she spays all her girl rabbits early for that reason. She didn’t convince my dad that Rain needs the surgery though. I guess that’s so she didn’t cause an arguement between me and my dad in her office. But I definitely will be getting her spayed soon. Very soon. The way they treated her though! She didn’t let them pick her up, but they just wrapped her in a towel and completely ignored her kicking. I think maybe she”ll let me start holding her now that she knows it isn’t TOO bad. I knew I should have socialized her when she was young, but I was just too worried that I would stress her by doing something she didn’t like. Anyways, I’m so glad that now I know the gender! A baby girl.

Guess who accidentally left the bunnies out with the cat out for three hours while we weren’t home. Whoops! Thankfully everybody seems fine. I suspect our cat, Jasiri slept in our bedroom 90% of the time we were gone. I can’t believe I did that though, first time it’s happened. And while Jasiri has improved with her bunny behaviour a little bit, she does still try to wrestle with Apollo on an almost daily basis and I have to chase her out before she jumps him. I think the problem is that Apollo has never fought back or chased her off, whereas from day 1 with kitten and bunny introductions, Luna was standoffish and would grunt and lunge at Jasiri, which I thought was a good thing because it taught Jasiri boundaries. She’s never had those boundaries from Apollo which I think is why she goes for him. I know it’s just play, but it’s still not safe.

On the plus side, we found a place that does really nice waffles (a rare treat here), and I bought a second hand small buffet cabinet to convert into a cat litter tray house thing for the hallway. All I have to do is cut a hole in the side (such a shame) with a jigsaw. There’s a removable shelf that has to come out or I need to drill some additional support holes to raise it up further. Jasiri has two litter trays, I’ve just moved one to the laundry after cleaning that out, and I’m hoping the one from the bedroom can be moved into this hall cabinet. It’ll be right near the laundry one but it’s still important to have two trays.

If anyone has a miracle cure for preventing the buns from pulling hay everywhere out of their hay rack, and pooping all over the hay, I would really appreciate it. I know the solution is really a longer litter box (or perhaps a wooden homemade hay rack), but I really love my sifting litter tray and trying to find something like that to replace it could be tricky.

Az. Do NOT get rid of litter tray. Of course you’ll find a solution… hook a hay rack on to the outside of it (rather than IN it)? Like a balcony plant holder back to front? Or something along those lines?

Sounds as if the buns and Jasiri are getting used to each other. Of course, the only way to stop Jasriri playing with buns is to get HER a playmate. Of the feline sort !! haha

I left the xpen open the other evening when cleaning them out and i got sidetracked. I was alerted when Baloo (the dog) was IN it hoovering up the poops all scattered around the sleeping buns !!!!! Oooops.

I mean, twenty four inches is a lot. But in Texas there is NOTHING. No white stuff at all. Not a drop. Well there was ONE day of snow on the entire winter and that was the first time in thirty years that it snowed in San Antonio.

I have a dance recital next month, and I feel so unprepared for it since I have been so busy, and because of the sheer amounts of class cancellations due to the weather. Also, this is the first year I have people (2 or 3 different families I am friends with) other than my direct family and best friend coming to watch/support me. I mean, it’s nice and all to feel loved/supported, but it is WAYYYY more pressure. Because when friends/family come, you KNOW they are watching you. You can pretend everyone else is looking at the person next to you, you can take comfort in the fact that if you mess up, you will never see these people again, and they won’t recognize you later in life. But if you mess up in front of people you know? Different story.

So yeah, I am super anxious.

I do piano recitals and I get sooooo nervous!!! There’s never been a year when I can actually perform the song without messing up on some keys. Even when I am prepared. It’s so hard, especially in front of family members and friends, because like you said, they are the ones who watch the most. But, I find comfort in knowing that the people who love and support you won’t think negatively of you for your mistakes, but instead will offer advice and constructive criticism for next time. Like if you do happen to mess up on stage, they’ll just offer some tip so that you don’t do it again.

I may or may not have spent too much money on another Lion King collectible today I’ve been eyeing it off in the store for a while not knowing how much it was. I took another peek today and asked about the price. It was less than I thought so I bought it, haha.

I still haven’t solved the problem of the messy bunnies. I have got a borrowed jigsaw at the moment so I might use that to build a wooden hay rack. I’ve been meaning to build one for a while. I have in mind that should solve most of the mess problems, I hope.

My brother is interstate with his family so I get to drop in and check on/feed the chickens. It also means a few free eggs and chicken pets lol. They’re terribly cute. I’m thinking of also treating them to some sprouted seed as well. This Saturday I’m also making another big batch of food for Dory so there’ll be leftover greens from that too which I’m sure they’ll appreciate.

I loved that movie as a little kid. My parents told me that I would make them sit with me every single night and watch it for almost two years!!! I still have a collection of plush lions (mostly Nala, she’s my favorite!) from when I was a toddler.
Hmm, I might actually get a hay rack too. Apparently, Rain has a hard time understanding the concept of one side being the poop/pee side and the other being the eating side. She sits on top of the hay pile and eats and does her business there, and the other half of the litter box is just completely empty and unused. I think I’m going to try to make one too.

I wouldn’t have a clue how many times I’ve watched it, never too many! I have a few plush toys, though not many as for me they’re more of an embarrassing collectible, lol. Whereas I have my nice figures on display in a cabinet in the lounge with a few other bits and pieces. Not to mention all the other random stuff that’s tucked away in a box.

Apollo and Luna however are complete slobs, lol.

I was talking to a guy a little while ago, and he mentioned he had never seen them (along with a plethora of other Disney movies). He also then said they looked stupid and did not want to watch them-ever. Deal breaker! (jk jk, that wasn’t the only deal breaker haha)

Not feeling well but getting a bit better over time. Will be more active when my head is more cleared up.

Three weeks ago I was refused help at another rehabilitation centre, and they referred me to “psychosomatic physio” with the promise that that would solve all my problems. I was highly skeptical because I don’t think fibro is “between the ears”, and full recovery doesn’t exist yet. Also had doubts about this therapy: everywhere I looked I found that the therapy regularly makes sidesteps into unproven methods. But friends, doctors and even Bas put a lot of pressure on me and kept telling me “if it doesn’t help it doesn’t hurt”. I felt like I had to go because it would haunt me forever if I didn’t. If you’re chronically ill a lot of people will tell you that you WANT to be ill if you won’t try every obscure therapy out there.

The therapy started semi-scientific with biofeedback, but at the 3rd consultation the therapist suddenly told me to undress and started “haptonomy”. That’s a “therapy” created by a Dutch physio, and it’s all about touching the patient to improve their emotional well-being. According to this therapy if you don’t appreciate being touched intimately by a stranger you have emotional issues. The therapist got angry when I asked him if there was any science to back that therapy up. He shouted that they were still “working on the research” and that I shouldn’t attack his methods. Finally by then Bas saw that it really was quackery and he relented. I also told my friends what “if it doesn’t help, it doesn’t hurt” turned out to be. Two weeks of hardly any sleep, a big bite out my funds and more problems than I started out with. I’ll never let myself be pushed into a sham therapy again.

That’s awful, I feel terrible for you. I pray that you find proper treatment, and that you get better. Any therapist that starts shouting at their patient is not really a therapist at all, at least not one that is trustworthy and helpful. I hope that you can find a better therapist.

Wooly peed in my lap today and soaked me clear through to my underwear. I had a date with his butt to cut some poop off. While I had him there, I thought I could do some additional grooming. I was actually making a lot of progress until Wooly decided he had had enough.

I’m completely with you on the science part. Maybe I’m too critical sometimes, but I have a very strong aversion to mumbo jumbo therapies that target people who are in a vulnerable position due to pain or some other ailment. It makes me SO angry!!!

Not wanting to be touched by just anybody is imo a perfectly normal response. How clever to invent a method that works unless the patient has emotional issues! Therapy failed: Patient’s fault. Therapy worked: Excellent therapy. Can’t go wrong with that one! (if you’re the therapist).

The last couple of weeks have been so tiring. I suppose Bas was desperate after all the regular medical therapists couldn’t help. Doctors are in the dark as well, and are putting it on “between the ears”. There are many illnesses or pain complexes which aren’t properly understood yet, and just assuming that it’s between the ears is just as poor a guess as trying to pinpoint it in the body. We just know these problems are there, not how to fix them.
My back’s been seen by many doctors and therapists the last 1,5 years and the only conclusion they could draw was that there’s a massive block of muscle tension which has put my whole lower back on lockdown. No massage or medication has been able to unravel it thus far. Next week we’ll have an appointment with the physio who has treated my neck and shoulders for the past 8 years, she’ll make a plan with me to do some gentle exercises. One thing’s for sure: I’ve lost a lot of strength and you can see that my upper legs have become super thin because I can hardly walk anymore. Maybe some properly guided exercise will help me to strengthen the area. Hopefully it’ll give me a bit more options too: being able to stand for a bit longer, walk a bit further? Let’s see where it goes!

About that therapist: we’ll discuss him and his actions next week too. My physio and that guy work in the same large clinic, and I’ll tell her why I won’t see him anymore. I’ll also show her the booklet which he gave me last time, it was dripping with New Age hooey. He concluded that I’m a “Child of the new age” and a Highly Sensitive Person because I don’t like to have my butt fondled by a stranger while being nearly naked… The solution for that would be more “therapy” according to their ideas (hue hue hue). Yeah, I think I’ll skip this one.

He claims to be a physiotherapist, but I can assure you that “drawing energy circles” and “making power objects” is well out of his profession. I even doubt it’s part of that on-the-edge field of psychosomatic physiotherapy. I also researched that haptonomy therapy of his: even quacks have guidelines supposedly. Those guidelines state that you need to have at least 2 specific haptonomy sessions with the patient before you lay a finger on them and you need to make sure that the patient fully trusts you and feels at ease. You also need to deeply interview the patient about what touch means to them. And if they have a troubled past (he full well knows I do!) you need to be extra careful or avoid this therapy at all. Have you been counting along to check off everything which he didn’t do? I’ll also take this up with my own physio.

You have to be really careful with what you choose as a treatment. Regular doctors make mistakes too, but in the alternative business people often think those mistakes are harmless: if it doesn’t help it doesn’t harm. But if you DO end up seeing a quack, it does. One sign of a quack is a therapy which will only work if the patient believes in it enough (AKA: if it doesn’t, start guilt-tripping the patient). And yes, there are people out there who’ll blame a sick person for their own illness unless they’ve seen every quack and snakeoil merchant in the country. I’m SO done with that…

This stupidness has to end. Especially if the dude wasn’t even following his own phony science’s professional rules. Touching is a delicate matter, I don’t even have to whip out my licence as a professional therapist to say that.

On the other hand, biofeedback, if done by a professionist that knows what they are doing, can be useful. A few of my school mates have either been patients or have used it and they say it’s very much legit. It does help tone down the physiological response to stressors and help the patient better self-regulate. I don’t specifically know if it can be useful to your specific case (thinking about pain/discomfort management) but I can ask my colleagues if you’d like an anonymous opinion.

For my condition the therapy proved to be only weakly effective.

That guy sounds like a creep for sure. I truly don’t understand how someone can be considered “highly sensitive” just because they aren’t fond of being handled by strangers. Honestly, what’s the scientific basis for that? I guess it could have something to do with empathy…? I just don’t understand that.

I’m doing massage therapy 3x week and it is so uncomfortable for me… I know that I’m going to be getting touched, I mean that is the entire purpose of it. But I’m still not comfortable with a stranger coming in and rubbing all over me. It’s weird. At least all of the massage therapists are women, I feel like it would be much stranger to have some rando guy massaging the top of my ass XD I really don’t like doing this, I just have to do what the attorney says for the time being so we can get as close as we can to a maximum payout from the insurance…..

I’m sorry that everyone is putting so much pressure on you. Of course they have good intentions, but there can be a bit of a disconnect because they aren’t experiencing what you are. It’s so easy to think that you can put yourself in someone else’s shoes, but those decisions really can’t be made by anyone but you. **hugs** Hope things start looking up!

@Muchelle: Hehe, thanks again My BF has access to Scopus from his uni account so we delved into the literature and found some good comparative studies. A real wealth of information and it’s good to prepare yourself before you get a treatment.

We had the big talk with my physio today, was super nervous about it. She was super sympathetic and utterly shocked to hear about his methods and his way of approaching a patient. I also showed her the homework he had given me: a booklet about HSP’s with a lot of information about the 6th sense, energy circles and creating your own totem object. He presents himself as super scientific during their meetings, so it was quite a shock for her as a colleague to find that he uses this new age stuff in his treatments. She immediately stated that this does NOT belong in a physio clinic. If people want to seek alternative treatment that’s their choice, but it shouldn’t be disguised as a regular treatment from a regular therapist.

Appearantly she had explicitly asked him to do only the biofeedback so she could start her treatment with those results. So he didn’t only fail to listen to me, but also failed to provide her with useful information. The way he deals with guidelines is especially worrying to her: intimacy and privacy shouldn’t be treated haphazardly. She said she felt guilty for sending me to him (how could she have known?) and apologised. She’ll file a formal complaint about his actions towards their supervisor. His methods have been outed towards at least one colleague, so that helps. She said she was very glad that I came forward with it, because many people simply walk away if they disagree with the therapy. This way they can get some feedback on what’s going on.

I left work early yesterday due to weather concerns, and the Federal government (I work for the U.S. Department of Justice) shut down this morning because it’s really, really icy and the DC area doesn’t do well with ice on the roads (and railroads; Virginia Railway Express, my commuting route, shut down today too as well). Panda and Fernando don’t care a damn, they’re toasty warm and have their morning pellets, hay and fresh water and have been cuddling happily with each other. I’ve been quaffing coffee from my brand-new Keurig compact brewer, good thing I picked up a couple of boxes at the supermarket yesterday…

My husband and I were the victims of a hit and run around 11pm on St. Patrick’s day. We assume the idiot was drunk. We were going down a main road (there were no street lamps), travelling a safe distance behind an SUV, when suddenly he backs up going 40mph. We swerved to the left to avoid being smashed in the front, only to have the idiot erratically turn to the left, and smash the right side of the car, where I was. Luckily no one was hurt, except for whiplash which needs some chiropractic adjustments. He then sped away at 50mph, leaving us to crunch to the side of the road to wait 15 minutes for the police… We need a new fender, bumper, antifreeze tank, and battery. The total estimated damages is $2500. We were umbrellaed under Hubs’ mother’s plan, which is awful. $1000 deductible, and no rental car use, which she apparently left 6 months ago and never told us.. And now, they’re trying to find a way to make us at fault so we’d have to pay the full $2500. They say it looks suspicious that we wouldn’t be at fault when we were behind the other guy because we had front end damage. What I think they fail to see is that the other guy would too (they never caught him), and again, he bolted. The car that was behind us only checked to see if we were okay, and didn’t stick around for the police, so the insurance thinks it look suspicious that the only witness didn’t say anything. So I’ve filled out about 10 accounts of the accident in 2 days.

On top of that, because of how crazy Sunday and Monday were, I forgot I had two midterms in my grad classes, and three major projects I missed. Profs say it’s no excuse, so now I had to drop 2 of my 4 classes, and won’t have my masters for another year instead.

It reflects poorly upon the whole sector. Hope you and the furmonsters will be safe during that storm!

I hope that the whiplash issues will go away quickly, neck issues are always tricky business I can’t believe that your professors are so unsympathetic about it! Is there any way to contact the head of the faculty to get that decision reversed? You shouldn’t have to pay for a whole year extra just because there were special circumstances.

Real world problems don’t exist, unfortunately. I have one amazing prof, which is good. But the rest go along with the school. Hopefully I can at least get into some summer classes.

She has licked it bald, and she has some bumps that look like giant skin tags. I hope they are easily fixed. The vet couldn’t squeeze us in until NEXT Thursday though. So that’s another 7 days we will have to wait.

I also have a feeling that the next couple days will be rather interesting…but we shall see

Everything was destroyed! We had to pay for a new car. But in the end I was just glad he was ok.

And of course, the insurance company is going to try to weasel their way out of everything because they want to keep their precious money. I mean come on, it’s not going to break their bank to pay a few thousand out… since I’m dealing with my recent accident, I totally understand how ANNOYING it is to deal with insurance companies… and they questioned me like I was the one who did something wrong. I’m glad I had a witness, and so sorry that yours didn’t stick around As for the professors…I’m at a loss for words…that is so wrong of them. I have professors like that too, who pretend that there are literally no other variables in your life besides you and your assignments.

A “handy” pedestrian witness corroborates his story until the panicked woman driver points out she has a dashcam and they BOTH run off. The pedestrian obviously being in on the scam too !!!!!!!

I hate insurance companies. I can totally see how they would say it “looks suspicious”. They can see where the damage is and try to blame you so they don’t have to pay. When I was in an accident many years ago, the insurance company tried the same thing. I was going straight, not even in an intersection at the time, and some kid turning left to go into a driveway somehow managed to t-bone my car. The insurance company said that the damage on my car made it look like I had pulled out in front of someone. Um.. no, not what happened. Hopefully you can get the insurance company to see that. We had to get an attorney in our case. It was because of that, but other things as well (i.e. the kid’s insurance company was just plain shady).

As for your classes, that is a bunch of BS. I was treated horribly in grad school. Absolutely horribly. But when my computer crashed right before a paper was due, my professor understood and gave me more time. He was my adviser though too, so I suppose we already had a good relationship. So that might have played into it. But still…

Things have been disappointing lately. And frustrating at times. I know I complain about it a lot on here. But man, it really has started to consume all of my thoughts.

My life has never been easy, so I just take it all in stride.

It’s just one of those things where you thought you did everything right and, yet, it didn’t work the way I had anticipated. I researched it thoroughly and followed the same process others have used. So I’m confused and disappointed at the same time because of the way things turned out. =\

There are prob 4 false ones for every true one! Unfortunately that means honest peeps like you get screwed.

She wasn’t even in the car and the insurance then refused to insure her as they saw HER as a liability . A tad unfair methinks !!

Wouldn’t help if someone crashed into your car when you weren’t in it, but for accidents while driving it could perhaps help your case.

Plus if a meteor comes crashing down like it did in Russia 2013, you could get spectacular dash cam footage of it.

Got good news yesterday: the complaint about that physio was taken very seriously by higher management. He’ll be summoned soon to explain himself.

More good news: physio did some tests yesterday and they showed what I’ve been telling doctors for over a year now. I’m as stubborn as a mule and won’t accept any help unless it really can’t be avoided. This has really paid off: even though I’ve been using a mobility scooter for more than a year, my good leg is still as strong as a healthy person’s leg

It’s also become clear that pain and nerve irritation are the limiting factors, not a poor physical condition or a lack of willpower. My physio made me do a walking test “until I couldn’t take it anymore”. In the end my foot started to drag and the nerve pain got so bad that I had stomach refluxes. So we know that we have to focus on pain management, and that I don’t require a kick up the rear to get me motivated. (Been telling doctors that for a year now, but it helps if tests show that as well.)
