March is here!
Happy March!! To celebrate, Coco decided to chew up ANOTHER one of my phone cords, second one in two weeks…..aargh.
It was plugged in though, so I’m grateful he didn’t get hurt.
LBJ- I also worked in retail for a while, but I my coworkers were pretty free about talking about money. Eventually I quit because my boss was super creepy and probably insane. When I put my notice in she called me and yelled at me.
MK – I think part of it was the company had a habit of paying employees unfairly. There would be people who worked there for a year, for example, and they would hire a new person and start their pay at a higher rate than people who had already been working there for a year. I guess they didn’t have a set policy on what a starting wage should be and if someone asked for more (and they were short on staff) they would consider paying them that amount. It caused a lot of problems when employees found out what their peers made, so they made a policy saying you couldn’t discuss what you make with others. If you did and a complaint was made, you could be fired for it.
Yeah, I know what you mean about creepy bosses. And possibly psychotic bosses. They never really lasted long though (the store had a high turnover rate for managers too).
Hazel—(response from feb. chat) I haven’t really told her yet. Even though it’s not a HUGE deal, she’s been pretty stressed out over the last couple weeks. Work, busy schedule, her friend found out she had blood cancer about 2 weeks ago and died last week. We are going to her funeral tomorrow. I don’t really want to bring up anything else atm.
Anyways, should I be wearing all black at the funeral tomorrow? It’s being called a ‘celebration of life’ but I am not sure…
Yay! March!! (Still not warm, yet… *sighs*)
Moxie, people generally wear black or white to a funeral. Or dark colors like grey. If it’s called a celebration of life, maybe lighter colors would be acceptable? In Thailand, where my mother was born, we wore black and white. In the US, many people only wear black… I don’t really know.
The weather actually hasn’t been too bad here. The last half of February was bearable to nice. This weekend is supposed to be in the 60s, so I would say that’s pretty nice.
Moxie – Sorry to hear your mom is having a rough time. Um, I guess what you wear to the funeral depends on how formal they are making it. Like I went to a funeral a few years ago and I wore a dark blue floral skirt and matching top and I wore a black cardigan thing over that. I didn’t feel out of place, really. It seems a lot of people don’t wear all black to funerals anymore.
Wow, I’m going to cry. Seriously though, my thesis data just isn’t coming out. We tried running it through a different program and it was jumping through hoops trying to create a model that fits. *sigh* Yep, spent the drive home questioning what I’ve been doing with my life and thinking about how nothing has meaning. Word of advice….. don’t go to grad school.
LBJ, I am sorry. Hope something works out with your data
I am … mostly settled now at my moms. The bunnies are in an x-pen setup, with some extra space in my room when I am home (well, except this week, I had wires all over so they had to stay in until I could get power fixed in my room, ugh!) Bird has his cage and is free when I am home. Doors are locked to keep the cats/dogs out at all times. And I just got a job today!
March Chat, hmm, well I’m so glad it is March, I had a dream last night, it was Christmas and in the dream I was looking for custard for cakes, I was asking the people where I would find it, the funny thing was I was I was in a sports shop asking for custard, so yeah I’m glad it is March.
The March Hare, having a cup of tea and some cake.
I’m going to keep up with this chat-or else I give you all permission to smack me upside the head!
I can’t believe it’s already March. Wow. :/
All bunnies say….You will keep up with the chat
Hope you are doing well ![]()
I know, I can’t believe it’s already MARCH! uhg, before you know it, it WILL be Christmas again.
The barred owl much be hungry. About 5 minutes after my dad let the chickens out into their run the owl flew down and landed on a tree about 20 ish feet away (there are no leaves so we could clearly see him from inside our house). I went running and quickly shooed them back into their coop. But the owl still sat their for like 4 and a half hours, watching the coop to see if they’d come out. And this was during the day too, from noon until around 4:30 pm.
Yep, I told you Moxie. When food is scare (like during winter), barred owls are seen during the day more often. Now, whether or not he would actually try to take a chicken, I don’t know. He would have to be pretty desperate. Especially since chickens are a risk. They can put up a nasty fight.
LEL – Yes, you NEED to keep up with the chat.
Stickerbunny – Glad to hear you are settling in. And congrats on the job!
Yeah, my data is what it is. I could potentially collect more data, but I doubt it would do much good. It just doesn’t support my hypothesis and that’s just what will have to go into my thesis. Reminds me of my senior research project in undergrad. It was a complete failure. It wasn’t entirely my fault, I suppose. The stupid DNA strands weren’t getting cut where they were supposed to so I never got to the point where I could even test my hypothesis.
We know people who have lost ducks and chickens to owls, so we know it’s possible. We just have to be really careful.
It’s possible, of course. I’m just saying he’d have to be pretty desperate. Most owls do not make a habit out of preying upon chickens and ducks.
LBJ– Yea. It makes me feel somewhat sad for him though, I hope he has enough food!

I know a lot of people now a days don’t like Bully breed dogs, but I just adore them. Some of the nicest dogs I know are bully breeds (a rottie and a few pit mixes). Bull terriers are one of my favorite dog breeds though. I think they are simply adorable, but everybody I show them too think they are “Super ugly” “So ugly only a mother could love it” “Ew that’s a homely beast!”
I honestly don’t understand why though.
b

Who could resist ’em?![]()
Moxie- I think those breeds are cute! I actually love pitbulls….but the majority of people I know think they’re dangerous, but I would LOVE one. I don’t know how accurate the general population’s fear or pitbulls is.
Moxie, the dog in the car, you could imagine him saying something like. “Why did the vet take my Do Dahs? What does he want them for?”
I LOVE pitties. So cute, and not to mention how much I love owning steryotypically “ugly” and “dangerous” animals. ![]()
oh Moxie that is a super c ute dog.
I love bully breeds best. They are the only ones I feel can really live with smaller animals safely. (obviously it depends on individuals, but overall)
I need a pic of Willow standing on Lump. She loves to use him as a good place to periscope from. Our birds like to ride him too. But Willow, she loves him I t hink more than she does us humans.
Here is our Lump.
I think pitties areally cute!! I’m partial to pitbulls, but almost everyone I know says they’re dangerous. Im not sure where that fear came from though..
Mimsy- so cute! !!
Sorry! I thought my other post didn’t go through so I repeated myself
I think my favorite breed is English bulldogs. However with all the heath issues and breeding too much for looks regardless of the health problems…so far I haven’t been able to bring myself to consider one, ethically. Though if I could find a really good breeder that bred for health and not looks, maybe or rescue dog.
My cousins have a boxer/pit mix named Mosa who is adorable. They brought her over for thanksgiving because she gets along with our old doberman, Remus. My mom gave Remus his special thanksgiving dinner with turkey and gravy, and then she went back to cooking. When she looks over, Remus is standing next to her just whining and crying while Mosa eats his special dinner! She didn’t have to growl or bully or anything, just nudged him over and took his place. He just cried to my mom to do something about it. (later in the evening, she tooks his bone and his spot on the couch)
It’s so funny having a doberman because when i tell most people or show them pictures, they say “he looks badass” and “they’re good guard dogs right?” but when i mention it to a vet or someone else that works with a lot of dogs they say “oh, i love them they’re so goofy”

Sorry! I thought my other post didn’t go through so I repeated myself
Where did it come from? A mixture of the media and very bad owners. Pitties are often used for dog fighting, because they are muscular and good at it. Their bite pressure isn’t the best (despite the myth that their jaws lock, they do not) but their instincts are to go for the throat. This gives them the reputation of being aggressive, when really, any dog mistreated that way is going to be aggressive. The human attacks by pits are typically, again, the owner being irresponsible. Leaving a three year old around a dog while he’s eating, without supervision… well, some dogs are food aggressive and you shouldn’t mess with them while eating, that’s not the dog’s fault. Or, offering them no supervision/training and letting them roam the neighborhood with no fence in a pack – that’s just asking for trouble. Also, some people have bred specific lines of Pits to be more aggressive, while good breeders breed for a good nature.
Another thing is, a lot of the “pit attacks” are mislabeled. “Pit bull” is used for over 13 different dog breeds in the U.S, not just the Staffordshire. AND if you watch the stories, a lot of the media labeled “pit bulls” are not anywhere near a pit bull. I saw one “pit bull attack” story and the dog was an American Bulldog. Another, the dog was a BLACK LABRADOR. Another dog labeled a pit by police was a bulldog mix. One family had papers from their breeder and registration showing their dog was not a pit bull and the city still said they had to get rid of their “pit bull dog”. Studies show (they DNA tested “pit bulls” at various shelters) that shelter workers mislabel dogs as pit bulls 0 to 48% of the time, depending on shelter. Actual pits were only labeled 33 to 75% of the time, depending on shelter. Anything that looks “bull dog” or “muscular” gets labeled a pit sometimes. Can you imagine 48% of “pits” being other breeds, with the fear of the breed the country has? That is sentencing a dog to death.
A properly raised pit is a joy to see. They are loyal and friendly and have a protective, but nurturing nature. They were bred to be nanny dogs, not fighters. They can have a prey drive, but like all dogs, it varies. The pit bull my mom had was the sweetest thing in the world and slept curled up with cats and small dogs and he was a stray that walked into her yard one day, fully grown. So he wasn’t raised around the animals.
… sorry, I kinda ranted. But, I hate the “that dog breed is dangerous!” thing. The only thing dangerous is the people that try to make them dangerous and end up giving the dogs poor temperaments. But, just look at Michael Vick’s dogs today – all those pits saved from a fighting ring, rehabilitated and rehomed as loving pets who adore their owners. One even has to carry around a blankie to avoid panic attacks and have his smaller “brother” (the other dog) bark for him if he wants to go outside to potty. Hardly scary!
Stickerbunny- Thank you so much! That was super helpful, I didn’t know most of that. I agree, it’s just bad ownership. We had a neighbor who had a rescue pitbull (I believe her name was Justice) and she was beautiful and very friendly. He would go jogging every day with her, and he didn’t even need a leash. She stayed right by him. It’s going to be years before I can responsibly own a dog on my own, but when I can, I am seriously considering getting a pitbull.
Another interesting fact, is most of the time, media does not even report dog attacks that are caused by dogs other than “pit bulls”. Sad really. ![]()
I’ve seen how nice Pits can be, I must admit I’m scared of them, but I am of most animals I don’t know, but I have seen pictures of Pits with other animals, News headlines, ‘Baby saved by pitbull.’ I think its how they are brought up, if dad teaches his son how to fight, the art of rope tying and buys him a book called ‘ How to drive round at night and not get caught by the police.’ you would have a problem.
So I think it is how they are brought up.
Moxie: I’m so sorry about your mom’s friend, how sad.
I hope she’s getting through it okay.
And that puppy is adorable!
LBJ: Don’t give up, I know you’ll figure something out. ![]()
Mimsy: How cute is Lump! I can’t believe he’s just laying there, with the bird right in front of him!
Pinky, yes, Pitbulls are banned in my neighborhood…
I know a person who had a Pitbull mix, and it was allowed because it “didn’t look like a Pitbull.” Also, the limit here is five pets per household!! ( I admit, I’ve broken that rule…
) Crazy laws… I know that it’s for a good reason, but still…
Most pitbulls I have come in contact with are intact and owned by drug dealers. (Not that I do drugs!) So in my town, pits are often associated with a not-so-honest lifestyle. But our neighbor has one, an older single lady, and I think he’s a good gaurd dog for her. He was an adorable puppy!
I think leaving any dog intact leaves it more susceptible to being aggressive.
My husband had an English bulldog when I met him. Very good dog. But he died suddenly at age 2. Very sad.
BrunosMama, a lot of dealers round here keep those dogs where I live, they take the dogs out at night, but bringing them up not to fight is the best way, same with all dogs, guard dogs don’t fight, police dogs don’t rip people up, you see police dogs walking about with an officer at shows or fairs calm as anything, the dogs only bark when the go out somewhere and they hear the officers say.”What’s going on here?” The dogs start barking in the car or van, I was out late Tuesday at the 24 hour shop,a police dog ran in followed by an officer, it was funny, the dog stopped sat down and had a good scratch.
I personally don’t know anyone who owns a pitbull. They are not very common around here and, like in BrunosMama’s area, they are often associated with not-so-nice areas of town. There was one person in our neighborhood that had two pitbulls though. He lived up the street and I only saw them when they were running around loose in the neighborhood. Apparently, they would push past the kids and get out the front door. The kids would chase and chase the dogs all over the neighborhood and the dogs would do anything to avoid being caught. Then the man would come outside, yell at the dogs, and they would immediately go back inside. This happened on almost a weekly basis. o_O
It isn’t that I don’t like big dogs, but I’m just not a big dog person. They are so energetic and they crush you if they try to get in your lap. LOL Our dog is small and we always had small dogs when I was growing up. I like one that I can hold and cuddle.
Ugh, I’m so stressed right now it seems my thesis is the least of my worries. I seriously just want to give up. My job has just become so much and I feel so stressed and depressed every day I go to work.
There are some pits in my neighborhood, but not very many. And the owners generally keep them inside, because the dog catcher isn’t likely to be nice to a pit. But, all the ones I have met were perfectly fine. Though, yeah, a lot of “not so nice” people end up getting them due to their reputation and … a lot of those people also fight them, honestly. And train them to be aggressive. Which, then furthers the bad rep when the poor things do what their owner teaches them to do.
LBJ – Haha yeah big dogs DO crush you! My mom is who I am living with atm, she has a Great Dane. Her Dane thinks she is a lap dog… ever had a dog THAT big try to sit IN your lap? She just kinda stands over you instead, or can only sit her very back end on you and keeps her front feet on the floor. And when she decides to “stand” with her arms around your neck, ugh! Will knock you over if you’re not paying attention. She is a sweet dog though. I prefer the pug, he gets in your lap and plays a few minutes then gets down. lol
Cute bunny Love4bunny. So funny that he did that.
Poor pits, I read that study when they did the genetic testing and found that they were mislabeling so many as pits.
Lump loves small animals. I don’t have cats, but for some reason those are his personal fave. Our neighbors cat has scratched him so many times when he’s t ried to lick it. Poor guy, always just looks sad…can’t say he’s real smart though cause he still tries to befriend it.
Willow loves him a lot and flops next to him, she scratches at his feet if he doesn’t do nose with her. Not sure if Lump really gets it, he’s kind of a crummy bunny groomer, but she is willing to groom him more than she does us.
He’s an old boy, a little over 12 now. I don’t know what I’ll do without him. He keeps my feet warm at night. Sits in my car when I do short runs to the store. Lets the birds ride him around the house.
I can’t say enough of how much of a sweet boy he is. Not super brilliant, not sure if it’s the breed or just him on that. LOL just teaching him how to use a dog door was crazy. Once he figured out…he uses it even if we have the door open…which makes him usually run into the wall and look confused. We also have an 18 year old Aussie and I think he might be smarter than most people. So Lump may be getting unjustly judged on smarts by comparison.
Cesar Milan did alot for pits. “Daddy” – bless him !
A lot of bad ass guys (drugs and gangs) have dogs that they’ve made aggressive.
It’s not a gun and not a knife (both illegal to carry in UK) so an aggressive dog is the next best thing (and in fashion) for protection in their eyes.
Pits are illegal in the UK so Staffies have made the grade. It was thought the staffordshire bull terrier would be renamed so people dont recoil form the name when in a rescue centre. But I think the tele and media and celebs have worked alot toward remarketing cute ‘Staffies’ and the word Staffie is OK now…
But there are still loads in rescue centres
Unfortunately, not many dogs are cared for as we would like to think they should be, and when their purpose has been served they’re got rid off… either by abandoning or other…
LBJ- it’ll work out! I hate feeling depressed when I go to work :/ is there any way you could maybe take a few days off for mental health?
Love4bunny, that picture is priceless!!!
Mimsy, Lump is so cute! I call my dog lump too, Effalump, because her name is Effi =)
I think the problem with pitbull-type dogs is primarily the owners. It’s often people that shouldn’t have a dog. In the olden days, people who shouldn’t have a dog had German Shepherds. Pitbulls are legal here but Amstaffs are much more common. People often don’t let their dogs play with pitbull-type dogs in the dog-parks, but that can happen with German Shepherds too.
LBJ, I so hope you’ll get this sorted soon. You are such a clever and good person so I’m sure you will, you mustn’t let it go out over your health. (((((((LBJ’s thesis))))))))
So, I found out recently that what is sold here as “horse stall pellets” and the feline pine/cat litter pellets are different. The “horse stall” pellets expand when wet, in a way the feline pine does not. Feline pine just goes sawdust when it gets wet from urine. The horse stall pellet says to add water BEFORE letting it be used as litter on the bag. I… didn’t do that. I just added it as litter, like I would regular wood pellets. OMG MISTAKE! haha I added the same amount i would of feline pine and after a day of them peeing on it, it had expanded so much they couldn’t do anything but stick their tails over the end of the litter box, it had filled up to the brim.
Stickers, I wish you’d taken a picture =)
I’ve never seen horse stall pellets here, I think most people here use peat.
I haven’t used the horse ones since I have had Willow. But I remember using them on the ferrets sometimes in the summer when the wood pellets would be out of season. I had to just barely sprinkle them into the boxes.
I used to use those, but it is a 35lb bag so I opted for the 40 lb wood stove pellets. Gosh though I never even read the bag, nor paid attention to what happened ! I change it daily though so I’d not of added much to the box.
I’ve only been able to find Wood stove pellets in my area, not horsestall. But that would’ve been very funny to see @Stickerbunny.
I’m not completely caught up on chat, but just wanted to pop in and say “Hi!”
We’re all still alive and well down here in SC! Tilly is lounging down here with me and Zoey, while the munchkins doze in their space… Dunny is upstairs in his hay box munching away. ^_^ I’ve been more active on FB lately because it’s a lot easier for me at the moment. My computer likes to log me out of BB and sometimes just goes a bit nutty. Still, we’re good. I’m about 33 weeks along and things have been real hectic lately trying to finish bonding 4 buns and get ready for a baby! Our alpha ladies are still trying to hold out, but the boys are at the point they just want everyone to get along.. so some progress, we just have to ramp up our efforts with the ladies!
As far as the conversation about pits and bullies; they are such love bugs! My brother in law rescued an abandoned pit-girl before Christmas and she just loves everyone and everything! She’s brindle and white and just wants to cuddle, wiggle and be a lap puppy! They have a 1 year old daughter that loves her to death and visa versa.
Hi Cottontail! Good to hear from you and that all is well with Tilly and Dunny and Zoey and the velvety munchkins
It sounds pretty hectic with 4 buns and a baby on its way but it sounds happy too
Hi Bam! ^_^ Yeah, we’re keeping an exhausting schedule but despite the extra stress of bonding, it’s been nice having the munchkins in the house. I’m really glad they became foster failures. Vinny is actually taking up a lot of old habits that Pete had, like being my kitchen shadow and running or binkying into walls… The biggest difference being that where Pete was overconfident, Vinny tends to be a bit of a wimp that needs comforting. I’ll try to do some updates on how bonding has been going, delays and all, a little later.
I know there are a few old BBers on FB that I keep in touch with but many of them have issues with signing in to BB or staying in long enough to get a post through.
Cottontail— Hi!! *Waves* You really gotta post more!
Hopefully all’s well down in your nice WARM climate! Today was -10 F (-23.3333 C), and it’s still been very snowy, we just keep getting more and more! Brrr! ![]()
Thanks guys. I don’t see things getting any better. I’m just overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done. I have deadlines to meet, which have to coincide with all of the appointments I’ll need to make. *sigh*
I have not used horse stall pellets. I imagine that would get tricky if they expand that much. o_O
Hi CT!!! What do you mean people are having trouble logging in? Glad to hear all is well with you.
The weather has actually been pretty decent lately. I’m so happy because it’s normally snowy in March. It’s supposed to be in the 70s on Monday.
I guess I should have taken a picture. I was more concerned with Powder not peeing in the floor from his tail sticking over the edge. haha LBJ – They aren’t tricky, now that I know they expand. I just put the thinnest layer on the bottom of the tray and when they get wet, they expand to be like the normal amount. It means when they first get a fresh litter pan, they push it around so the plastic is exposed until they pee the first time. But, whatever. Probably means this bag is going to last me a long time! And it was only $5.99. So much better than $8 for 20lbs of feline pine I was paying.
Now, I just have to find a local source of hay in the new place. There are a lot of horses, so there are a few places, I just have to find which one I want to use (quality/price).
And… figure out how to block my walls from Stickers. Every time I let her out, she goes straight to eating the wall. I have had to keep them locked in because I don’t want her to finish her half-eaten wall part and get outside my room from it. o.O
Stickers, when buns do sth funny you should ALWAYS take a picture – but it so rarely concides with having your phone or camera ready =)
Cottontail, I forwarded your post about people not being able to log on/stay on to BB.
Today I’m getting ready for 4 hours plus of spinning tomorrow morning. It’s the Vasaloppet-spin, a fun “tradition” that I’ve never tried before. Basically it’s a very long spin-class that starts when the first skiers in the cross-country long distance ski race Vasaloppet take off and finishes when sb wins. I hope I’ll make it through without collapsing =)

I know there are a few old BBers on FB that I keep in touch with but many of them have issues with signing in to BB or staying in long enough to get a post through.
Can you explain? What’s the problem? Are they not able to sign in and why aren’t able to stay in long enough to get a post through? Is the site slow for them (times out)? Need more detail to fix. Would you mind telling them to email me directly as well at:
jennifer AT Binkybunny DOT com (can’t put the actual email here otherwise it will be picked up by spambots)
Please let them know to also let me know their Forum Display Name so I can recognize them right away.
It can take a few days for me to respond sometimes as my email is filled to the brim each day, but I will get to them.
Thanks Cottontail!
Stickerbunny– Do you know what brand the horse stall pellets you bought were? I’m looking for a new, more efficient litter. ![]()
Guess who’s back???!!!!! Meee!!!!! ![]()
I’ve missed you all so much
especially my mum and sister of course ![]()
MIDNIGHT!!!!!!! Yay!! You’re back!!!! We’ve missed you! ![]()
BB – I know my problem is probably with my browser issues, as it’s been messing up on several other sites as well… Where I go to enter a post (or purchase on some sites) and when I hit submit it tells me that I am not logged in and I lose what I’ve done up til that point. I’m going to try to get my husband to help me with that. As for the others, I’ll forward your message along to them! I know some of them have gotten an error message when trying to log in.
Tilly and Duncan got upset today because I rearranged more of “their room” (the nursery) and finally had my comfy chair delivered. Now Duncan is pouting in his tunnel and Tilly just keeps staring at me when I go up there. ![]()
Hi Midnight!!!!!!
LBJ- Well, I don’t know your exact situation, but some things, like mental health, are more important than a job
I hope it all works out!!
The brand is Guardian and the type is Condensed Pine Pellets Horse Stall Bedding
Thanks Stickerbunny.
I’ll check our local “farm” stores (Tractor Supply store, Aubuchon Hardware and just a random “feed store” I don’t think has a name.
) to see if they carry it. It sounds like a good deal! ![]()
MK – It’s called doing the work of two people in a 30-32 hour work week. o_O
Midnight!!!!! We were just talking about you, wondering how you were. Hopefully your ears weren’t burning. ![]()
Midnight!!!! Hi! Long time no see, you must’ve heard us think of you through the ether or sth =)
LBJ, do ears burn when someone thinks of you? Here we say so is thinking of you if it tickles in your palms.
Bam – We say that if someone is talking about you, your ears will burn. That’s interesting that it tickles your palms over there.
I’m so happy the dog ate her food this morning. She hadn’t been eating much of anything for days. =\ Poor thing. The vet really doesn’t know what to do. She’s just so old.
LBJ10, when our dog got to 22 years old the vet said there was nothing he could do, the dog was old, he had Arthritis but still healthy, when he didn’t eat he suggested Weetabx and water, the dog loved it,like what you give little puppies, scrambled egg was another one he had, he enjoyed a bit of rice or pasta too.
But egg smells from a dog are not very nice.
PS. Glad she ate something, it is worrying when animals don’t eat.
LBJ, I’m too glad your dog ate. She’s so impressively old. And that’s just how it is, it’s not an illness to be really, really old, but it’s still heart-breaking.
She has no problem eating treats or “people food”. She just hasn’t been enthusiastic about her food lately. She will go through these phases where she won’t want to eat much for a few days and then all of the sudden she will be ravenous. It is troubling. But she is an old dog and I’m sure this is a part of that. She has trouble getting around on our floors, so we’ve been putting socks on her. My husband made her a new ramp to go outside too.
When my pup Kyra got to the last 16th year, I was just happy she ate anything, so I would cook her up chicken (never for me !), give her a bit of milk (good for dogs?? who cares, because she loved it)
It’s a bit like having a very elderly grandparent who wants to eat hamburgers all day – let them !!
So LBJ, I reckon if she wants to eat people food, any harm in that?
No food means weakness. And weak + old means downhill.
bam : if your “palms itch” in the UK, you’re coming into money !!!! LOL (or you’ve got eczema!)

We get ours at Tractor Supply. As far as I know, they don’t carry Stickerbunny’s brand, but they make their own. It’s called “equine pelletized bedding”. It comes in 40lbs bags costing $5-$7, depending whether or not it’s on sale.
We have a chihuahua here who is 17 1/2. It’s sad watching a dog get old like that. She has had to have all of her teeth pulled, so we have to feed her canned dog food or mushed up human food to get her to eat anything. And it has to be food with a very strong smell, as her smell is going. And she’s blind, so she can’t see her food bowl. But, she’s not in pain, has an appetite and gets around OK so she’ll keep going until she gets worse. In the mean time, we’re more focused on getting her to eat at all, so if the only thing she’ll eat that day is human food… she gets human food. At some point, it’s just about keeping them happy as long as possible. Would it be possible to get your pup some lean meats for the days she won’t eat the dog food?
I could try giving her some chicken and such. The problem is that she doesn’t seem to digest it very well. We have to be careful what we feed her sometimes too because she will vomit if something upsets her stomach. The vet suspects she has ulcers. We have given her Zantac in the past when it was bad. Poor thing is just old. But she did eat a fair amount of food today, so I’m okay with that. I think I might pick up some of the frozen “raw” dog food since she used to eat that with no problems.
Vienna, when our ears burn in Sweden it’s of shame. Or from having drunk glühwein =)
We gave our old dog whatever she wanted to eat too, but she had cancer and she wasn’t very old, just 12,5. It was our vet who said to give her whatever she wanted. Raw frozen food was barely invented in her day, I often think about how she would’ve LOVED that. Poor dear darling.
Age is relative really. A 12 yr old Labrador is really old for ex whereas a 12 yr chihuahua prob isn’t…..
It’s their quality of life that matters when they’re alive – that’s what I believe or I’d be a vegan, vegetarian and anything else ‘**arian’ !! LOL
I personally don’t want to live until I’m 100 if I’m in a bad way for the last 10 years… but if I’ve got everything going for me, still doing marathons, logging on to my emails etc…. then that’ll be just fine !! (PS Unlikely as I’m not running marathons now !! LOL)
I agree that 12,5 is old in a bigger dog like a Labrador or a German Shepherd, she was a German Shepherd, but it’s not like really, really old. I loved her so much. I will not write about that now because it makes me cry =(
I did survive my 4,08 hour spin-class yesterday, as is pretty obvious from my presence here. It was rather exhausting. Lots of “ordinary” people do the Vasaloppet ski-race, 90 km cross-country, that amazes me.
Lots of ‘ordinary’ people run the London marathon too….. and can’t walk to work the following day !!!! LOL ![]()
I never understand how people run marathons, and then there are people that run double- or triple marathons (but I don’t think they go to work the next day).
My ex-bf ran the Stockholm marathon one year and went out and partied all night the same night. But he was an athletic person, half Norwegian. (Norwegians are athletic).
Have you heard about the british comedian Eddie Izzard and his marathon marathons… for charity.
In 2009 (already, OMG!!) he ran 43 marathons in 51 days…. and for this year he’s planning on 27 in 27 days in South Africa !!!!
Crazy – but raises a truckload of money…..
I had no Idea Eddie Izzard did that but I know Girdon Ramsay did double or triple marathons. I can’t understand how it’s humanly possible for someone to run 43 marathons in 51 days.
Vienna— That’s so cool. I ran a 5k (3 miles) last October, and it really made me want to sign up for more!!
I know it’s bonkers ! 27 years for each year Nelson Mandela was in prison apparently…
I just have one other, non related (to bunnies or marathons) thing to say……. AAARRRRRGRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
I have a leaking kitchen tap and have just bought new washers for it… and it’s STILL leaking…….. I have no ‘real’ access to under sink to change the whole bloomin thing…. but i guess I have no choice….
So I say again…. AAARRRRRGRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
Bought Cleo a new cat tree. We set it up today. She isn’t comfortable with it yet, but I’ll have to post pics of it. ![]()
I stumbled upon this picture today. It’s hilarious because it’s so true! It was about 50 F ( 10 C) today and I’ve been outside in shorts/tshirt and flip-flops, excited about how “hot” it is, ha ha! Once we get to about 40-45 F (4.4 -7.2 C) everybody is wearing shorts and T shirts! LOL
Flip-flops in 10 C? You are mad, Moxie! I hope you had your angora hat as well.
We have 3 C (37 F) and rain. Everything is muddy and wet. But when the rain stops for a few hours, it smells like spring. And I think I heard the (Eurasian) blackbird (Turdus merula) sing for the first time last night. Here’s how it sings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV0401jOkWg
They start singing just before dawn starting in early April and it’s one of the best sounds to wake up to, except for the sound of a bun chewing on sth a bun is supposed to chew on =)
I’d love to see Cleo’s new tree! And Cleo!
Saw a mink at the park today! He was on the rocks along the creek, then hopped into the water and swam past some ducks. The ducks quacked at him, so he went up on the opposite bank where some doves were roosting. We think he was trying to get close to them so he could pounce, but they ended up flying away when a guys went across the bridge on his bike (makes lots of clunking noises).
Oh no, Vienna, I hope you can figure it out. =\
Moxie, yeah, I remember when it got to 50 here. It felt so good! It has been unusually warm for about a month now. We hit a record high on Monday.
Okay, serious question and I apologize if I seem dumb here. Say you have a baby (less than 3 months old). Grandparents are sick, but you have to work. It is their “turn” to babysit. Do you take the baby over to their house to have them babysit? And then, do you take the baby the next day to the other grandparents’ house after the baby had been exposed at the first set of grandparents’ house?
LBJ— IMO, if this were “MY” baby, at under 3 months of age I personally wouldn’t want to expose it to the illness in the first place. Their immune systems tend to be a lot weaker than a healthy adult’s. As for then bringing the baby to the other grandparents’ house, I think that kinda has many factors, such as age/health of the grandparents, type of illness (like just a minor head cold vs the flu), and weather or not the grandparents want to be exposed to that illness. I know whenever I’m sick I warn my grandparents so they can say if they want to reschedule or can be prepared and not hug me, lol.
I don’t think that was even an answer to your question LBJ… ![]()
The reason I’m asking is because I’m truly confused by the whole thing. My sister-in-law’s parents were sick. Gave it to the baby. My parents babysat her after that and they caught it. My parents said they hadn’t been that sick in a very long time. Now her parents are sick again. The baby was over there again. Then at my parents again. I’m just waiting for my parents to start coming down with whatever that is. I haven’t seen them in weeks because I don’t want to catch whatever they have. I got into an argument with my mom because I seriously don’t understand why they would send her somewhere where people are sick and then send her somewhere else to get other people sick. If this was a daycare (rather than time being split between two sets of grandparents) they would tell them to keep the kid home if she’s sick. And I don’t know why you would knowingly send her somewhere where it would be highly likely she would catch something. I’m just confused.
Oh, almost forgot. I picked up some raw food from the store. My dog has been snarfing it down.
Well, I guess if they have no other babysitter… but, personally, I would try to hire someone / see if the other grandparents could cover while the ones are sick. People even hire replacement nannies for when their regular nanny gets ill, cause they don’t want their kid to catch whatever.
Glad your doggy is eating the raw. ![]()
Here’s the cat tree! (Not the best pics but they will have to do for now) ![]()

It’s pretty tall, only a few inches shorter than our ceiling. ![]()
LBJ, I’m happy to hear she’s eating the raw food =)
I have no idea about babies =/
That is a great tree, Moxie. She is a very lucky kitty!
LBJ10 Boiled chicken and rice, mashed pumpkin for an old dog, sadly it won’t make her any younger, now Babies, Aunty Pinky knows a lot about babies, you play games with them, feed them, tickle their feet, make silly noises with them, pull funny faces at them, then when they are wet or they have a full nappy (Diaper) You give them back to their parents
Unless you are the parent of a young one, then you have the lovely job of cleaning your son or daughter, anyway if you LBJ10 are going to look after baby it depends what the illness is, if baby hasn’t got the illness maybe someone could bring baby to the door with a change of clothes, then when you get her there, iron the change of clothes and put them on baby and wash the clothes baby had on before, an iron gets rid of infection because of the heat.

I wasn’t taking care of her. I was just confused that they were knowingly spreading an illness around between 3 different households. I would think that if someone is sick, then they shouldn’t watch the baby. Not only does the baby get sick, but she gets everyone else sick who takes care of her after that. It doesn’t make sense to me. But, what do I know? All I know is I haven’t seen my parents in weeks because I don’t want to catch it too. And my husband is like Jerry Seinfeld (let’s see who gets that joke).
OMG, the dog’s food smells like old bologna! It stinks up the entire house! LOL She’s been eating it though…
Haha. Our old dog only likes the really, really strong smelling wet dog food since she can’t smell very well anymore at her age. I feel ya on it stinking up the place.
Moxie, I would still be bundled like an eskimo at 50 degrees! It’s been high 70s down here lately and I love it! The only downfall is I can’t have the windows open too long or the bunnies get fussy. They like their AC!
We’re getting close to baby time! I had another appointment yesterday and they couldn’t quite tell if the baby had flipped or not… they think that she has but because they aren’t 100% sure I have an ultrasound scheduled for my next visit. If she’s breech then, then we have to look into manually turning her to prevent breech or C-section birth. I really don’t like the idea of C-section because I take a ridiculously long time to heal from even minor abdominal surgery/procedures… I couldn’t imagine going through that much muscle and tissue and being able to function! @_@ My husband would pretty much be forced to stay home and take care of both me and the baby for a few months!
In other news, I had an old friend stop by yesterday and she and some other friends are coming by for a small shower today. The girl that was by today has had bunnies since she was 14 but doesn’t currently since her Vader (little black bun) passed. They’re just not ready for another bun yet but my buns loved getting to meet her.
Vinny acted a bit shy but Velvet and Tilly gave her some kisses and Duncan checked her for treats. It will be fun to see what they do when she comes back today.
Lol Moxie and Pinky.
Luv those memes.
As a former New Englandah, that,s wicked cool.
3 seasons: Winter, Mud, Summer
LOL Pam! Some years we only have one season: Mud.
LBJ, dogs luuuuuve smelly food! I recommend green tripe. The smell is unparalleled. It makes my dog go berzerk with joy.
CT, I hope you don’t have to have a C-section!
bam, if there was tripe in my house its for my tummy, just like baby rusks, not for baby they are for Aunty Pinky ![]()
That moment where you stir the rice you’re cooking for dinner and suddenly realize you grabbed the dog’s spoon by mistake. Yep, that’s how my day has been going.
In other news, I think I just got 3 bunnies worth of fur off Wooly. He’s busy sulking as we speak.
It’s super dry here, which is a bad thing. It means when the spring rains come, they will be insane. Last spring we had two storms back-to-back. It rained 9 inches the first time and 7 inches the second. o_O
LOL Yep. I know those days.
My housekeeper can’t come today because of the storm, so not only is Chewie due for a serious brushing and lint-rolling, but I’ll also have to vacuum while there’s still thunder and gale-force wind outside. He will be one grumpy bun.
I thought it was always sunny in Kuwait. Like 365 days/year.
Wooly finally let me have a look at him this morning (he was that mad). He looks like half a bunny!
bam: nah… it rains (pours) from time to time.
And since my flat is seaside, I get a lot of the squalls that don’t make it farther inland.
Came home to find a strange puddle on the floor in front of the kitchen sink. Turns out water leaked from somewhere. Everything under the sink was soaked. *sigh*
Oh no LBJ10, you are having some bad luck, better luck tomorrow.
I’m cursed I tell you!
<–Closes spell book, smiles. Oh you were saying LBJ10?
I knew it!
Wow, it’s already almost Easter!
The “Puppies” will be turning a year old soon. (We don’t know when exactly since they are rescues) But we figured since they were about 8 weeks their birthday would fall somewhere between the last week of march and the first week of April. We are going to celebrate April fools day (the first), since my mother thought my dad was playing a trick on her and really just pet sitting them. ![]()
Easter is early-ish this year. I don’t like Easter in March because the weather usually isn’t very nice. =\
Moxie, what a shock for your mother! Your dad was so great to take the puppies in. I know I’ve said it before, but it’s still true =)
I like Easter whenever it is =)
So after a saga i’ll only bore the rabbit with, I have solved where the leak was coming from.
From the base of the swan neck within the big nut but above the washers… changing swan neck didn’t work, it must be a micro-micro-mm out !!!
Haha !! So I’ve encircled nasty tiny rust hole with teflon tape… (you know the plumbing kind really really thin), rescrewed big nut over it and the little blighter is watertight now !!
Gotcha, you little ****bleeeep**** !
![]()
That was really clever of you Vienna!
Well, yeeees, but we’ll see how long it lasts before I have to change the whole lot !!! LOL
I’m only on here (not Facebook BB) – does anyone have any news from NBO123 with Bam and girlfriend Sophie…. they go so well together and last I read they were having teething probs with their bonding….
It’s so upsetting seeing all the ads up for “baby easter bunnies”.
I’ve seen SOO many, saying stuff like “Great first pet” “They’re just a bigger version of a hamster” “Only $5 to make your child smile on Easter. Come get yours quick, the rest will be sold as feeders after the 28th”. It’s so frustrating!
>:{
Moxie, I would explode with anger! I’m so glad we don’t have the easter-bunny tradition in Sweden. Just on cards and little statues and egg-cups and stuff, not live bunnies. I hope and I do think most people here would find the idea very upsetting. It’s so genuinely sad. I’d NOT like Easter if we had that tradition.
Vienna, I’m sorry to say I’ve no info on NBO123. Bam and Sophie really is the most stunning couple of buns. The Universe must have meant for those two to be together. Now the Universe only has to convince Bam and Sophie of that. Bunnies can be pretty stubborn though =/
Moxie I know its awful, what next? Make your child smile buy him a reindeer for Christmas? Bunnies are not Easter gifts, they don’t lay eggs and the only thing about bunnies at Easter is it is Spring and you see them running about in the fields with hares, if you are up early enough to drive through a countryside, that is about it, there is no mention of bunnies in the Bible at Easter, but bunnies get a mention if you read about St Francis of Asisi, or you might find a picture of a Nun or Priest holding a bunny, but no, they have nothing to do with Easter, bunnies are being advertised a lot here, some I have complained about to the advertisers because the bunny is too young to leave Mummy plus they are not ideal fist pets for children, if there are any little ones here, there are films about little boys and girls who help to bring up a baby bunny, but they have been brought up with Mummy and daddy who keep rabbits and have been shown how to help bunny if Mummy is ill, if a bunny is very tiny he is best left with his Mummy until he is bigger, because his Mummy can feed him and as the saying goes, ‘Mum knows best.’ (Mummy knows what is best for her children.) just the other day there were Kits (Baby rabbits) advertised, I wouldn’t have one because I have Olly, yes I’m 40 years old but its like having a baby in the house that is different and we don’t know if he is hungry because he won’t cry like a human baby and I would also be scared of dropping a baby bunny, they are so fragile.
Yes make your child smile for $5 or here £10, buy the child a colour in book of rabbits and some chocolate, or make rabbit shaped cookies for less![]()
Totally agree, Pinky! Young children should never have the responsibility to take care of a rabbit. Or, for that matter, any pet. It’s not fair to the child or to the pet! I haven’t actually seen a lot of advertising, because there’s a rabbit rescue right near my place and they do a pretty good job of keeping things down with that, but I’m sure that at pet stores there are way too many young bunnies that are WAY too young!! Since I look on Craigslist a lot, I’m disappointed to see bunnies being advertised as “Easter pets.” I’m sure that after Easter, there’ll be a truckload of them…. breaks my heart. Better to not buy a pet at all than to make it suffer with a terrible life.
Sometimes I wish I could runa a rabbit sanctuary and take in all the rabbits
Luckily, there isn’t alot of advertising here. My local shelter gets rabbits in a lot but they go fast.
Recently, I have decided to go vegetarian because I cannot bring myself to eat meat, I just get to sad…
There aren’t very many advertisements here. I don’t think people breed bunnies as much around here anymore, which is a good thing. There are currently two bunnies at the local humane society. A lot of times they have none.
Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh. That reminds me of the adverts I saw for “brightly-colored” (DYED!) chicks for Easter photoshoots the other day. They were actually dyeing baby chickens. And selling them as photo props. Where is basic human decency?
Sukka’s neck is still being a bit funky. She recently lost all her fur there and the skin turned bright red following a particularly bad megacolon flare-up. Our vet looked at it and thought it might just be an infection from the stress of the MC problems having weakened her immune system, so we got a general topical antibiotic/antifungal cream for it. We’ve been applying it for two weeks twice daily now, and while the hairless spot has definitely stopped spreading, the skin there is still a little red… It goes through phases of being like normal skin, and then it’ll be red again the next day?
Today’s the last day of the antibiotic and she’s still not getting new hair there and the skin is red today. >.< We've got a phone call time with our vet on Friday, so I'm hoping to give it a few non-antibiotic days and see if the antibiotic cream could've been what's causing the redness, since it's apparently pretty potent stuff. We'll discuss further options on Friday if it looks like the skin still isn't healing… but if this isn't just an infection or a fungal thing, I have no idea what it could be. There's no flaking and no crusting and our Tossu has no symptoms of this whatsoever, so it seems really unlikely that it's mites or anything. But if it was an infection or mites, why didn't the cream clear it up? We've been applying it for two weeks!
Our poor little bald bunny just can’t seem to catch a break lately…
I’m all for adopting animals. I wish big companies and stores would educate themselves on small animals instead of replenishing the same lines over and over (small cages for rabbits). There should be an overhaul of treats, bedding, etc. I usually pick up stuff for my dogs, so I get to see what they stock on shelves and in feed stores, and it’s just perpetrating the myth that rabbits require the same amount of care as Robo Hamsters, etc (I used to keep fancy mice as pets).
I am happy that you cannot just buy a rabbit from a store here, but a lot of people ask me, “Are you going to breed your rabbits?”, which makes me think that we’ve still got a far bit to go on rabbit education. I always tell people that there are plenty of rabbits to adopt. People don’t really even know that (most times) an animal gets the snip before they leave the shelter. I think a lot of us just find these things out once we own bunnies.
If I weren’t allergic to cats, I think I would’ve studied to be a vet. I would really love to see more small animal vets on staff in the major pet retailers, in the future. We’re all kinda clueless till we meet people who show us a better way. BB does a great job for the online community. I would just like to see correct marketing for rabbits, since a lot of people buy/ adopt them.
Ooof… here in Kuwait the majority of the population doesn’t even celebrate Easter (for obvious reasons) and yet rainbow coloured (painted) tiny chicks and baby buns are everywhere year round because they’re used as party favours (aka, serial killer practice pets). It makes me want to cry with frustration. Especially since the buns who do make it to adulthood are then abandoned, or mistreated cruelly, or if lucky end up in our one really good shelter where no one (except me, apparently) is interested in adopting them. Ho hum. ![]()
That’s terrible, Q8bunny- that there are painted chicks?! I’m sorry that there’s no one adopting from the shelter. I can’t stand this time of year where pets are treated as just things. Where I live, pets are considered property. Like a car. It’s terrible.
I guess I won’t talk about the NZ “Easter bunny shoot”….
To be fair the high quantities of buns ARE a HUGE problem on such a small agricultural self-sufficient island (x2)…. ![]()
My mother in law has talked about how they would get dyed chicks and ducklings for Easter when she was a kid. She lived on a farm and they sold dyed chicks and ducklings at the supply store. They would get them for Easter and then they would simply put them in with the other birds they were raising. I suppose people didn’t see the harm in it back then.
Still working on my data. It will be 2 weeks before I can go back since next week is spring break. =\
Now I’m off to teach a class. It’s for my job. We teach single session classes to fulfill the education requirements set by the grant funds we receive.
I actually read a story for the #MakeMineChocolate campaign (has anyone around here heard of it?) and someone found a rabbit who was abonded in the streets after Easter. It was died neon pink waste down for the holiday!
Good grief, who would dye a bunnies coat? I know people dress up their pets, LPT dressed her bunnies up but that is different and LPT will make sure it is safe, I used to take animals with me when I did disco parties for children, but if the dog or rabbit I took did not want to wear a party hat, it was OK, but no, dye is bad for bunny skin, no we don’t put things like that on animals, ABANDONED I hope who found him gave him a good home, yes we have Make Mine Chocolate in UK, when I get things sorted I’ll be buying from their shop to help support the bunnies.
You’d be shocked at how desensitized people are to animal welfare in some parts of the world (too many parts, if you ask me…).
When I take Chewie out to play or shop (he needs to taste-test the produce), I get so many bug-eyed people doing double takes, or sniggering at us and making comments about not forgetting the carrots and stewing potatoes.
It’s like they can’t compute the fact that this little soul and I share a life together, and that I love him with all my heart.
Easter is coming so soon!
Where is the time going? ![]()
Q8bunny – It doesn’t matter where you live, people always seem to want to make rabbit stew jokes. Even my coworkers have made comments.
I know Moxie! It’s insane that we’re halfway through March already. I mean, I’m anxious for spring but it still seems like time is just flying by.
Recently joined- and I’m going to be bringing home a young double mane lionhead buck from Dana Cole in Riverside, CA in two weeks! Just as a sole pet bunny. I’m really looking forward to it, so I hope nothing goes awry… I just went out and bought the whole shopping list, including timothy hay, toys, and a 1 story cat condo.
I always wanted a cat condo myself LOL. Never thought it would be for a bunny.
Also remembering my first bunny, a mysterious dwarf mix from a pet store when I was 4 years old. I named him Bunnybunbun at that age… And he lived until 12 years old and died of old age! He was an unneutered male, but was always extremely nice and kind for his entire life, towards everybody, no matter the circumstances. I can pick him up and take him out to pet any time, and he would love it and lick my hands and arms. He only gets annoyed and stomps when I put him back in the cage. Otherwise, he was literally a perfect bunny.
I didn’t learn until recently (I’ve been told recently by shelter bunny volunteers) that unneutered males often have behavioral issues and aggression due to hormones. It really put me off a bit, because I thought that all bunnies were sweet and loving, like my past bunny. How true is it? Was Bunnybunbun really just a rarity for a pet shop bunny?
Hi Fiona! Many unneutered boys do exhibit hormone-driven behaviors that can be unpleasant, this is true. Not all of them do though. The rarity in your childhood bunny is that he seemed to like being held. The vast majority of bunnies do not like to be held, whether desexed or not. It is just how bunnies are and should be expected. ![]()
Hi LBJ! That is interesting- I hope my lionhead boy doesn’t develop behavioral issues later on, but I will be neutering him. The breeder assured me that both he and his parents are particularly kind and love people, so I hope he can carry this personality through his life! Do bunny temperaments change much through life stages, or going to a different owner, or is it relatively consistent?
I see, do you mean held as in being picked up/held in our arms? Or just sitting on our laps?
I have a feeling I’ll have a lot of questions in the coming couple months haha… I’m a 100% newbie to bunny behavior and body language, other than sitting and being friendly, since my childhood bunny was just the same friendly guy throughout his life.
A lot of bunnies are friendly when they are babies, but can become more stand-offish as they mature. So, it’s possible your boy might not be quite as friendly as he gets older. My bunnies much prefer to be on the floor. My male loves to be pet, but doesn’t want to be held. My female will come to me when she feels like it, otherwise she wants left alone. They are kinda like cats, honestly. Affection is on their terms. ha
Hi Fiona,
If a rabbit hates being picked up, he might just hate being in a lap, full stop.
My girl will allow me to pick her up and hug her. My boy hates it, but is more overtly affectionate. Rabbits don’t have a set personality, in my opinion – their traits vary, and they show their affection differently.
The beauty in gaining the trust of a prey species is that the fruit is sweeter, so to speak. A rabbit may hate you picking her up, but when she lets you into her circle of trust (which will probably not include lap time), you’ve probably earnt it.
This probably sounds disheartening and awfully boring, but in reality, rabbits are so sweet, playful, cheeky, and funny, etc, that you will be amazed how unique your rabbit is – not that this is a scientific statement, but – no one else will have a rabbit like yours. They come out of their shell, and it’s like their personality is magnified.
Thanks for the replies, guys
I guess his adult personality will be a mystery that I’ll find out for myself.
When I read “disheartening and awfully boring”, I was expecting you to say something like rabbits are boring and unfriendly! That
would’ve been disheartening, since I just spent over $100 buying rabbit stuff.
Sweet, playful, cheeky, funny, and unique just make me more excited for my boy bunny. Can’t wait to see!
Oh, haha, I meant to attach that statement to the previous paragraph (meaning it might be disheartening if you expect them to be okay with lap time, etc, and they just won’t have any of it). That was a bit of a typo.
It is an exciting time for you. It’s taken a good 5 months for one of my rabbits to open up some (I spend time with her every day), but she is even more hilarious and feisty than I thought, and she often has me chuckling with her little “protesting” head shakes and such.
I always say that baby bunnies are like a box of chocolates.
Come on Bam, you have to get that one!!!!!
Rabbits aren’t the boring pets some people think. They go into ownership blindly and don’t tale proper care. So, they are seeing the depressed and unhappy sides of their rabbit. Congratulations and welcome to the fourms!
Well, AT&T just informed us that after December of this year, our dumb phones will no longer be supported by the network. How dare they try to force us to get smart phones! ![]()
Just a few more days and we’ll get to pick up our kitten! So excited! ![]()
Fiona: Welcome to BB! I hope your bun turns out to be cuddly and sweet. Some do, some don’t, there’s a wide range of personalities.
LBJ, I do get that one =) Run, Forrest, run!
Fiona, there are many boy buns that never develop behavioral issues. Some only develop behaviors that are very impractical, like pee-spaying and poop-marking. And then there are a few that become aggressive and territorial. I actually think intact does are worse in that department, but have no scientific support for this notion. In the wild, the does are the bosses of the warren, so that might be the reason why they tend to be extra territorial. But does should be spayed for health-reasons regardless of behavior, so that’s a big difference between them and boys.
I have a very big problem, and it’s sad too…I need to decide what I’m going to do with my little fuzzball when i go to college in the fall. My brother has expressed some interest in caring for him, but I need a plan B.
bfeore anyone asks: no, the dorm doesn’t allow animals, and yes, I am 100% going to college in the fall.
Ideas, anyone?? I know I have time, but this year is going by very quickly
I think you should have your brother or a friend. Make sure to give them specific lessons on rabbit care.
Hazel— Yay! You must be so excited!!
My mother’s dream cat is a Maine Coon. =)
MK— I’d only allow somebody who I trust a lot watch over one of my “babies”. Whoever you choose, have a sit down and talk to them, explain the situation, explain rabbit care, warning signs, ect. So that everybody is clear on what’s happening and informed. ![]()
Hey Everyone! Sorry about my long absence I did most of my Binky bunny reading at night while I was on my break at work. Now I work day shift and I don’t usually get a break anymore! How is everyone fairing?
That’s tough MK. I think it would be best to leave your bunny with your family. Perhaps after your first year, you can move into an apartment with some other people where you could keep him with you.
Hi Shannon! Long time no see!

Mother’s Day is coming up, you know… ![]()
MK: Whoever ends up taking care of your bun, make sure everyone knows what’s expected of them, in terms of caring for the bun as well as in terms of money. Who pays for the day to day things like food? If there was an emergency, who is responsible for the vet bills? You want everyone to be on the same page just in case anything goes wrong.
I’m at my desk, wading through 50 English 11 exams and a stack of AP essays. Kiiiiiiiiiiiiill meeeeeeeee.
*I’d rather be home with my bunny*
Vibes for Cash. She’s been at the vet for over 3 hours now and we haven’t heard back yet. ![]()
(((((((((Cash))))))))
And hugs for you, LBJ.
((((((Cash))))) Keep us updated!
I am very interested in “Unique” animals, lol. I’m going to be touring a local Emu “farm” (the guys breeds them, and takes great care of them, we know the guy but have never visited) soon. I’ve always thought they were so cool.
I really want an alpaca or two sometime in the near future, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon. *sigh* LOL
Easter is so close, does anybody have any special plans? We might be visiting my brother’s house. ![]()
She’s home now. We’re not sure what caused it, but she was really bloated. Her stomach was so full of gas that it was squishing her lungs and she was having a hard time breathing. She kept dry heaving, I guess because her stomach felt so full. The vet kept her so they could put a tube down her nose to relieve the pressure. They gave her a sedative, so she’s still kind of out of it. I tried to get her to eat a gas X tablet, but she didn’t want to eat it. I ended up giving her some of the rabbits’ gas drops instead. I hope she starts to snap out of it soon. I want her to feel hungry enough to eat something. =\
I love emus Moxie.
Moxie – That’s cool.
We used to have an emu as a friend for my horse (she hated the goat we got on the advice of a local horse farm person, but the emu she was fine with… go figure) but when we had to rehome the horse, she got lonely so we found an emu “farm” (a woman who breeds them and treats them like her kids) and she went to live there. They’re really cool birds. But, their way of showing affection can be painful! (love bites) lol
*sigh* It’s 10:30pm and she is still groggy. She just wants to sleep. She ate a little bit of chicken earlier, but none of her “own” food. I have antibiotic pills for her too, but I’m not sure how to get her to take them if she doesn’t want to eat. Hmm, maybe she would like some cheese……
More vibes for (((((((Cash)))))))
Thanks guys. She was perkier this morning. She was able to walk around and go to the bathroom by herself. I managed to get her to take the antibiotic and gas tablet willingly. She was happy to accept treats but she didn’t want her food. If she doesn’t want to eat later, I’ll try some chicken since she at some last night. Poor thing. She’s just so old. My husband was really scared. He thought she was dying and called me at work to come home.
My youngest son has just been presented for an award for being the only student at his college in the past ten years to get 100% on two consecutive physics papers. For those familiar with the UK system, these were papers one and two of the physics A level, and he sat both papers a year early to make it even more of an achievement.
He also won an award last week for coming second in a UK wide maths challenge that was open to all 16-18 year olds. He is only 16 and had no help from anyone, winning himself a £50 Amazon kindle voucher.
GJ, WOW! That’s some son! That’s just crazy impressive!!
LBJ, so glad to hear she’s doing better, thanks for the update! I was worried. When I have to give my dog a pill I just put it far back on her tongue, close her mouth and keep it closed while I stroke her throat (to evoke the swallowing reflex). That’s perhaps not a nice method but I doubt I’d ever be able to make her swallow a pill voluntarily. Sometimes she still manages to keep it in her mouth and spit it out though. I hope Cash will eat something soon, even if it’s chicken and not her own food. Sending many hugs to all three of you.
I am very proud of him. He has got an offer to study maths at Cambridge University this year, if he gets the grades this summer.
He also volunteered once a week for three months at the animal rescue Gina’s potential husbun comes from. The rescue is 19 miles away, and he cycled both ways every week.
When he was nine, he said he wanted a rabbit for his birthday. I explained that rabbits cost a lot in terms of buying a cage, a run for the garden, and food, plus any vets bills, and if he wanted a rabbit, all those costs meant he would not get a party or any other presents. He agreed to this, and for his 9th birthday, we adopted our first rescue bunny, a girl he called Chelsey. He kept his side, and never asked for anything else, though he did get a few sweets and a chocolate cake.
Chelsey was rescued from an awful situation, by the RSPCA, where she had been kept shut in a garage along with something like 17 ferrets and two cats. She had never be properly fed, and had a stomach that got upset if she ate anything fresh, even grass. In spite of this, she loved being outside in the garden, and loved to stand with the wind blowing her fur the wrong way. She also liked having it rubbed the wrong way, and standing out in the rain.
LBJ, I’m also glad to hear Cash has at least managed some chicken.
Well, she ate some of her regular food later today. She seems better. I feel so bad because we don’t know what caused it. I’m scared it will happen again. =\
GJ I have no clue what that means, but if that’s impressive then I will believe you.
It sounds like your son is going to go on to do great things.
Eating her regular food sounds promising, but I can well imagine not knowing is scary. Really hoping it was a one off and she will go from strength to strength.
In a nut shell, my younger son, who I home schooled from age 12-15, is outclassing students two years older than himself, including those who’ve been educated at the top fee-paying schools in the country
he also loves animals, a lot! My eldest is also doing really well, he has had to contend with multiple disabilities (hence the home schooling of both boys), and in his own way, has achieved just as well as his brother, even if he doesn’t get presented with any awards
He is all set to head off to university to take on a physics masters degree this Oct, and with both boys out the house, I will need my bunny babies just as much as they need me!
Just under 10 hrs til our bunny hopeful and his foster mum call round. Please, everyone send out tons of positive vibes, this little boy needs a home as much as Gina needs a bonded bunny friend.
Hey GJ – didn’t know you were UK bound ! Guess I thought pretty much the maj were on the other side of the pond…
Great for your boys. 100% is majorly impressive on its own, let alone in 2 papers and early !!!! you’ve obv got some strong genes going on there !
My nephew will be sitting his GCSEs in a couple of months – we’re not a very studious family (but very sporty!) and I’m wondering if cash rewards would motivate him more (he’s money driven, unlike my n°2 nephew !)… I have arguments for both sides of the debate, but if it works for him, does it matter?? It’s the final results that count !…. hmm still thinking how much per good result….. £5 per A (unlikely!) is NOT going to motivate him…. LOL
If he’s sporty, would something like tickets to watch a game do the trick, the better the results the bigger the game, or the better the meal out after or something like that?
Well he’s lucky, he’s already been to Wimbledon,a golf open and goes out to meals…. he’s a “brand” guy…. just so long as its got a brand on it…. !!
(Not like his auntie at all !!!)
But that could be an idea…. maybe one pair Calvin Klein boxers (he nearly cried when I gave him a pair for Xmas!! bless) , or one driving lesson voucher per C or above…!!
I think I’ll ask him…. it’s go to be something that will motivate HIM.
So my dad’s birthday is in a month and I think this shirt would be a very fitting gift lol: http://www.animalhearted.com/collections/all-products/products/one-dog-short-of-crazy
It says “one dog short of crazy.” But I mean we only have 4 dogs.

That’s cute Moxie.
Holy cow, is March almost over? ![]()
Chewie’s hay bin was running low, so I had planned on driving to Petzone this morning to pick up a couple more small bags of the Oxbow Botanical. Only to wake up to the storm still raging – and since Petzone is clear on the other side of the country (small country), I figured I’d have it delivered. So I go on their website, and before you can say binky, I’ve also ordered a rattling mouse (after his beach ball, furball’s favourite toys are rattling cat toys) and a Pawise Cat Puzzle – sort of like a Teach ‘n Treat.
All we really needed was the hay! And now, this afternoon somebunny’s getting presents. In my next life, I want to be a pampered house bunny. ![]()
I just wanted put it out there that my post count is still higher than LEL’s….. Giggle!
Didn’t I say that I talked toooooo much??? Ha ha ha ha…..
Andi, you can never talk too much
Moxie, that’s a cute t-shirt and It seems very right for your father.
Q8, I have to order oat hay online, but in order to get free shipping I have to order a lot more than hay and that’s an excellent excuse for buying extra bunny stuff ![]()
That website has a whole bunch of shirts that are so funny. There’s a whole bunch of them I want. ![]()
I just wanted to tell you guys that we finally named our new bunny! Her names is Jitterbug. She still isn’t eating well (she has been in GI stasis since we got her) but her condition is more stable. Kraken is very excited to have a girl in the house and he had been buzzing and binkying by her pen to show off.
“FREE” (?!) shipping ” – I LAUGH OUT LOUD !! Ho ho ho….. ho !
That’s an oxymoron if ever I heard one !!!!!! It’s never free, because we ALL find excuses just to have one more click here and there…. LOL.
It’s actually scary that it’s so easy – I’m not surprised so many people are in debt up to their necks… “just” another click here and there… easy peasey
It’s simple maths = ” outgoings should be less than or equal (!) to incomings”… or else you’re in bunny trouble !! Even if they do have cutey cutey faces !
However, the other well known phrase “easier said than done”‘ is also relevant….
Do you start topics to chat with yourself Andi? (Wait… that’s Moxie!) Sheesh! I better get on it!
Would anyone participate in a diet/fitness/health thread? I know LBJ started one a while back that I greatly enjoyed. I was thinking of starting another.
NoOoOoOoOoOoOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Nessie!!!! It’s Nessie!!!! And I do hope Nessie feels better soon. Poor girl.
Andi, you absolutely could never EVER talk too much.
LEL, I would be interested in reviving that topic.
I saw an eagle today! Flew right over me.
Reminded me of my girl.
Oh, that satisfying moment when you pick up the “garage sale” sign that someone put in your yard without asking (we live on a corner), find the house it came from, and firmly stick it into the ground in front of their house.
It appeared Friday morning and didn’t disappear come Monday. The address was on a street in the neighboring neighborhood. There is no easy way to get to it from where they posted the sign (I had to check Google Maps and then weave through a bunch of residential streets to find it).
LEL: YES!
I came across the older thread just the other day and was wishing we could do it again this year – I need to get back in shipshape before a two-week walking holiday end of June.
Picking up my little lionhead boy this weekend… I am overly excited!
So excited, in fact, that I had a nightmare last night that I drove to the breeder and the bun hated me for no reason. Lunging and wanting to bite. ;; And the breeder said, “He’s never acted like this before! I don’t know what has happened.” And then I drove him home anyway, and he bit me. LOL
That was my nightmare of the week. :I But in reality, I’ve been assured by the breeder that this bunny does not have a bad bone in him, and neither do either of his parents. The breeder “guarantees” her bunnies and guarantees this bun to be kind, quote quote. So hopefully this nightmare is the complete opposite of what would happen!
I’m jealous, Fiona! Best of luck picking up your little guy, I’m sure he’ll be wonderful. I can’t imagine any baby bunny being THAT much of a terror!
Really starting to miss having a bunn around. Missed it before of course but it’s been almost 3 months now, I’ve never even lived this long without a pet in my life before, which I think it’s what’s making it so tough. At least my mum recently took in a cat so I do get a dose of kitty every time I visit her
Really looking forward to when I can adopt again. I would love to do it right now, but I’m trying to do the responsible, adult thing and make sure I have some more money saved away first. Being responsible sucks ![]()
Fiona: can’t wait to see doting mom pics of your baby bun.
Azerane: Agreed. Being a responsible adult stinks. LOL But just think how lovely it’ll be once you can give a forever home to another bunbun. ![]()
Thanks guys, I can’t wait! Many photos will ensue for sure… My nikon is ready.
A random question- I bought this plastic x-pen on amazon. (IRIS 8 panel pen) I’m wondering if a bunny would bite a hole through it? O_O I only just realized that this is a possibility… and I hope that does not happen! This pen was pricier than the usual wire kind! LOL
Yep, really looking forward to having another bunny, plus I also want to do some upgrades to my c&c condo when that happens so I’m excited about that too
Fiona, from memory I’ve seen people use that type of playpen with a rabbit before. While not suitable for all rabbits (wouldn’t trust it with a giant breed) it will probably be fine. Obviously if you notice chewing on it you may have to change it out, but bunnies don’t really like chewing on hard plastic that I’ve noticed.
Having another Rocky Horror Picture show moment LBJ! Science fiction…. double feature…. Blair is on holiday and being loud – I warned him!!!
Edit/ADD – Eddie and ‘I’m going home’ are still my fav’s….
my heart reacts to BOTH!
I so seriously would have loved to take YOU to our broadway show – it really was THAT good (FUNNY- super funny! and the music was brilliant!), you would have loved it! I’ve seen a lot of shows and Rocky Horror is still a stand out to me these few years later…. Jersey Boys was a very close second. I never told you… Den’s wedding song was from Jersey Boy’s and I didn’t know that they chose it till it played – I cried while I danced with him. Happy tears!!! Proud tears! Damn my kiddies are awesome!!!
EDIT
Sorry… forget it – it’s no biggy!
Andi, I’m sure it was a great show!
I should totally just come and see you. We can watch it on TV together. Hehehe! At least you danced to the song. My parents requested a song at my wedding reception and then didn’t dance to it…….. =\
Hard plastic is generally safe for bunnies, but I suppose a really determined one might make a hole in the pen. It would take awhile though.
Ugh, I’m so tired. I can’t go to sleep at night and then I can’t get up in the morning. It’s awful. *sigh*
April fools day is tomorrow! Anybody have any cool pranks? ![]()
I’m going to get up extra early and reset all the clocks in my building common areas. teeheehee
Q8— Awesome.
Some of my “evil” plans include:
Walking behind family members with a spray bottle and pretending to sneeze on them. (it works too because I’m sick rn so it’s believable!)
Putting black electrical tape over the computer mouse and wii remote censors.
Putting cereal on our ceiling fans so when somebody turns them on stuff will go flying ha ha
Put sugar in the salt shaker
Changing my contact name on my mother’s phone and sending her prank texts that would look weird coming from the person ‘m claiming to be.
Offer people real peanuts, but they’ll think it’s fake and deny.
I have a few more, but I won’t bother typing them all. I know they’re all “cheesey” but if I go too extreme ppl will get seriously mad at me lol. ![]()
LOL These are great.
I considered being naughtier, but I just can’t justify the effort and time required. ![]()
I must be the only one who has never really done anything for April Fool’s Day. It’s always been a bit of a silly thing, and I’m not really one for pranking people. I do however tend to be a fan of the fake news stories. They always tickle my fancy especially if they’re particularly clever ![]()
