        Hello everyone,

Sorry if I wasn’t online since for long time because I was busy to get good grades in college. I have many questions that I need your help, please!

I’m thinking to get bigger cage for my bunny.

Right now his cage looks like this..

I know this looks like it is small cage but my cage is bigger than that.

My roommate and I agreed to built cage with white grinds. Walmart is selling it for 20 dollars plus free shipping.

I’ll get 5 boxes so I’ll have 80 grinds. It should be plenty to built the cage.

Right now, I’m strugging to find good flooring for my bunny. I do not want carpet or hard floor for my bunny. I tried to use classroom carpet (very thin carpet) but Romeo the bunny found the way to pull the carpet and chew it. I think he ate some already but he is fine now. Romeo don’t like to hop on hard floor because it is very slippery for him. I don’t want his bones will break if he will hurt himself so it will cost me a lot of money to pay vet to fix his bones. I cant let my rabbit touch any clothing material like towel or fleece on the floor because he will chew and dig on it.

I went to Home Deposit to check all flooring. So far, all I can find is vinyl flooring is good option but some vinyl flooring are obviously slippery for rabbits to hop. I’m talking about it is sorta made of rubber and I don’t think Romeo can chew this or dig on it. I think it is easily to clean up his poops or pee if he accident poop or pee on flooring.

If you have good flooring for rabbit and felt same way as I had been through then please please please tell me what kind flooring are you using for your bunny/bunnies!

Okay, next question is what kind of water dish is good for bunnies? I want it hard enough so he can push it around. I’m using this for food dish (picture below) but my bunny can push it around. I’m sure he would do same thing to water dish.

I know water dish is bad choice for rabbits because of bedding and else but my bunny ate beddings so I refuse to get any bedding for him. He will have bigger cage so it is okay to get water dish. I’ll get fresh water for him everyday.

I’m not going to make new cage soon because it will take like two weeks for white grinds to deliever.

I’ll ask more questions later so thanks for taking your time to help me out!

Hi Taurus, Romeo is a lucky bunny!  I know many have used coroplast for flooring. I don’t think it’s terribly slippery.  Are you building a cage with levels or more of a pen with the grids?  I think the distance jumping from level to level is not too much and they don’t slip too much.

Coroplast is similar to cardboard in boxes but it’s plastic.  It’s used alot to make temporary signs.

If Romeo likes to chew stuff, you could fix down some seagrass mats with cable ties.  That would make surfaces less slippery and provide him some entertainment.  Or you could just use sheets of cardboard for flooring.  Easy to get and easy to replace.

One thing I did recently was buy cheap, thin vinyl and layed it down upside down.  I found the back was less slippery but still able to be washed.

OOh I’ve been needing ideas to buy coroplast. Can you buy it at places like Walmart or Home Depot, Jerseygirl? I wanted to get something like that, or use wood underneath w/vinyl on top of it.

you can pick up coroplast at sign shops or plastic stores. Here is the bay area there is a store called “Tap Plastics” They sold me a huge huge like…10 foot sheet for 15$? This link is from the cavycages.com site, where you can put in your state and find out where a store near you is!

Yes, in Australia I’ve seen it called fluteboard and it’s in hardware stores here. Maybe also try craft suppliers, or craft sections of department stores?

Yes, I’m aware of coroplast because I used it for guinea pig’s cage. I wasn’t sure if it is okay for my bunny because he is chewer and digger. Is there such as thick coroplast?

I like seagrass mats but it will be all gone by a day or a week. He chew everything as he can.

I’ll get sample vinyl for like 99 cent and test it to see if it is worth to get vinyl for flooring. Thank you!

That is vinyl flooring? Great price! If it’s something like fabric vinyl, like for upholstery or tablecloths – I’m not sure if this would be as waterproof or as durable.

For flooring, whatever you use, if you make the base peice larger than the base of the condo, then the bunny will be less able to get to edges to chew it.

You could try laying down ceramic tiles (might want to make a frame out of 2×4 wood planks to hold the tiles in place, so they wont shift around, and then build the cage inside that frame on top of the tiles. You can get ones that are a bit textured so they won’t be as slippery, and I doubt a bunny will be able to chew those. Cloroplast might be easier though, since you can cut that to size if you need to.

As for the water bowls. They’re not bad, it’s just that some people object to using bowls since some bunnies like to play in the water or dump their bowls. I use a heavy ceramic crock. You can also get stainless steel bowls that are made so that they can’t be tipped. I find that the plastic bowls are too light.

                          Hello everyone!

Sorry for delay.. I’m done with my final exams.

I build my bunny’s cage like two months ago. It was all good except Romeo was chewing on coroplast.
I decide to rebuilt cage again without coroplast!

I decided to get hard floor for him like vinyl stones thing.
My concern is that will he freeze from touching cold floor? I live in very cold weather for most of time. I live WAY north of USA.. Near Canada. It is normal to get a lot of snow here.

I have tile floors in my house and they do get cold, but my bunny loves them! I cover it with blankets and towels and he moves them to lay on the tiles to cool off. (It is cold here, but bunnies seem to prefer cooler weather) I say try it! They are slippery, though. Nice job building your own cage! I still use a huge dog crate and an X pen because I am hopeless at building stuff.

I cannot provide towel or blankets for my bunny because he will chew and eat them.

Your bunny is cute!!! I hope he isn’t scared of slippery floors, other than that, he should be fine. I have tile floors at home and at school and Mellow is fine. He has occasionally has goofy landings for his binkies, but he has adapted fine. Mellow likes the cooler temperatures of the floors, even now in the winter. He uses his blankie and towel to chew, dig, and arrange. He chooses the bare floor to “flop” on.

You could create wood floors but cover them with sheet vinyl or cover well with contact paper. It’s too bad that your bunny eats up soft bedding that could keep him warm. Some bunnies are like that. As long as he has a little hidey house where he can go and his body heat can help be contained and keep him warm in there, then that might help.

You had said it gets cold where you live, but what is it like inside? How cold does it get inside?

I’ve discovered that Moose is a chewer, but he seems to do alright with fleece that i bought at a fabric store. He still nibbles at it, but doesnt destroy it like he did towels, and I don’t have to worry about long strings getting wound up in him. You might try a bit of fleece to see how he does with it.

Also, near canada isn’t THAT far up north
