So this is a tad long, but probably the funniest thing I’ve ever done, and it might make your monday look pretty good

on my way to work I decided to stop and get some gas in my car so i stopped at a Valero station up the street. I put the gas nozzle in the tank and put the lock on it and went around the other side of my car to get some stuff that I wanted to throw out. So as I’m going through the stuff to throw out I think "Hmm, I smell gas" which is pretty normal for a gas station but was stronger than normal, so I go around the side of the car, and the lock hadn’t worked right on the hose, and there was gas coming OUT of my tank onto the ground. So of course, I freaked out and yank the hose out of the tank, BUT unfortunately, the lock is still on so I’m spraying gas full force straight at my car which is then bouncing off the car and covering me. SO, it is my genius thought to back up to get out of the gas spray, which leads to me stepping into the ginormous puddle of gas on the ground which leads my legs to fly straight out from underneath me and me to fall flat on my back WITH the gas hose STILL spraying full force straight into the air and onto me. So finally, though still being covered in gas, I manage to get the lock unlocked and the hose FINALLY stops spraying everywhere. FOrtunately no one was around (well unfortunately because if someone had caught that on video I could be seriously famous on Utube) so I drop the hose close my gas tank, get in the car, and have a sudden fear that if I start the car I will explode. So, I wait for someone else to pull up to the gas station, expllain the situation, and ask if I will explode if I turn on my car. I must have looked soooo freaked out that the poor guy took pity on me and DIDN’t laugh and told me that, no, I would not in fact spontaneously combust. SO, realizing that I didn’t have my boss’s phone number, I had to go to work, run into her office, and found her listening to her messages. So I waited a couple minutes and then she turned around and goes "Do you smell gas?" and I just made a very sad face, and said "yes…its me…I need to go home and get new clothes, I’m covered in gas" – and there must be something about Texans and gas because she didn’t even looked surprised, she just goes, "oh, well, your hair looks cute today! see you later!"

That’s so funny (in a sort of scary way)! I would have had horrible images of some guy pulling up right then and flicking his lit match out the window and blowing me and the gas station up or something like that… then again, I have an out-of-control imagination. I’m from Dallas (Garland), too, and one thing I’ve noticed since I moved away in 2004 is that most other places seem to have removed the locks from the gas nozzle. Now we know why

Oh my word hon, I am so glad that you are OK! Is your pelvic bone OK from the impact on the pavement? Take a nice, long hot bubbly bath, sip some sparkling water and relax. Wow. Take care of yourself and you’ve got such a great attitude about it! You go girl!

Oh my God! The smell would have killed me. I can imagine something like that happening to me, though. Very graceful.

not to mention the small fortune all that gas must have cost you.

oh my goodness, I’m glad you weren’t seriously hurt! Maybe here in Texas even our alibies are bigger and your boss had heard worse…lol. I drive from a small town to Waco on the interstate everyday and I’ve had some dozies to report. Maybe it was the reference of having gas and having to change clothes….too much spicy barbq?

Holy Texas Cows!! Isn’t there supposed to be a automatic internal shutoff thing within the hose, and if it got stuck, I would think that would be the gas stations responsibility to pay for any cleaning expenses with the gas going in your car.

So I know that may not have been funny cuz it was scary, but when I read your post I was ROTFLMAO!!! THat really needs to be in a Jim Carrey Movie. Or maybe you can make your own – MooBunnay’s Mishaps!

Well, I am glad you okay and I will be looking out for a new Youtube video – this truly would have been something to watch!

Hahahaha, yes, there probably should have been a fool proof shut off – myself being the FOOL. The smell didn’t bother me to much, but I drove about 25 MPH the whole way home in terror that at any moment I was going to “poof” go up in a ball of smoke Anyways, now at least I have a great story to tell, and I’m sure I cheered up the people driving to work that saw me in the gas station with all limbs flailing in the air and gas spraying all around, hahaha

I’m glad you didn’t hurt yourself in the fall. I bet that was quite a sight.

I don’t even know how to pump my own gas, and now I am glad I don’t have to. Oregon law prohibts pumping your own gas.
OH my gosh, that sounds like the kind of thing I would do.

That’s kind of odd. Do you know the reasoning for that law?!

There’s some pretty silly laws sometimes. And the actual important ones seem to be ignored too much >:o

You can’t pump your own gas in New Jersey either.

Here’s the answer to why: http://www.infoplease.com/askeds/bans-gas-pumping.html

ooo man!! that’s one heck of an adventure I’m sure you’d rather not repeat! I am cracking up that your boss’ comment to your being covered in gas was that your hair looked nice – rofl!!! and boohooo for all the expense of the wasted gas 🙁

MooBunnay, it really makes me wonder if that attendant wasn’t paying attention as they have a shut off inside and should have noticed and shut it off rather than letting it spew all over and well hey, you have a new line of hair products you can start now, right?

I never knew why we could not pump, but now I don’t feel so bad knowing that oregon isn’t the only state. I know that we used to have a self service gas line for commercial (small businesses) but those got closed down about 10 years ago.
