        Hey

Curious to know what you guys use as floors in your bunny condos and where you got the floors/supplies to build the floors? (like not the specific names of stores, just tell me if you think a hardware store or whatever type you know! )We are making a condo as soon as rupert and the girls bond, and we’ve never had one before.

i bought an 8′ x 4′ piece of sign board to line the floors with.  the draw back with this is no traction but since baby has plenty of time out & about on the rug i wasn’t too worried.  i chose it because A… i wanted plain white, B… i wanted to be able to cut specific sizes & shapes and C… i wanted to be able to pull out the floors to spray off / scrub as needed in the tub.

          i’m re-doing baby’s bedroom condo too!  i found nic’s on sale … $10 for 13 panels… so i can expand.  yay.

i’m excited for you k&k!!!  it’ll be fun to build new castle for your buns!!!  plus very exciting to bond rupert into the fam

edited to add… i called a sign shop by my place for the board & explained what i needed it for so they didn’t think i was making signs out of it.  they cut it in half for me so i could squish it into my wee vw.

My floor is a 4′ x 4′ piece of 1/2" plywood (half a sheet), covered with a remnant of linoleum flooring.  The flooring is glued and stapled to the plywood, and there is a molding around the edge to keep hay/poops inside.

I got the plywood at a lumber yard, I just asked them to cut the sheet in half for me and they did it for no extra charge.  I got the linoleum remnant at a carpet store, they sell them when there are leftovers from cutting pieces off of big rolls.

the floor of our house is coroplast, which seriously rocks! super easy clean up with some vinegar / water too.
you can buy it from sign shops or on ebay.

We made the cage last night!! Well, actually….DAVE built the cage last night hehe….He researched the cube enclosures on this site, and yeh, he wanted to do coroplast. We picked it up at a home repair type store. I’m super impressed with it and everyone seems happy. It’s good because it’s ready to be set up so all floors are accessible by all, but at the moment, Rupert has the bottom floor (two high) and the girls have the top two floors one high each; I’ll get Dave to post some pics when he rolls out of bed sometime today

How do you make "corners with edges" (tray type construction) with the coroplast?  what do you use to attach it together?

We are picking up a sheet tomorrow to work on modding Cotton’s habitat this weekend.  And it does pay to shop around for Coro-plast.  The first sign shop we called wanted $35 for a sheet of 8′ x 4′ navy- and anadded fee for cutting in in half to get into my car!!  The second place we called quoted us $19 and they would cut it in half for free so we could get it home.  And we verified that at both places it was 4mm Navy.  I don’t think they have "walk-in" sales very often- so it could be worth it to check around and see different pricing policies.

We could not find Coro-plast or equivalent at Home Depot or Lowe’s- home supply stores.  And to get it shipped added a LOT to the cost.

I kinda wish that I did not have to score it or cut it to get it home- but oh, well should not matter too much.

                  Julie

Good job hunting around! We asked when we got to the store and the guy had no idea what we were talking about. Finally we found it and they had lots!

My boyfriend made it; But I did watch. Here’s what he did. He cut a square with approximately a couple of inches on all sides extra. Then measured the square inside to fit the bottom. Then he took an exacto-knive (sp?) and slit (but did not cut all the way through) along those lines and folded the corners up. So on each of the four points, there was a square to remove, and it fits in nicely….

umn…Not so good at expaining things….Does this make sense? If not I could maybe draw what i mean!

                      Hi Julie,

We had it cut to measurements when we bought it, so were able just to fit it exactly in. I’m not the greatest with straight cutting, so was glad not to have to do it on my own. Ours isn’t glued or affixed, but since it’s cut just right it doesn’t slide around at all

                        Ok, here’s a drawing…The four corners, that are marked with a squiggle, those get taken right out, cut them out and off;

The four sides, are what is "spined" by using the exacto knive to cut it; And then fold up!
