Hello all, my one year old bunny has found a new past time: grunting his disapproval at everything and lunging if you come near him too quickly or go into his pen or “room”. Last night I sat down to pet him in his pen and every time I moved he lunged at me teeth barred and grunting. Normally he is a very sweet boy so this is not usually like him. I’m assuming this is a territorial thing but I was actually scared of getting bitten last night which is a first. Any thoughts on the behaviour/ how to nip it in the bud? Much appreciated!!

Is he neutered yet/when was he neutered? It could be hormones for territory.

Another potential is there’s something bothering him health wise. Both lethargy and biting are signs a rabbit is uncomfortable. Any changes in poop, pee, or appetite?

He was neutered about 9 months ago. And he seems fine other wise. He is eating playing outside the pen. It’s just when I go into his pen he gets like that. I’m thinking it’s a territory thing.

It sounds like it is a territorial thing… are you going into his pen to do maintenance, like litter box cleaning, water, food… etc? If so, maybe you can try to do those things while he is not in it or even around to see you going into it? At least until he calms down a little bit…
