I went to trim Benny’s nails tonight and noticed a lump/growth on the inside if his front foot (like by his thumb) that is about the size of a large pea. It must have developed in the last week or so. Benny was just to the vet 2 weeks ago to get fixed and the vet didn’t mention anything. I’m calling the vet first thing in the morning. Has anyone seen this before or heard of something like this ? We are worried.

        Thanks

How big is the lump, color, etc. Is it firm or soft, movable, hot? If it’s not on the other paw (symmetrical) then its a very good idea to have it checked out.

If it’s symmetrical (on the other paw too) it’s very likely you just noticed something that’s always been there. Keep us posted!!

I tried to inspect it to see if I could tell if it is an infection or something like that. It is hard, but movable, looks to be right at the joint where his foot connect to his leg. There is no open sore that I can see. It just looks like his skin is stretched super tight.

He doesn’t have anything similar on his other leg. But it doesn’t seem like it is bothering him, I made a vet appointment so we will get him in and get it figured out. Hopefully it is just something that the vet can drain.

Since he was just in to be fixed, could that be the spot where the vet gives him his IV ?

Is the area shaved at all?  usually if a pet has an IV catheter in they shave the area to keep the area as clean as possible since it is an entry into the bloodstream.

On bunnies their large ear vein often provides a good place to draw blood, etc.  If your bunny does not have a shaved spot- they might have given him SQ fluids- which is giving the fluids under the skin and the body slowly absorbs them.  They might have opted to do that than spend extra time trying to get an IV cath in- that just adds to the anesthesia time.

The area isn’t shaved. So it must be unrelated. I inspected it more closely, it isn’t discolored. It is just hard to tell if there is some type of hard tissue in there or what. His fur is kind of thick. Do you think it could be some sort of ingrown nail situation ???

We took Benny in and they took a biopsy of the growth. They said it looked like a tumor and that they could remove it. Benny passed away during surgery. They think the tumor was a manifestation of probably more cancer that was inside. We loved him so so much. He was only with us for a few months but he was out\r boy. We will miss him so very much.

I am so sorry for your loss…((((Hugs)))) to you and your family and I hope you find comfort in the thought that your vigilance probably saved sweet Benny weeks or months of internal (and carefully hidden) pain and suffering.

Oh, I’m so very sorry to hear about Benny passing away, that must have been a shock. I know how attached you can get no matter how short a time you’ve had them, they just endear themselves to your soul. ((soft bunny hugs to you))
