I know most people won’t have experience, so this is really just a shot in the dark. As most of you know, Bombur was diagnosed with EC at the beginning of February and went through a 28 day course of Oxibendazole, which seemed to help, but his symptoms returned a few weeks later. We were put on 14 days more of Oxibendazole which just ended on Saturday, and he was given the refill to continue for another 14 days. I just got a call from the vet saying that his halfway blood work looked a little off. His white blood cell count had dropped, which can happen with the Oxibendazole. So she want him off it until his final blood tests in another 2 weeks. So he’s off the meds for the time being, but is still presenting his normal symptoms of incontinence and slight hind leg weakness. I feel bad for the poor little nugget, and feel like I’m fighting an uphill battle. Obviously I know it will never go away, but is there anything I can do for him at all?

I can’t help with your question at all – but just wanted to send you lots of hugs and positive vibes.
I’m so sorry you and Bombur are going through this

Low white blood cell count is apparently common with chronic infections, so treat and adapt as things come up and generally try to lessen stress. Best of luck and sending you good vibes. Wick sends his good thoughts as well, from one chronically ill rabbit to another.

Thanks S&L, sometimes I don’t know who is luckier to have who

Wick: hahaha thanks! I’ll definitely keep an eye on him.

I am a little worried about stressing him out. His next blood tests are on May 6th. If all is well again he’ll start the remaining 14 days of treatment that night. We leave on vacation at 3am on May 8th, which means he goes from vet to breeder in a 24 hour span. He gets stressed out so easily when his environment changes, and Saturday’s vet trip was a nightmare. He’s starting to know where he’s going and it ends up in a wild goose chase. The people we live with have again offered to help watch them, but again, I don’t think they know what they are getting themselves into, especially when they have 3 elderly pugs and a farm to tend to.

Definitely sounds stressful for both of you! Since he is still having incontinence, until he has his final blood test and can go back on the meds, I think keeping his bum as clean and dry as possible should be a key focus. Obviously, easier said than done . But I just recently discovered through volunteering at the rescue that there is this soft sheet/material that allows pee to pass through it and the top stays dry! If I hadn’t touched the material I wouldn’t of believed it because the regular cotton towel underneath the material was wet but the magical soft sheet/material was bone dry. I was told it is called “Palace Bedding.” It looks like fake sheepskin. I think fake sheepskin acts the same or similar, but I’m not 100% sure. Here is a link that talks about it, though I have no idea where to get it (so fake sheepskin might be the only option). https://rabbit.org/links/palace_pet.html

                          Sending vibes ((((Bombur))))

That’s a great idea! Thanks Luna Keeping his bum dry is honestly the worst part of this. Every day it’s a cornstarch bath.
