I got Felix a stuffed bunny the day I got him. He seems to really like it a lot, and he licks it. Is this normal? It’s really cute lol but if it’s bad for him I will take it away. he doesnt chew on it too much, just nibbles and goes back to licking. He doesnt pull the fur out of it either.

Stuffed animals are great. My Cinnabun has one too. Just make sure they are only licking it, not trying to eat it.

My Wilbur has a stuffed polar bear that she loves licking the tail and ears on. It’s completely fine as long as they aren’t eating it

I will let him keep it then because he’s not trying to eat it I wasn’t sure, because I read somewhere that they can get hairballs like cats o.o and I didnt want him to be sick.

Rabbit’s don’t get hairballs per say like cats do. Rabbits lack the gag/vomiting ability that cats have. So you want to make sure that they don’t consume too much of their own hair (done by grooming your bun on a constant basis). Also, allowing your bun to have unlimited access to hay will help with cleaning out your bun’s GI tract to prevent blockages.  Just watching your bun and making sure he eats will prevent him from harm. =]

I agree with Skipper’s Mama, plenty of fresh hay and water usually prevents rabbits from getting hair stuck in their digestive systems. Also brushing them a couple times a week (or more during molting times) also helps a lot

Awww, so adorable! We got my girl a stuffed elephant after she was spayed and she LOVED it. She groomed it and cuddled with it ALLLL the time. Since she’s been finally bonded with her two brothers though we had to take it out of the cage — the two boys of course, my destructive bunnies, tore the poor thing apart within 24 hours of being in the same cage with it.

Olivia has a teddy bear that she loves. Shes had it since the day I brought her home. There is also a community stuffed rabbit in the living room that they all love to groom, especially Stormy. The bunny is named Crusty Bunny because its totally gross from all the washings it gets.

I always have to warn people re: teddy bears. Be very careful your bun is not a chewer if you leave bunny and the plushie unsupervised. Bindi had a stuffie in his cage and tore it up one night and, we believe, ingested stuffing. I think he got mad at it because it became lodged in his cardboard house and he attacked it. He became blocked up and was horribly sick for several days. We came very close to losing him. Not something I want anyone else to go through.

Yep, it’s normal for some rabbits. It can be very cute!

When Hannah came to me, she had a little stuffed rabbit that she carried around, snuggled up with, and groomed constantly. After bonding with Otto, “Stuffy” was sort of ignored, but occasionally she’ll pick him up by the ears and carry him around the house for a few minutes. lol Rabbits do funny things! “Stuffy” is now the saddest looking toy ever – his fur is all crusty from being licked to death and he has a few holes (they’ve never tried to eat the stuffing, so I leave him).

Thst is perfectly normal and good! Rabbits are social creatures, and grooming a stuffy (or a pillow or like one of my buns, a crinkly tunnel) is a social behavior.

Many buns benefit from having a stuffy “friend”. You may find your bun snuggled up next to the stuffy, and that is also an expression of social behavior.
