Yesterday, Louise was being her normal self. She was running and binkying and hopping on my lap for attention. She was sitting by my side, flopped, happy as ever.
But around 8 or 9 pm, she started acting kind of lethargic. At first, since she was just lying next to me anyway, I thought she was just relaxed and sleepy. But she got up to hop over to her litter box, and I noticed she was moving slowly and seemed a little stiff.
So I went over there to check on her. She “melted” into my face pets, as usual. So I picked her up to check her out. That’s when I really got worried. She didn’t seem uncomfortable at all – normally if I picked her up, she would seem nervous or stiff, and she might kick before I stabilized her. This time, she just went limp and her head sank into my arm.
Her belly felt normal. Her poops looked normal. Her nose looked normal. She was breathing fine. She just seemed…really tired.
I set her down and she slowly hopped on over to her bed. I made sure she had fresh hay and food and water within easy reach. I kept on checking on her; she drank a little water and ate a little hay. By then it was pretty late, so I went to bed, thinking “Tomorrow morning I’ll get help if she still seems off.” That was a mistake.
I walked out to check on her this morning at about 8. She looked like she was sleeping in her bed, completely normal. But she wasn’t. She was gone.
I just don’t understand. How could it happen that quickly, and without warning? Everything seemed normal up until last night. Did I do something wrong? Should I have rushed her to a 24 hour vet the minute I picked her up and she seemed so tired? Does anyone know what might have happened to her? She was just so young and happy and hyper just yesterday.
I’m trying to get up the courage now to clean up her things. To pick up her toys and pack away the extra food and hay. I hate to let it all sit, but maybe it will have to wait,
