i dont know what happened. My husband and I left for our week long honeymoon, I wanted to bring them with us but we decided its best to leave them at home with his aunt taking care of them. We went over everything with her and she loved the bunnies and she loved taking care of them. About mid-week I get a call that Louis had died and they found him dead in his cage with Coco laying on top of him. I asked them what went wrong they had no idea, Coco had not attacked him he had no scaring nothing, they had been feeding him exactly the right times and amounts, the room temperature stayed at the proper level, they got their hours of exercise, and his aunt spent plenty of time with them. She cried really bad that day and felt terrible, but it seemed like it was not anyone’s fault. They buried him in the backyard before we came home, so taking him to do an autopsy was not possible because we were not home.
He was very young I bet even younger than 8 weeks because he was just learning to stand on his hind legs barely, the pet store we bought him at was selling bunnies too young. He never showed any sign of disease he ate and drank and acted like a normal baby bunny.
He was so adorable and would let you hold him and cuddle him and he would lick our hands and arms all the time, Louis was such a joy to have….
It makes me feel like a failure of an owner and now I do not think I should ever buy bunnies again

I understand what you are feeling. I recently got a new bun and he passed away two days after I got him. He was 8 weeks old when we got him, and when he got sick I took him to the vet and we still were not able to save him. I had never lost a pet before. Every pet I grew up with lived a very long time (24 year old cat). Recently that cat and the family dog passed away but it was after I had been away from home for a long time so it was different – I only saw them a couple times a year. Losing this bunny (we hadn’t even named him yet) has been very difficult, but I need to keep reminding myself that there was nothing I could have done – and you need to do the same. This just happens sometimes.I wonder if this happens in rabbits more than other animals because of how much and how quickly they breed. It seems that animals that have more babies in a litter and who breed a lot are more likely to have babies that just don’t make it. I’m just mentioning all this so that you know it wasn’t your fault.
What has helped me with my baby passing is spending time with my first bunny, Bear. She seemed to know I’ve been hurting and has been very sweet with me. I know you have another baby bunny – spend lots of time with it, you both need the support.
