So my Bonnie was relocated about a month ago. She used to live on the side of my bed under my desk, and she’d jump on my desk and take out all of her agression on my homework and school books! Thats when i decided to move her to the other side of my room, she has a cage, a big pen space, and all kinds of toys and fun things. She adjusted well and loves her area, but lately she’s been so loud!!!

She has a habit of clanging the pen against the wall as loud as she can, and i’ve actually seen her run from afar and charge at it! also, she bites it, which I’m sure is bad for her teeth, and  really really annoying.

This usually happens at like 5 am, right when it first gets light out, but since I have a really awkward sleep schedule due to work, I can’t let her out at this time and give her free roam because, I like to keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn’t pee on any of my stuff or get stuck behind something or go under my bed , and I’m frankly just too tired to keep an eye on her. If I don’t let her out though, this noise could continue for hours until she gives up. I’m losing my patience, hoping this will pass, and losing sleep, and focus.

Lately, I’ve also noticed her doing this whenever my boyfriend is around. Idk if he has something to do with it, but its around him, and early in the morning. hmmm.

She gets plenty of free roam time during the day when I am home, for example right now her pen is open and she’s lounging around in her pen area on her carpet.

Idk what to do?!?! I heard you could put vinegar on something you don’t want your bun near to keep them away, but I wouldnt want to coat her whole pen in it and make her hate it in there, ughhh what should i do!?!?

I feel your pain! Mine keep me up with all thier digging, water drinking and rearranging of thier “furnitue” ie. loudly pushing and throwing thier litter boxes around. Bunnies are nocturnal so they are super active at night by nature. I don’t think there is much you can do about it besides relocating her cage, but since buns are creatures of habbit she might not appreciate being moved around every night, plus she’s probably really happy knowing that you are in the room with her.

You could always buy earplugs! Or cover your head with a pillow, lol.

When I first got Honey, she slept in my bedroom. This was only the first week though, because she would do bunny races and practically flip her cage upside down. Since then, she lives in my living room =] Rabbits are most active late and night and early in the morning, so I have to say.. your definietly not the only one!

Honey also bites the bars of her cage and rattles it a bit when I walk in the door from work every day. I like to think its just because sh wants me to know its time to let her out since shes been cooped up all day! I haven’t noticed any damage to her pearly whites.

            Goodluck!

Have you tried placing a blanket over her cage? Rabbits are diurnal animals, meaning they are most active at dawn and dusk so this would make sense she is most active at first light. Is she spayed?

is it possible to remove her from your bedroom and put her somewhere else in the house? bunnies are loud in the morning, and there’s really nothing you can do to stop that behavior. i like Scarlet’s idea of a blanket, but that might not even be 100%. mine are in a room adjacent to my bedroom and they are so loud every morning at 5-6 am. digging, racing, clanging the pen, sometimes a thump or two for good measure. the good thing is… i have a door betw/ us that i can shut tho to muffle some of the noise…

is she locked in her cage at night, or does she have access to the pen also? is the pen directly connected? another thought, if she is only in her cage at night, maybe in the morning, open the door and allow her the cage and pen. she’ll have some freedom, but still be confined so you can sleep.

It’s really common for them to do this, because they are naturally active at that time…BUT they can adjust to our schedules very easily

A couple of things: Keep her awake during the day. Keep lights on and play a radio or TV. Make sure she has lots of fun things to do and enough out time to get all her energy worked off. At night turn out the lights, have a bedtime routine (give her salad then, say goodnight, have a snuggle), and the sheet over the cage is a great idea!!

If the clanging of pen-on-wall is too loud, can you bunch up a blanket between them to cushion the blows? Of course, it’d have to be one you don’t mind getting shredded…

just to answer a few questions, she is spayed, and she does have acess to the pen area all the time. i tried putting a blanket on the cage, and she was kinda freaking out because she isn’t used to being confined. tonight i’m trying a blanket inbetween the pen and the wall to muffel the sound!! hope it works! ughh
