Looking for the best pellet

If anyone knows of a good quality, high fiber, timothy based pellet that does not contain Menadione or  Exthoxyquin, please, please, please, let me know.
 

I need the high fiber due to poopy butts.  Kaytee contains a preservative called Exthoxyquin. This is a cancer causing chemical so I won’t risk it. Oxbow contains Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Vitamin K). This chemical has recently been linked to many heath issues in dogs. Oxbow is what I’m currently using but I would really like to find one without either of those chemicals. I’m a lot picky after that whole China pet food thing so I try hard to stay as natural & chemical free as possible.

I just checked American Pet Diner and they contain the Menadlone too. It seems like Sweet Meadow Hay pellets do as well.

They don’t list a minimum Crude Fiber content, that makes me a little wary.

Corn being both the second & third ingredient is not a plus for me either. Corn is not very good for bunnies, high sugar content. 

 

Edit to add: I just reread the Kaytee list & it actually contains both chemicals.

Those are the only pellets I know of. It might be a challenge for you to find the pellet you are looking for and you may have to compromise somewhere.

Here’s Purina High Fiber – it’s alfalfa based but I don’t see those ingredients unless I’m missing them.  This is a good pellet as well.

Wow, I can’t believe I’m going to consider switching to a Purina product. It’s ingredient look not to bad. Corn is in there but 5th on the list so that won’t be nearly as much as 2nd & 3rd. I would prefer timothy based & corn free but I may have to start making my own for all that to happen. It has the yogurt bacteria, I like that. I know what most of the chemicals are.

It’s definitely made the list of possibilities. Thanks. Any other suggestions are more than welcome too.

Just to let everyone know, Oxbow Bunny Basics T appears to no longer contain Menadione! I looked at the ingredient label on the bag and it isn’t listed.

Do be aware of labelling laws. Sometimes if an ingredient is at a certain minimum it doesn’t actually have to be listed on the label. Well, at least in Australia this is so. If it’s under 5%. Oxbow are pretty good with customer relations. Might be worth shooting them an email to check this ingredient is completely removed now.

Very awesome that everyone is reading pet food labels though!
I’m just really noticing a whole culture shift in almost all pet owners-and I really am thrilled. It seems like the pet food companies are responding too-although often things are mislabelled because by law they are allowed (all natural can be smacked on any ol’ pet food-according to the FDA) but I just feel I’m seeing more and more people question what goes in their pet food (dog, cat, rabbit etc) and companies responding by making better formulations

Could the listing of Vitamin K in those pellets be menadione though? Menadione is vit K3, a synthetic form of vit K, so I’ve just learnt.

Also, for those looking out for Ethoxyquin in their foods or pets foods, it can be labelled as E324.
