Looking for a girlfriend…

… for Banner, not me!

 I haven’t been on in a long time, so I don’t know if any of you remember  the breakup of Merry & Banner (he ripped her third eyelid, she took a chunk out of his cheek)…  Even after a 6 hour car ride and a completely new and neutral home, the kids just do not want to get back together.  Well, Merry has said she’s done – period, the end.

Banner is definitely still looking for companionship so I’m on a quest for a new girlfriend… but the problem is that there don’t seem to be any shelters near where I am in VT (when I enter in my zip in petfinder, Quebec ends up being close to the top of the list!!!)

It also seems that no one around here spays – there are plenty of rabbits around, but they’re all 4H or from breeders.  There are some real cuties at a store nearby (they’re well taken care of, even if I don’t like the litter they use – but you can definitely tell they care) but they’re also not fixed.

 

Given that, how in the world do I find him a new girlfriend?  I don’t want to adopt, spay, then find out they don’t get along… ugh, this sucks.  Poor little buddy is so lonely.

Ooo this is tricky. VT is vermont right? I can ask around. By shelters you mean humane society’s or private rescues? Also almost every town has an animal control, they might have a rabbit or two that need a good home if you can withstand going in that place.

Yep, VT is Vermont . Shelters – I meant both. Seems bunnies up here are mostly from breeders.

Hmm, animal control… That thought didn’t cross my mind!

I found a girl up for adoption (she’s still intact thought) that I’m dying to meet…. So cute! Just don’t know how an unspayed girl will fit in, and how much she would change post-op.

I understand. I took the leap and got a girl from the local humane society (here not so great to rabbits). She was found in wild. But because she is very calm, she’s tolerating bunjamin’s craziness so far. It’s just a little more work when you don’t know. And you have to be able to accept if they hate each other, they may never be fully bonded. BUT if your boy is truly lonely and if he is a groomer, he might bond easily to any bun you bring home. If you can afford the costs of spay (you’d have to find rabbit savvy vet which might be hard for you) I think it’s a good idea. Did you actually find her from animal control?

I found her (and now one more possible girl) through Craigslist… Not as a bunny to buy, but as a bunny to adopt. Seems like there are secret foster homes out there!

well yay! That means they may be okay with Banner going on some dates then? Cuz that would be the best situation for everybun
