Internet is telling me 4-7 year lifespan for a Lionhead?  Is that right?

Why so short?  My last bun, a PEW Netherland, NudgeBunny, lived to 12, even though he was more than likely a mill bred bun.

If LHs came from NDs, I want that lifespan, darn it!!

Of course, one website says 4-7 is ideal ‘cuz you can still bond but it’s not “too long”…WTH, there is no too long, it’s never long enough.🤔

The typical go to phrase is that any rabbit, if given good health and care, can leave to and sometimes beyond 10+ years. I’m not sure where the original breed-specific ranges came from, but I wouldn’t put too much merit. Yes, some rabbits are prone to some conditions more than others, but it’s not a guarantee, and those “conditions” are not terminal, like susceptibility to ear infections or dental issues.

One major determinant of potential life span in rabbits is size. It’s the same with dogs. Big dogs and big buns live shorter lives in general than smaller breeds. Lionhead buns are not big. I have a lionhead/teddy cross. He’s 8.5 years old now.

Seems like outdated information to me. Smaller bunnies, if in good health, tend to live longer.

Agree with others, lionheads might be prone to certain issues like dental problems, but not so much that they would have a dramatically shorter life span. They also could be including unspayed females in that calculation.
