› Forum › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › lol okay i need to know how to find balls.
so i have been trying to find peppers balls….lol i know it sounds weird but i want to get him neutered so i was checking to see if they have dropped yet. the vet couldnt find them last time, but he was sure pepper was a boy from looking at his, for lack of better word, weiner opening lol. so where do i look and what do they look like? i know this sounds gross but can someone post pics of their bunnys balls? lol! i sound like a perv! can anyone who still thinks im sane help? lol!
LMAO! i wanted to know the same thing for hammer! i just didnt want to ASK how to find them lol. i think he is a boy cus i did some rude looking and found that his hair is thinning where i think they should be coming in lol *gross* idk maybe im seeing wrong. idk what im looking for lol!
Here is a link to pictures http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/sexingboys.shtml
Also, know that when a bunny is nervous or scared they can actually retract their testicles. But you should be able to see them soon at some point!
And also, some rabbits are cryptorchid, which means their testicles never do drop and you never see them.
how old is Pepper?
Male balls are pretty…visible when the boys are just lounging. But if they retract them you can still see the flaps of pink skin where they sit. Shouldn’t be hard at all.
Oh, here is a picture of Rye’s balls. I have 4 unaltered males, I will try to snap pics of their bits later today or tomorrow for you.
pepper is 4 months and 5 days old. thanks for everything i will keep looking! lol
Hehehe let us know if you find them!!
i think i found hammers lol, who knows! ill wait for the vet
thanks peppersmom for posting, this was helpful to me too!
Usually at 4 months they make an appearance. Y’all are cracking me up. Laith had them hanging way down. They sat on his hind legs when he lounged. Was hilarious. He was lounging one day and pooped on them. It just sat there. Was sooo funny. They were acting as a poop holder tray that day. Normaly they dont’ hang as much as his did. You could definitely tell he was a male. Didn’t even have to look for them.
Well that is til he got neutered.
lol bunnytown i hope hammer isnt like that! ok well im about to embarrass myself but.. o well lol dont laugh! here it goes.. will they still hang all over the place when he is spayed lol. Do they just snip something to cut off hormones or do they cut some of that icky stuff off? lol wow! what exactly will they do lol. this thread is getting out there lol, but then again why would i know this lol, so i have to ask
Bunny ball story (I know I’ve told it before) – we were at the mall, stopped in the pet store there and there was the cutest little bun that had been there for a long time and they were basically clearing it. We were seriously considering it, and asked one of the employees if they new it was a boy or a girl and if we could see it. She told us oh it’s a girl and brought “her” out so we could see her. Turned “her” upside down and they they are, sitting like those big chocolate covered almonds. I kind of looked at the employee, looked at the bun’s bits, and said uhm… this is not a girl. It was so obvious, I don’t know how anyone there thought it was a girl!

lol well my vet was 95% sure it was a boy without seeing his balls, thats the exact stat he gave me, lol so i think hes just good at hiding his, i will have another looksee today
haha S&A thats hilarious! im afraid peppers are going to be obvious and somehow im missing them! lol!
Lol my boyfriend looked me like i was nuts when i walked into the kitchen carrying pepper, flipped him around so his belly was facing boyfriends face, and said can you find peppers balls? lol! he was like NO whats WRONG with you?! lol
okay…so im still not finding any balls that look like any of the pictures here. Is it possible they are hairy? There is some lumps down there but they are hairy and i cant tell if its his balls or not….theres just too much hair! i need to sedate him to see properly! i wish he would trance but he freaks, is there a secret to trancing? do you have to flip them a certain way or do it quickly or slowly? Im just thinking maybe his are covered in fur.
Usually when they are on thier back, you pet their forehead. They can quickly come out of it kicking so always have their feet resting against an arm, stomach, whatever.
The sacs themselves are not really hairy, (though they can be basically buried in hair if your bunnies hair is longer) but the mound inbetween where anus and penis is.
Maybe he is a she???
PeppersMama this all reminds me of story I read on http://www.petrabbitworld.com last week.
There’s an interesting story about this fellow . . . .
When Bellamy was a kitten he went to someone who requested a good show/breeding buck. A while later I received a call from the owner (in NSW) saying she intended to relocate him as a pet as he didn’t have any testicles. I was perplexed as this would have been a first for one of my bucks, as his breeder I had to confirm this myself, so I offered a replacement bunny and organized the exchange. When I first saw him he was 4 ½ months old and my initial thought was that he was very small for his age. A quick health check confirmed he was under condition (I could feel his backbone), which is a common indication that there probably wasn’t enough protein in his diet. I also managed to detect tiny little scrotums and decided to feed him up and wait and see. Well with proper nutrition Bellamy grew bigger and in his maturity developed quite normally. He was obviously a slow developer or more to the point his growth was unnaturally inhibited by an inadequate diet. He definitely has gonads now and quite capable of siring lovely little babies!
Maybe Pepper is just slower in developing (and not due to malnutrition like this story as I KNOW you look after him well!)
i guess its possible he is a she, or maybe my poor baby boy is a slow developer lol i dunno, the vet seemed pretty positive it was a he, but couldnt find balls, the breeder said it was a he, but sexed him at 8 weeks. I cannot find anything that look remotely like ball sacs or pouches lol. hes def not malnourished lol but you all know that. I am scheduling him for a neuter when i get back from my trip, at that point he will be five months. he hasnt started spraying yet. no dewlap, but im not sure if all girl buns have those or just fat ones lol! so i dunno what he is for sure…i thought it was a he but maybe not.
If i schedule him for a spay, and it turns out to be a she, will they notice before they cut anything? lol and will they just change it to a spay or would i have to reschedule if HE turns out to be a SHE? lol its soooo confusing!
i’m pretty sure that some buns hgave gone in for a particular surgery and that surgery ended up being the “other surgery”. i think that it’s okay if your girl turns out to be a boy, but with a neuter, is there less anesthesia used than for a female? i don’t know. you might ask your vet if they will reschedule, or just do the correct surgery…
i guess i will just tell the vet that im still very unsure what sex he is and see what he tells me to do.
EEP! BUNNY PORN!
hahahaha!! i feel like a perv looking at pics of bunny balls on the internet. boyfriend already thinks im overly obsessed with bunnies, im sure this isnt helping the case AT ALL
That pic of the buns privates. I dont’ think those are bunny balls. My girl is like that and she is 5 mos. She has a bare spot on each side of her privates. Looks like your buns there. I vet would know better tho. And the bun would know even better.
Bunnytowne- hammer looks like that to but i was told he was a boy by the breeder. Maybe he is a she lol
Jerseygirl – great post. And something to definitely keep in mind!
Well, it looks like when he goes in for the neuter, that is when the real truth will be told. Don’t worry, yes, sometimes they find out when the go INTO the bunny, but it’s much better that they start with neutering rather than the other way around since that much less invasive to begin with.
Since you havve had a vet AND a breeder confirm, he’s probably just a late bloomer.
But just in case he does end up being a she, most vets will adjust accordingly and just do the “correct” surgery, rather than reschedule.
BB… is there less anesthesia used with a neuter than a spay due to the invasive nature of it? or is it similar for both?
If they do change from neuter to spay mid-surgery be nice if you only get charged for the neuter! What would they charge for a ‘speuter’?
*snort*!
A “speuter!”
hahah a speuter…well i dunno about that…hopefully a speuter is cheaper though! lol!
ahh yes Beka a slow bloomer. Or he hides them a whole lot. I guess the hole or slit will tell the tale for now. The vet will figure it out.
Well I can’t take credit for coining that word! I read it someplace around here at BB. I just figured it’s shorthand was of saying “spay or neuter because I don’t know which it will be yet”. Correct me if I’m wrong!
I don’t know for sure, for sure. I am thinking that they would use the same amount as there is the fine line between what is too little and too much and they monitor that carefully. My understanding is that since the spay can take longer, the bunny may be under for longer, so I guess that could mean more over time. I also know there are two ways to put a rabbit under, via gas or injection and I don’t know how those differ when it comes to dosage. Something to research!
