Ok so, my boyfriend is the one building Loki’s new enclosure for her when we move into the new house (which is the end of this month! SSSOOO EXCITED! haha).  He is very excited to be having a project and we are going to be putting her in our spare bedroom.  But since we are renting we cant let her have run of the room (just incase of accident or chewing…etc.).  So his idea (he has to run everything by me first haha) was to take a sheet of plywood (he said they are usually 4 feet by 8 feet) for the bottom and then use some sort of wood (2 by 4s or something) for the corners and then chicken wire to keep her in.  Some how make a door in there (suggestions always welcome for that!).  not sure about a cover on the top yet, because we dont know if she will jump out or not (when she is havin free time in her x-pen she never jumps out but does stand on her hind legs with front legs on the side of the pen).

So my question is will 4 feet by 8 feet be large enough for Loki?  She is a 10 pound year and a half (possibly 2 years?) old flemish giant/rex mix.  Also any suggestions as to how to make a door, if the chicken wire will be ok? or any other ideas?

        thanks in advance!

That is big enough for a cage, but not for exercise/run time. Especially with a bun that big, she will need at least a couple of bunny-proofed rooms to run around in to play.

If you already have an xpen, maybe checkout this new thread. https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tab…fault.aspx

i do have an x-pen but its a small one. And ya she will have out of cage time too of course. I just want to make sure she has a large enough enclosure for space wise so that when she is in there she isnt cramped. Since she will be in there while we are at work and asleep which is quite a bit of time.

That is a good idea to make sure her enclosure is big enough. Since you are gone during work hours, she will probably be asleep anyways, but sometimes my bunnies like to do some binkies in the morning. My bunnies seem to prefer to have their play time in the evening (around 7 or 8) and that is when they really run around.

Another idea would be to get a big rug, and put an exercise pen on that, and you wouldn’t have to worry about the carpet underneath. The only thing to watch out for with chicken wire is that there are no sharp edges she could poke herself on. I used to have chicken cages made of chicken wire at my parent’s house, and I was always scratching myself on it. Bunny skin is very thin and delicate so you would need to be very careful about that.
