Logan’s weird new habit…

Hi everybunny, sorry I haven’t been here in awhile!  Bailey and Logan are great- totally in love, always cuddling and grooming, etc.  It’s adorable.  Logan has also realllly come out of his shell- he’s even coming over to say hi to friends we have over, which is something he never would’ve done a few months ago.  I’ve been busy with my last semester of classes, moving, working, etc. 

Anyway, Logan’s started this weird obsession with chewing on plastic/rubber things.  He’s totally obsessed with chewing on my shoes when I go into his room, and if I leave something plastic or rubber in his area, like his brush, he immediately starts chewing on it.  They have plenty of things to chew on in their room- cardboard, willow stuff galore, chew block toy things, and of course loads of hay.  Does he just want something softer to chew on- I’m thinking maybe something like the yucca toy in the BB store?  Or is he just obsessed with my shoes?  When my horses would start chewing or licking weird things, my first thought was some deficiency in their diet- is this the case with bunnies, too??

Powder adores anything rubber / vinyl and will eat it if he can get to it – he’s eaten all the buttons off my TV controller. lol I think it’s just a bunny thing, a lot of people have lost buttons and such they like the texture.

My rabbits love rubber too. I have rubber cases on my iPod and Blackberry….my Bridge bunny took a chomp out of the iPod and one or both of my bunnies (don’t know who the culprit is) took 5 bites out of the Blackberry. They don’t eat it though. I agree with Stickerbunny, I think it’s a rabbit thing. Though trying yucca may be a good idea!

Heehee my horse does that too. Mostly just to bug me for treats though.

I would try dabbing some white vinegar on your shoes. It won’t smell to you after a minute, but it’s a natural repellent odor, and he may not like the taste or smell. They like rubber, but it’s not good for them. You can say a firm “no” when he starts to do it, too. He may get the message and lay off.

Nope, I’m afraid Logan doesn’t understand English at all.  Not even “food!” or “come get a treat!”  Poor Logan, he always seems sort of clueless, but he’s such a sweetheart Bailey at least understands no (not that it’s a huge deterrent for her…).  I’m going to try the vinegar, since I have some in the kitchen, and be more careful about where I leave his brush!  Thanks for the input, everyone!
