okay, whats the deal with my bun? i was obviously expecting her to shed, she is an animal but now? where i am, its fall, so its just getting cooler out and is about to be winter…. should she be shedding right now? i figured she’d want to keep all of her fur now and shed in the spring?

and, is it normal for her to be shedding like on her back towards her tail, and nowhere else? she’s shedding everywhere and won’t let me brush her! how can i convince her to let me ?

        ughhhhh HELP!!!

bunnies actually shed four times a year. twice heavy, twice light, alternating each time. when they shed, the amount of fur is quite ridiculous. it’s best to brush everyday during this time b/c bunnies cannot vomit up ingested fur. too much can cause a blockage (tummy troubles).

the best way i have found to groom is up high on unfamiliar territory (on a counter or table). if you’re on the ground, the bunny will run. up high they *should* be too frightened and confused to try and get away. for extra security, you can put the bunny in the bottom half of the pet carrier. in my kitchen, we have a counter that has the back-splash in the back and a wall to the left side. i stand right in that little niche, this way i only need to watch the front and the right hand side. brush the bunny thoroughly. you might want to wear a face mask if the fur is very bothersome to you. have on hand a couple damp paper towels and after the brushing session, rub them over the bunny to pick up the loose fur.

it is normal that they will shed in different spots at different times.  during a heavy shed, you might be able to see a line that will creep across your bunny as the new comes in and the old falls out.  it’s not likely that she will like it, so don’t expect her to.  during a shed, the best thing is to do it everyday, for no longer than 5 minutes, and give her a treat afterwards.

4 times a year!?!?! wow, she better get used to brushings then! thanks for the pointers, i’m sure my parents will kill me if i groom her in the kitchen, but i’ll defiantely try the bottom of the pet carrier on my desk! i hope this makes it a lot easier! thank you

your desk should work fine too. just as long as it’s not somewhere she normally goes. when she’s not shedding, you still want to groom once or twice a week. always offer a fav treat after.

Heheh their heavy sheds are just terrible, mine have finally finished and I am currently enjoying a drink with no fur in it!! Also don’t be alarmed if you see some bald looking spots, during a heavy shed that’s perfectly normal. They should look healthy and pink, not red or flaky though

oh wow thank you so much for letting me know that, because my next question was going to be OMG BALD SPOTS WHY?!?! becuase i was grooming her yesterday and it was like clump after clump of fur! i was so freaked! but grooming on the desk was victorious

I’ve had to change the filter that covers the intake of my central air twice in the last month thanks to my lovely molting lionhead… Not to mention all the allergy medication I’ve gone through. This is by far his heaviest shed yet. When I brush him there are literally clumps of hair that fall out.

I think we’ve all gone throughj an unbelievable crazy shed this year..I’ve not been a bunny owner for too long but lets hope its just a crazy shed indicative of a crazy year (weather wise) and not a yearly thing!!

i’m praying this is a crazy shed year or something because if my bun sheds this much every year i’m shaving her bald! just kidding obviously, but when she bounces around i can always find where she ended up becuase she leaves a trail of fur…. ugh…
