I remember the advise from BB was to keep the babies on Alfalfa hay until they are 7 months old.

I was wondering if I should only give them the Oaten hay, or can I still give them both? I know the Alfalfa can make bunnies overweight, but my lot are normal weight.

Generally around 7 months is when your bunnies stop growing so quickly, and so they will not need as many calories as they did for the first seven months of their lives. For this reason, those additional calories in alfalfa hay won’t be used up as quickly, so they can become overweight from the alfalfa. I would recommend slowly transitioning them off the alfalfa, so you can mix the oaten hay and alfalfa hay for a while, but you’ll want to transition them off the alfalfa completely eventually.

I agree with Moobunnay’s advice. Also will you have timothy or orchard grass as another hay mixture in the future. Oat is great, but I recommend it as a companion hay, but not as a solo hay once you wean your bunnies off alfalfa.

I am pretty sure that the grass hays we get in the US are not availble in Australia.  BoingOnline suggests Oaten Hay as the available hay with the closest nutritional profile to timothy hay.

Not sure on the other names for hay here. I know alfalfa is Lucerne. Should I be looking for another hay to give with oaten?

I found this site, which tells you the types of hay. I was wondering if it maybe the pasture hays.
