Well, I have had many solutions to litterbox training and I have to admit that my current solution does work increadibly well.  The one and only problem that I am having is that Miss Lady Buns is sitting in her pee and getting her nice white little hiney all dirty (there is no urine scalding as I clean her up).  As you can see from my picture their litterbox is relitivly large.  Mr. Bunners (Buddy) has an increadibly, immaculate clean bum because when ladies is dirty from her pee I check Buddy.  I line their litterbox with news paper as Buddy gets allergies from most litters due to the dust.  I clean every other day and fill the box half way full.   Thats alot of hay, so there should be no problem with the pee dripping through to the bottom but no matter what it seems like Lady just plants her, at the moment not so cute bum, right in her pee, even in a brand new clean litterbox.  I think that she pees on the side of the litterbox and backs into her little corner as the pee sometimes is very high up on her back.  I want to put some sort of tray/screen in the litter box and wanted to see if any one has a suggestion that is litter free. These are both mini rex so the pads on their feet are very thin/slighly balding.  (again there are no urine scalds/sores and their hocks look good, just thin so I cant have her sitting in her pee or on something hard).  I am thinking about an extremely absorbant cloth, like a sham wow and put a screen like a window screen on top of it to keep it clean from hay and hay dust.  What do you guys think?  Anyone have a similar problem that has had a successful sollution?

        Thanks

        -Lady, Buddy, and Jolene.

You can definitely try a screen, but they’re a bit of a pain to keep clean.

That’s a great looking condo they have!

I’d love to know what the sign reads at the top of the condo.

I think that she pees on the side of the litterbox and backs into her little corner as the pee sometimes is very high up on her back.

Are you sure that Buddy is not spraying her? There’s no pee around outside the litter box? Could he even spray while they’re both in there?

Does she tend to stick around and eat hay where as Buddy does his business then scoots? Goes back later for hay. If you use a raised screen, are you thinking of putting the hay on top of that?

Sorry for all the questions! I’m sort of continually trying to nut this litter box issue out myself also.

Beka-Thanks it took a long time:/ and I messed up the first time so had to redo it, but it’s worth it.  Take up a lot of apce but they are happier.

JersyGirl- Ladies does sit there and graze for a long time and Buddy just basically does his business and leaves.  He used to pull hay out of the box and make a huge mess.  Thats why you see the gigantic litterbox now and they have to jump inside of it.  That has really helped with messyness in their cage, but can be a hassel to clean since the box now cannot fit inside a trash bag, so cleaning is messier.

No, buddy does not spray Ladies, He’s really picky about being the only one in the litterbox when he is in there, except for when I clean it, they both are so excited, but I think he still needs even more space.  If he is in there and Ladies jumps in, he will get out for the most part.

I am considering making my own litter box with corrogated plastic and making bumpers so Ladies cannot back onto the walls.  I dont want to put hay on top of the screen, but if the cloth isnt absorbant enough, I would have to, but that would basically be the same thing as she is sitting in the wet hay she just peed on.  My other option I am thinking about is getting a pet zoom pee pad, and use that inside the litterbox I make with corrugated plastic, but it would definately get chewed.

WEll, this is never ending bunny litterbox madness, lol.
