Hey Everyone! I have a quick question…do you guys use anything around your litter box incase your bunny misses their litterbox?  Raven is doing awesome with litter training, but i think sometimes she accidently pees out the box. Do you put anything around the box like bedding ( carefresh) or maybe newspaper. Im worried the carefresh may confuse her and she may just pee there…

        Any input is much appreciated…

        Thanks,

        Jessica

you can try a higher-side litterbox. they make some for critters, or if you use a medim size cat box, the sides are about 5-6 inches tall so she might not pee over the top of that. i wouldn’t put litter anywhere but the litterbox b/c that will confuse her about where she is supposed to go. i do daily (sometiems twice-daily) “straightening” of my buns’ pen, i pick up stray poops, put their toys away (they drag them back out right after i’m done). if you do a general cage clean-up every day, you can clean any pee spots where she might have missed the box with a white vinegar/water solution. is she in a plastic-bottom cage, or what kind of housing does she have right now?

Thanks Beka! Yeah she has a cat litter box right now…but  the sides arent that high ….ill look for a higher litter box to see if that helps.

Yeah i straighten up her cage everyday, but when this girl pee’s she pee’s it goes all under her litter box LOL….so its not a pretty site or smell hahah!

Yeah thats what i was worried about if i put another bedding around the cage it would confuse her..

She has a plastic bottom to her cage, so white vinegar/water solution would def. help…I will just look for a higher litter box to see if that helps!

            Thanks for your help,

            Jessica

My bunny that just passed, Kit, would pee out of his litter box(I thought it might be a “boy” thing, since he was coming into maturity and spraying). But whatever the reason, I would use a piece newspaper under the litterbox. It made it easier to just peel the newspaper from the bottom and then wipe down the floor with white vinegar and water. I keep a spray bottle full of it

Oh so you did use a newspaper…hmmm

I really think its cause she backs her butt up against the litter box and must pee over…so while I am out shopping tomorrow I will look for a higher litter box….lol

                  silly bunnies

I am sorry for your loss..hugs!

                  Thanks,

I clean mine with the white vinegar solution too – and sometimes, I will do a soak in Baking soda with the vinegar to do a scrub – like a volcano!

you can try the newspaper under the box also. mine would pull the newspaper out and shred it within moments of it being laid down tho… so it does not work for all bunnies… but definitely give it a try… it won’t hurt to see what she does.

i dump and refill their litterboxes every 2-3 days, once a week i do a full soak with vinegar to get the excess residue out…

I will try this newspaper until I can get a higher litter box, cause like i said i really think its her pushing her butt up and peeing over LOL

Thanks so much for your help!

A small tip: If you get a new box, try get one similar colour + size to old one (with higher sides obviously!). I don’t know if they can see colours but a change in a litter box sometimes results in an upset bunny. Depends if you have a fuss pot or not! I use a retangular tub I picked up in the supermarket. Others have uses large tubs etc and cut down the front end for easy access.

The higher box is wonderful! I bought some just regular containers like organizing containers from walmart and they have high backs, and they were just around four or five dollars
