Hey, So Me and Marleys dad are planning on converting our closet into a nice cage for her. She currentlyis in a cage that is placed in the closet. its very small and since we have school and work, she has to spend a good portion of her day in it. And we hate how small it is!

So, we have just started to plan and would love some ideas! I figured we would use NIC cubing for the walls, and put a wood peice on the carpet and then put some lenulium on top of that as her flooring. And possibly a carpet square for her to lay and chew on!

Does anyone have a similar cage and have a better idea of what we could use?

I want to spend as less money as possible of course, just so i can do this as quiclly as possible to make her happier.

Thank you so much for any of your ideas!

          Hello!

I have a converted closet cage for my rabbit, Bun. I used NIC grids and lots of zip ties. I have a rubber mat protecting the carpet and use a towel over it. She likes to dig in it but doesn’t chew up the towel. I just give her lots of toys in hops she will ruin them instead. She actually has ruined the puzzle that is in a frame that was stored in my closet….I really hope my parents forgot that it existed because they will be pretty mad…lol   I would def stay away from wanting her to chew up carpet or linens because she can get very sick from it because it’s very hard to pass through their body and they could die from that. You want lots of safe wood chews. BB sells lots of nice chews on the site. You can see Bun here has some, she has the grass mats, this one is the medium in buns cage…I love the xtra large too. And there is a willow star..well half of it, and the mini willow rings.

I have that large litterbox outside to protect myself from poopwars from my freerange pair.

One of my problems with closets is that no air circulates in there – there is not air vent. Is there no way to get her a place out in the open where the air circulates? It can get mighty hot in the closet and it’s dark.

I get nervous for a different reason: I worry that just once a piece of clothing could fall off a hanger and either hit the bunny or fall on top of a necessity and it would be trouble that would go unnoticed, possibly for hours. Just seems kind of risky.

Bun has been in there for almost a year now and I haven’t had any clothing casualties. I always have my windows and door open since I have a baby gate on the door. I think Bun likes the closed side because it’s secretive over there. But Bun does get let out for free roaming in the guest room.

I don’t understand why if you have the closet opened up like I do, why it would get warmer than anywhere else in your bedroom. Yes the closed half is darker, but not hotter than anywhere else in my house. Bun’s pen surely doesn’t get any weird influx of temperatures.

I think really it depends on how the room with the closet is setup because this closet is about 3 feet from the door and a window is kitty corner to it. Windows are also pointing at my door so I get light from my own windows in my bedroom and from inside the family room.

Bun also has a water bottle and a water dish so I don’t think if clothing fell all would be lost …oh also most the time I don’t have clothing there because it is too hard to deal with when cleaning/caring for her. If you can see those are all winter clothing….those haven’t been up there for quite a few months now

It’s a basket from Target, in the bathroom section.

I like this use of space. Of course it wouldn’t work in every situation but in a well ventilated room, I think it works well. You could always place a row of grids over the top to prevent clothes falling in if need be.
