Errr….ok.  I’m not sure why, but, Pixie is not using her litter tray (it’s a new thing, so she’s learning), I put it where she goes all the time and even put some soiled litter in it…didn’t work. She loves to sit on it though or lie down on it.

Truffles (who found a new home already as of today!) had the litter tray for two days and used it almost immediately.

Are there other tricks to get bunny to use it? It’s a corner kind with a grate on top to prevent kicking the litter everywhere.

Hi Pixie Bunny! Lots of rabbits love to hang out or lounge in their litterboxes because they feel safe there. I just want to clarify that I am understanding you, is Pixie never pooing in her litterbox, outside it, to the side of it or where? That’s good you put some soiled litter in it, try a urine-soaked piece of paper towel and you might also want to add a little hay to the box if you haven’t already and you may want to situate the hay nearby because rabbits like to eat & poo at the same time.  Other enticements would include a nice sprig of mint or basil. But since your bun lounges in there all the time but is just not carrying out the “end” of the deal it may not work. Sometimes it is necessary to add more than one litterbox at first then take out one at a time when she finally decides which one to use. Some rabbits just take a little longer than others.

Also check out the BB section on litterbox training for more tips & tricks under BUNNY INFO here:

Thanks Scarlet, I’ll try your advice

Actually, she did just poop in it a few times.

Maybe she DOES know, and I’m just the stupid one here.

Bunny intelligence should enver be underestimated!

I would recommend consistently putting ANY of her poops that are outside her litterbox back into the litterbox. Also, in my opinion, it might be a little easier to littertrain her without the grate, because if the grate is on there, she might not notice all of her poops that you pile up in there You may also want to try a larger litterbox to begin with, you can buy inexpensive square cat litterboxes at Target, and then once she gets the hang of the bigger litterbox, you can put the corner litterbox back in.

it’s a bed… and buffet and love nest and safe haven and potty and… lol.

yup. buns usually love their litterboxes. you say the litterbox is a new thing but i thought she was a couple years old… what did you do for her before the litterbox? what were her habits like? like Moobunnay says, you might try either a square cat box so she can feel the litter… or at least remove the grate from the corner box. in many cases, a grate is not necessary unless you’re dealing with a serial litter digger. also, you don’t have litter or bedding anywhere else in the cage do you? it’s important that the only place you have the litter is in the litterbox or else it is too confusing.

                  Hiya PixieBunny!

Complete ditto to Scarlet Rose. My bun has been difficult with litter training too. As you can see in my avatar, he LOVES it. Hay didn’t quite do the trick, I had to put his food bowl in there too. It’s in a bowl raised an inch off the litter. The pan is large enough that I can fit the bowl, and hay on the other end, and he can lie down in. My bun didn’t just like to nibble while pooping, he likes to eat a full meal.

Good Luck with your bun, hope to hear an update about your success soon!

                    So true Beka LOL

Two litter boxes sounds like a really good suggestion. One could have just litter and one could have litter and hay; then see where she sleeps and goes potty!
