Hi everyone!  I recently got Bear, and also recently discovered that rabbits do a lot of number two.  I put the litter box in the corner he seems to poop the most in, but he uses the litter box like a bed, instead of a toilet.  Bear is eight weeks old, so I have to wait a couple months before he gets neutered.  I have been putting his poops (and urine soaked paper towels) in the litter box.  To him, all the world’s a bathroom!  I was just wondering some tips and tricks you guys learned when litter training your bun.

            Hi!

I recently moved my rabbit into a new cage (after reading about their movement needs) and gave him a new litter box. He was TERRIBLE at using it! He would always pee next to it, but never into it. After you neuter your rabbit, you will probably notice some definite changes in how much he marks his territory (pooping everywhere)

Just keep doing what you’re doing (wiping it up and placing it in the litter box. Don’t clean the litter box or the smell will be lost!) Make sure you clean the area where he pees super well, so that the smell is gone. Once a rabbit pees somewhere they are likely to do it again!

Good luck and keep up the good work!

Since Bear is still new to the environment, those could be territorial poops. Give him more time to settle in and he will probably learn that he doesn’t need to mark the whole place constantly

My only extra tip is when you’re home and supervising bun, watch for his toilet cues. And when you see he’s gonna go, pick him up and pop him in his box. I guess that will only work if your bun is ok being handled but at 8 weeks I shouldn’t imagine you’ll have any issues. This is how I litter trained my boy, watching him like a hawk from the day I got him until he successfully went in his box only. I then moved the box closer and closer to where I wanted him to go. I’ve never had a problem since this and he’s 5 now
