        Hello all,

Since I brought Fiona home I have provided her with a litter box and she has been using it well by only peeing in it and majority of poops are in it too. When we let her out to run around our room, she drops pellets (seems more frequent now that she’s been with us for over a week), and has made occasional markings on certain places on the carpet (several pellets and a healthy dose of pee!). We run her to her cage when this would happen, then cleaned the area well and place the pee-soaked paper towel in the litter box. After she peed three times in one area we added a new litter box there. She uses it well too, though she still drops poops around when exploring. Lately, as she has gotten more comfortable with me I noticed she has been marking, but really close to me, always right beside me, then runs back to her cage when she sees I make sudden movements and lays down in her cage like she satisfied! It’s really frustrating because I can generally tell when shes going to pee and have gotten better at stopping her mid-stream and putting her in her litter box or cage, but when she’s really close to me, it’s harder to tell. Is there a reason why she is marking (both with multiple poops in one spot and multiple poops accompanied by pee) right beside me? I thought that I was conveniently in an area where she has peed before but we have gotten a pet grade carpet cleaner that is supposed to remove scent, along with the fact that this time there was a blanket over the area (which she peed on ran away mid pee which went everywhere -.-) which makes me believe it’s a different reason. She is getting spayed in two weeks and I hope that will help but does anyone have any explanation for this weird behaviour?! Please let me know if I left out any info or if anything was unclear. Thanks!

It’s like a rabbit spraying to indicate owning you. Wick exclusively sprayed me for three days before he was neutered.

Haha is that so? Well that’s more positive than I was thinking! Did Wick stop immediately after being neutered? And is Wick litter trained?

I ask because I wonder if she will stop pooping out of her litter box or if she will continue to drop them around during exercise and play time. Oops, sorry, I didn’t notice it posted before I finished typing

Wick had one more spray the day after his neuter (was on the ground and my mouth was open. What a joy….), but after that it stopped completely, in addition to his circling which would precede the spraying.

Wick is litter trained. He was before and after the neuter and the compliance did get better after the neuter. I’d say a month after the neuter, he was definitely more sassy and would pee when frustrated more often, but that’s weened away now. Wick still pees on the sofa and in new locations, but that’s just him. When he’s getting comfy, he doesn’t care about the litter box and just pees where he is, haha.

Oh no! It had to go out with a bang eh?!

And I see, she has gotten kind of sassy too but hopefully after the spay it will improve. Thank you for the input!
