Uh-oh. So my bun does a few territorial poos here and there– no biggie, I clean ’em up, she doesn’t seem to mind and I don’t either as long as she keeps it in her pen.  She’s great about not doing anything out of her pen, it’s all kept in the pen parameters.

I noticed the other day she peed on the rug.  Any ideas why or what I can do about this? I cleaned it and haven’t noticed anything new, but…

my girl pees outside of her litterbox a day before she goes into mild stasis. that’s the only time it has happened (since she was first brought home), and like clockwork, the next day she’ll be a grumpy, bloated bunny. how is she eating and pooping? is her behavior normal?

I’ve never noticed anything odd about her eating or pooing habits. I’ve noticed nothing change, except an occasional urine mark. I think it might be a territorial mark, but I’m careful about letting her pen be private and when I clean I try to leave residue (to a clean extent) so she’s doesn’t feel it’s totally wiped of “her”. I also don’t use any strong smelling chemicals at all. :/

is the rug in her pen or outside? if outside, had she been out for a long time, does she have litterbox access outside of her pen? is it possible she overshot the litterbox? if it’s an isolated event, i would probably not fret about it. they are imperfect (as are we!) and it might have just been a mistake.

I agree with Beka, if it is just one isolated event she just may not have had time to get back to her litterbox – does she usually have a litterbox that is easily accessible while she is running around?

Also, did you recently have any company over or someone like a work man come over? Sometimes the smell of someone new in the house can trigger a bunny’s instinct to mark their territory. It may have even been something as small as someone that visited pet a dog before they came over and brought a new animal smell into the house.
