We littered trained Holly inside her xpen. She has been good, but lately she has picked a couple of potty spots in our living room. Unfortuently, they are both places that are not good for her.  One is by the to the outside world and the other is infront of our bedroom door. This seems to be her favorite. I put a new litter box near that door and the nut peed right in front of the box.  Now I feel like it is the battle of wills going on here. Now, when I see her heading toward our door, I quickly get her and put her either in the box or back in her x pen. Hubby feels I should keep her in the xpen a couple of days and then let her out again.

It seems like when I take her out there are more accidents than before we even tried this process. Any advice will help.

        Thanks

spay. she’s going to keep doing this, and the longer it goes, the more i fear she will be set in her ways. you really need to get that done.

Yeah, I know. I’m not holding off because I want to. We actually have a plan set.

I think you and your husband are both right. I think what you need to do is put her back in the xpen for a couple of days, and then WHEN she goes out, make sure to you have the time to watch her carefully and as soon as she starts to go pee, Say NO, or use squirt her with water, and then herd her back to her litterbox, or put her right in front of her litterbox and get her to jump in (while saying the word litterbox) Do this everytime. If she continues, then put her back in the xpen for an hour or so. This is a real pain, and in a way it is a battle of the wills, and who has time to watch their bunny every second, but in the beginning, if you have a stubborn bunny, it’s what you have to go through. But you have to claim the general territory as yours. You may even have to gradually allow more freedom by blocking off access to areas of the home with an xpen.

Good luck and keep us updated. OH, and be sure to put something great in her litterbox when she returns to it – does she like mint or rosemary, and or cut up a raisin into a few pieces, or a few carrot shreds within the hay, so that she sees her box as a great place to return to, not punishment.

                Hey thanks,

I kind of started that. Yesterday I put a papaya treat. In my mind it backfired, because I put her in there and then she found it, ate it, and hopped out. However, if I do put a treat in there, she’ll want to go in and see if there are any goodies.

She has been a really fun bunny. We have had our ups and downs, so I don’t want her to hate me.

The the water squirting idea i actually thought about earlier, but I didn’t know if it was a good idea.

                Thanks

I know how frustrating this can be. I hope you manage to make some headway on it and are able to get her spayed soon. Thinking about you.

I got lucky with this somehow. I never had to litter trained my buns outside the cage. They just dont pee/poo outside the cage. They always hop back into the cage and go potty in their litterbox.
