My rabbit is good at using his litter box when enclosed in his xpen but he goes crazy when he has free time. Is this normal? I have to constantly pick up his little poops when I let him run around my room. He is 11 months old and was neutered two weeks ago. I thought his behavior would change after getting him neutered but it hasn’t.

How do I train my rabbit to use his litter box even when he is outside of his xpen?

It takes 4-6 weeks for hormones to calm down after neutering. A lot of people see a spike in hormonal behaviors during that time because everything is leveling out and going a bit haywire. So that could definitely be part of it.

MoveDiagonally is spot on about the hormones. I suggest waiting it out for a few more weeks, limiting his free range time if needed and if he doesn’t curb this behaviour on his own, you will have to work on re-training.

I agree that it will take some more time for the hormones to settle down. Also, you might want to think about limiting his roaming space a bit more so he gets used to more space gradually. When I went from a small pen to a very large one my bun had a harder time with poops. You can still provide adequate exercise space without giving him an entire room/house until his habits improve.
