I have a seven month female holland lop who isn’t fixed yet but has an appointment on the 30th to be spayed. She pees all over the place. The second I clean it she does it again! I have to use a grated corner litter pan with we her because she loves eating the litter. But as much as I have tried everything she will not go in the box and is making everything smell horrible. If I let her run on the floor she will pee everywhere but if I put her on my bed she won’t dirty anything. She also has a problem with over producing cecals but I will add that in another part of the forum. Please help! I clean the cage twice a day with diluted white vinegar and change her litter box every other day and she still does it!

I just realized that this is also the thread for diet problems! Well the same rabbit has always over produced cecals and I hve been feeding her mana pro evaluate that is what her breeder had her on before we purchased her. I noticed when she eats mostly hay they stop but once she over eats pellets the cecals start again. It’s massive amounts too! I took her to my small animal vet and she tried benebac and it only made it worse so she said she’s probably just a nervous bun and to try to keep her on hay and give her small amounts of pellets. Should I start her on that diet? I feel so bad about it. I know once she’s a year I’m supposed to alter her pellet intake but I don’t know if I should do it so soon. She has unlimited Timothy hay and unlimited pellets she is very well hydrated also and doesn’t show any signs of being sick and has tested negative for all bacteria/diseases. I just don’t know what to do anymore!

The peeing won’t stop until she’s spayed, there’s not much you can do about it right now except keeping her more contained.

The food you’re feeding is alfalfa based, which means it’s very rich. That’s good for growing bunnies, but yours is at an age where switching to adult pellets is a good idea. Some rabbits are also just more prone to over producing cecals, so maybe she just can’t handle the rich food. Switch her to a timothy based pellet. Also, at seven months her pellets can be reduced to 1/8 – 1/4 cup a day per 6 lbs of body weight. This will encourage her to eat more hay and reduce the amount of cecals she produces.

Hazel’s advice is spot-on. Also, did the vet do a fecal test when she was there? Is she parasite-free?

I took her to the vet the day after I got her and she tested positive for coccidia and was treated for it. We had her tested again recently and she is parasite free.
