Litter training outside cage during play time

Hey guys, first off, been loving the forum over the past month or so. That’s how long my girlfriend and I have had Luna, our Holland lop doe that’s just over 4 months this old. Anyways here goes. From day one she’s been a tidy little baby, but recently after we took her to an animal expert who housed her for two days because she wasn’t eating, she’s started to have some bad habits. She used to only pee in her potty, and drop the occasional doose outside, which we were fine with. All of a sudden, she’s started peeing outside while we let her roam. (she lives in a cage in the bedroom which we leave open whenever we are home). Should I have another litter box on the outside as well? It’s confusing cause as far as I can see, she doesn’t really pee around her cage at all.

Ps:she loves to roam! She starts binkying like mad the minute I open the door. Very friendly and what not. Licks us sometimes, and even nibbles here and there, but I don’t think aggressively. But she doesn’t dare to walk on the hardwood floors. So instead I leave the rug there, where she proceeds to make me wipe pee up the entire night. Also we’re abstaining from treats til she hits 6 months.

It can be difficult to completely litter box train a rabbit who hasn’t been spayed or neutered. Since Luna is 4 months old, she is starting to enter puberty, which can make her change her habits and want to mark her territory. You probably will not have complete success with her litter box use until after she has been spayed.

Really? Wow. We went to a vet once about smt else and the guy told us that spaying her might be detrimental to her mental health because of the lack of hormones. I have no idea, literally everywhere online suggests that we spay her. In any case, she’s a little too young still. I’m from Malaysia, BTW.

Luna, I know there has been discussions about risks of spaying girl dogs too young – that it could stop their brains from developping normally. This is because estrogen has a lot to do with the development and growth of the frontal lobes, where many important things relating to personality are located – like impulse-control and social behaviors.

But if you spay your girl bun after she’s become sexually mature, she should be fine brain-wise, and I don’t think vets spay girl buns sooner than that. In dogs its sometimes done in order to prevent cancer of the mammary glands – to achieve that effect, a spay must be done before the dog’s first heat-cycle.
