So TigerLily got the peeing in the Litter box from the moment I put it in the cage! and we were really excited and proud, but she doesnt want to poop in there! She did actually poop in there all day yesterday, but it seems that this morning she forgot shes suppose to poop in there as well! I cleaned it out and she peed right away inside the box, but no POOP!

Also, she wont use the litterbox at all not even to pee when she is in the kitchen roaming, we have her cage wide open when we let her in the kitchen so she can go back in it if she is afraid or anything but she wont pee or poop in the litterbox, i set a 2nd litterbox in the kitchen by the area where she was peeing and pooping but nothing she doesnt want to use it.

I know its nly been 1 week since we started and maybe shes too young and just doesnt get it yet.

I took out the grass in the cage bc Beka had advised maybe it was confusing her a few posts ago, i think that did help a bit but now im just baffled, maybe i just im expecting her to get it too fast.

I was hoping someone had some tips

binkybunny.com/Default.aspx  <—this is the BB litterbox tips page, don't remember if i posted it before or not.

first off, spaying is going to help, but i know she is too young right now… so you’ll have to try other things.

with very young, or new, bunnies you have to start in a small space… and then slowly expand the play-area from there.  if the bunny gets it in the cage, then let her out, but close to the cage… so she can return to it to do her business.  for the longest time, my Meadow would never go potty anywhere but her cage litterbox, despite having litterboxes in other rooms.  she has her cage in the living room right?  and you are removing her completely and putting her in the kitchen?  it is also possible she feels she has to mark the new space, she might not recognize it as being part of her home yet.  try getting an xpen or building a NIC grid fence to enclose her cage.  this can give her more running space while still being close to “home”.

this is what we did with Meadow before we brought our second bunny home… she had a fence that attached to her cage.  for her rutime we would fold it to the side so she could come and go.  it was on a 5×7 foot rug to protect the carpet underneath, but if she is having accidents, you could also lay down a scrap of linoleum instead with rug on top.

yeah i need another approach. Right now she lives in our bedroom but we move her cage and she to the kitchen where we fence off the door but let her cage in the kitchen so she has access to it and the litterbox. Its not a very large kitchen, we set up a second litterbox since she kept having accidents in this one specific spot. I guess the most perplexing this is that she will pee in her litterbox and poop a tiny bit but then poop all over her cage. Shes a silly little bunny!

When you say pooping all over her cage, do you mean tons of scattered poops or is she “piling” in one place. The scattered about poops is here way to claim territory. This will get better once she is spayed and once she “feels” she has made her point and this is her home. If she’s moving back and forth she may not have a particular place that she knows as hers, and so she is just claiming everywhere she happens to be.

Does she have any hay in litterbox? Many bunnies poo while they eat, so it’s a a good idea to add hay to the box.

Take some of the poos she leaves around and put them in her box. Even when you clean, be sure to put some poos back in.

Baby bunnies are much harder to train, and as she reaches the 4 – 6 month mark, you may find it very challenging, but in time she should improve with persistence….and spaying.

i would also try and decide on a permanent location for the bunny and cage. moving the cage back and forth is only going to confuse her and make her mark more. the cage needs to be in one space, so she can mark there and then know she has a secure area. wherever you decide to have the cage, i would start bunny proofing that space.

Have you put some pee soaked litter/paper towel in the kitchen litter box? Also the one she does pee in, scoop up all the poos and put them in there-that might help Don’t change the litterbox as often as you normally would, that makes it more obvious where she should be toileting

i think i am confusing her wiht the back and forth. I want her cage in my bedroom because I spend most of my time there bedroom / office. But we have carpetting and I rent

So i dont let her loose in the bedroom bc im afraid she will chew the carpet or pee in it. Thats why I was moving her to the kicthen since it is tiled and there isnt anything she can get too.

Im going to buy the NIC Cubes next weekend when I get paid and building her a bigger play area in a corner of my bedroom I cleared out.

How do you all suggest I give her, her play time in the mean time? Just take her out of the cage and put her in the kicthen? I’m also Bunny proofing my balcony, the nights are getting cooler now and she can be outside in the balcony while I paint and i dont mind if she pees or poops there and there is nothing she can rip or chew.

I also have 2 retired Greyhounds and while so far they have been un interested in TigerLily I wont take a risk, so they all need to be separated so I cant let her roam around the house God forbid one of the dogs remembers his  her days on the track.

I just want to give her a happy life and free time she needs outside of her cage, but im so perplexed! Although this site has helped immensly Thanks to everyone who replies, Im very appreciative!
